I was thinking about an ancient being that is so old that it had to become a transcendent being that exists without a body. Rather, it is a mind that manifests itself usually through a ball of light kind of like a will o' wisp, but it can also morph its body into other shapes, and maybe even create a temporary body/vessel. Would that be fine? It wouldn't be inherently evil or good. Rather it just seeks knowledge (I mean for a mind that doesn't have a body... what else could it want other than knowledge after all) and doesn't care if it is "good" knowledge like healing or "bad" knowledge like necromancy. So, as long as that desire is satisfied, it will do whatever the hell it pleases. Sometimes its interests may align with the "heroes" and sometimes it may align with "evil".

How about, a guardian that is protecting a place he thinks is sacred and has to be ruthless in order for the "greater good"? He might think that the entire world is at stake.

Anything that isn't a harem comedy. I'd probably recommend Excel Saga. It's very dated, and it's humour is fairly 'lulrandom', but it isn't totally awful in that regards.

Technically Tenchi Muyo is "Harem" but it's not raunchy or anything.
