I think Spider-Man has been a double edged sword in the human awareness of my kin, to be quite honest. On the one hand the character is a general triumph over willful arachnophobia. On the other hand, the comic still perpetuates negative stereotypes about spiders to it's readership. Especially the stereotype that we would bite humans without provocation. Why, it's hardly the case. As if we would waste a valuable resource like venom when one of the giants wasn't actively threatening us. Why, it's preposterous, I tell you! Absolutely preposterous. I'll have you know that human doctors are no arachnologists, so they can't be expected accurately identify a bite. And furthermore in the vast majority of reported spider bites, no one actually saw the spider! It's blind prejudice, pure and simple.

Hi! I am Arachnid0. But I long to be an Arachnid Hero! To wield fang and web in pursuit of honor and glory! To slay mighty monsters! To rescue innocent lifeforms from unspeakable dangers! To... to... to not be squished! I have the most pressing need to not be squished. Nor to be scorched by unreasonable giants who shout evil things like "Kill it with fire!"

So, yeah. If I could be safe from those things and do some heroing while I'm here, that'd be great, thanks.

On the one hand the character is a general triumph over willful arachnophobia. On the other hand, the comic still perpetuates negative stereotypes about spiders to it's readership. Especially the stereotype that we would bite humans without provocation. Why, it's hardly the case. As if we would waste a valuable resource like venom when one of the giants wasn't actively threatening us. Why, it's preposterous, I tell you! Absolutely preposterous. I'll have you know that human doctors are no arachnologists, so they can't be expected accurately identify a bite. And furthermore in the vast majority of reported spider bites, no one actually saw the spider! It's blind prejudice, pure and simple.</div></div></div>
