The moves collided and as the time was on the verge of running out, a massive explosion issued forth from the moves being at a stalemate with Zoro at the epicentre.

Liam was barely able to se Jiraiya for the explosion's smoke. As he was opening his mouth to give the next order, Vivian hollowed out: "Time's up! Unfortunately, the dust from the explosion has obscured the screen, so we don't know who has won."

Everyone in the hall waited with bated breath for the smoke to clear. Shiranui was worried more about Zoro than seeing the points comparison. The smoke eventually cleared to reveal the screen.

The screen showed that Liam had a hair more points, so he was named the winner.

"I don't think we'll have a closer result than this," stated Shiranui as he saw Zoro ambling back to his trainer, panting in exhaustion, "Take a good rest, Zoro." He recalled the Zoroark.

Liam received the ribbon and it was announced that Fallabor Town had the next contest.

"That's quite a distance from here," Shiranui commented.

"Well, we have to go there anyway for a gym badge." Liam pointed out.

"Last I looked, Fallarbor Town didn't have a gym," Shiranui rebutted, "Lavaridge Town on the other hand…"

Lance had spent a lot of time in the cave fighting geodude with Lotad and grovyle. Lotad has learned bubble while In the cave, as Lance emerged with Lotad they walked out the cave. Lotad had a couple of bruises on his body from battle. They made their way to the Pokemon center to heal up, after they spotted shiranui and Liam. "Hey guys how did the contest go?" Lance asked.

Liam held up the ribbon. The lights of the center shined off the metallic part of the ribbon. He also tossed a pair of goggles to Lance, telling him they'd help with getting through the desert.

Lance caught the glasses, "nice, and desert?" Lance said questioning. "What gym are we gong to next" Lance asked putting holding the goggles.

"We're heading for the Lavaridge Gym," answered Shiranui, "According to my guide, the part of Route 111 between Routes 112 and 113 is a desert that has sandstorms raging. The alternative path to Route 113 is not much better as you're going through a cave in Mt. Chimney and both Liam and I know how hazardous volcanic caves can be."

"I believe that the desert path is shorter." Liam added.

Shiranui recalled Route 13 in Kalos. "I'm leaning towards the desert myself," Shiranui decided.
