After a very productive morning and early afternoon, Chrissy was in her room, flicking through various social media apps when the sound of Aunt Jess rummaging around in the kitchen made her blood run cold.

Oh no, she thought, jumping out of her seat and sprinting outside.

In the kitchen, Chrissy's great-aunt was setting something into the microwave. Chrissy couldn't see what it was, but Aunt Jess could not be trusted with anything even remotely related to cooking. "Aunt Jess, what are you doing?" Chrissy hollered, running over to the microwave just in time to stop her great-aunt from turning it on.

Aunt Jess blinked at Chrissy from behind her glasses. "Just making tea," she said, and Chrissy glanced inside the microwave (why Aunt Jess was trying to microwave tea leaves, Chrissy wasn't sure, but...)

Sure enough, there was a mug, presumably filled with cold water and a tea bag. And...ah.

Chrissy plucked the spoon out of the mug. "I swear to god, Aunt Jess, you're going to kill us all someday," she grumbled under her breath, putting the spoon back into the cabinet.

Aunt Jess gave her a bewildered look. "What was that, dearie? Can you speak up?"

Chrissy let out a long-suffering sigh. "Nothing, Aunt Jess. Nothing at all."

Later that afternoon, Chrissy and her great-aunt piled into her rental car and headed off towards the festival. Normally, Chrissy would have avoided that kind of event-the thought of all that corny festival stuff made her want to puke-but the mayor had invited Astrid Storm, also known as Sylvia Bertoose (the poor girl had a very unfortunate name, in Chrissy's opinion. It was no wonder she took on a stage name), and well...Chrissy went where the celebs were, is all she could say.

Chrissy was pretty up-to-date on this Astrid girl; she still looked like a pastel goth scene girl from 2008 who used 'rawr' and 'XD' and ':3' unironically. Gross. Didn't these people know that Avril Lavigne racoon eyes were so ten years ago???? Her music was also pretty annoying, in Chrissy's opinion; she'd had enough of white boy frat party music after one year of college, thank you very much.

But anyway, maybe she'd be able to find something she could turn into a story. Money didn't grow on trees, after all.

Chrissy pulled into the parking lot designated for the festival, muttering profanities under her breath at the complete lack of open spots. "You'd think that there wouldn't be anywhere with worse parking than L.A. Guess you'd be wrong," she grumbled to herself, deciding that she didn't give enough fucks to drive around the city like a headless chicken for an open spot and opting to squeeze the car into a tiny sliver of space between another car and the curb. Okay, so it wasn't an actual designated spot, but it was, uh, probably semi-legal? Right?

"C'mon, Aunt Jess, let's go," Chrissy said, stepping out into the blazing sunlight. She squinted, letting her eyes adjust to the light before giving herself a quick once-over with a compact mirror. Everything looked fine, from her high ponytail to her glossy, cherry-pink eyeshadow (which matched her sparkly pink platform heels).

Once they were inside the festival, Chrissy left Aunt Jess with some of her friends from Sunday night bingo or whatever and took one of the flyers advertising Astrid Storm's performance. Hmm, so it won't be for a little while. Wonder what she's up to right now?

Chrissy glanced at the time. Probably too early for her to be backstage already. Which leaves the tourbus, I guess?

Shrugging, Chrissy headed in the general direction that she thought the tourbus would be in. Back to the parking lot, I guess. Damn.

It was quite busy for the performance for the famous singer Astrid Storm... they were trying to get everything set up. Meanwhile, in the tourbus, there was a celebration of the singer's own coming up... in a white hummer. As it approached; a group of about four people including Johnny, Gabriela, Jake and Jaska Valos stepped out and walked up to the door where there was a burly bouncer keeping watch with his arms crossed. The chubby bastard was shorter than Johnny! Speaking of which Johnny gave him a cocky smile as he approached, and kept his hands on his pockets as the bouncer said.

"Sorry, Astrid said no visitors, no autographs," The bouncer said.

"Well, 'Astrid' invited us in for a quick visit," Johnny tilted his head as he replied.

"I said no, she don't want no visitors,," Was the only response from the bouncer, "Now ge-"

"PATRICK!" Astrid shouts could be heard from inside the bus, and Patrick looked back to see Astrid's face pressed against the glass. "FUCK OFF ALREADY! THEY'RE COOL!"

Patrick grumbled as he stepped to the side and Johnny couldn't help but send a toothy grin his way that was more powerful than any middle finger. Fucker better know his place! Either way Johnny stepped past him and opened up the door to the tour bus and stepped inside. And the first sight was a sight he hadn't seen in years; his sister. You see, after their time in the Academy Sylvia managed to convince Gabe and Jake to help her become a star! All while Johnny tried to become the next Vito Corleone! Well, better luck next time. His sister was wearing boxers and a t-shirt with her hair done and straight. She was sitting on the couch with her legs crossed and playing on her phone.

"Sylvia! Long time no see!" Johnny said as he put his arms out for a hug.

"Sup motherfucker," Sylvia said as she didn't even lift her head up from her phone. "Ya' got any weed?"

"Love you too, sister..." Johnny groaned as he looked off to the side. "Yeah, we smoked it all before we got here."

"The fuck?!" Sylvia shouted. "How could you do this to meeeeeee?" She asked.

"Jaska's afraid of heights," Johnny said, and Jaska confirmed with a nod. "And we had to calm his nerves somehow!"

"Besides," Gabe injected, "You're about to perform, you need a clear head."

"That's why I need it."

"How the hell did you end up performing in this dump anyway?" Johnny asked as he looked around. "Last time I checked the mayor told us never to return here."

"And last I checked," Sylvia started off, mocking her brother, "We don't listen to chucklefucks." She cracked a grin.

Sylvia shrugged as she leaned back in the couch, "Besides, I go where the music takes me - mayor asks for a famous singer to come and then I answer it. Call it fate."

"Well, I at the very least, hope fates gets us some good weed!" Johnny said as he took a seat down next to Sylvia.

While they were talking, the most silent of the group; Jaska Valos, had his ears wide open. He didn't have much to say, but his ears perked up when he heard a foreign sound outside; separate from Patrick, right behind him. It sounded like someone walking up and he knew what to do. He leaned forward and whispered to the group, "There's someone outside."

"Oh shit, another pervert!" Sylvia damn near shouted. "Johnny, go out there and-" She was cut off when Johnny put fingers up to her lips.

"Shush, stupid," Johnny silenced his sister. "They're gonna get spooked and do something stupid."

His instincts quickly kicked in and he took control of the situation. This wasn't the first time somebody set their eyes on the Valos family, but thanks to Johnny he made sure every attempt was either a complete failure, or their last. The latter was preferable given how it simply ties up any loose ends. But, even if it was just some drunk asshole off wandering he wanted to make sure, because safe than sorry. Especially when there's three of his siblings nearby. Call it paranoia, but there was a saying that Johnny liked...

... You're only paranoid when you're wrong.

"Keep talkin', we don't want them to get suspicious," Johnny quietly said, "I'm gonna snuff this mothafucka out." He slowly got up and walked out the door.

"Okay motherfucker," Sylvia tried to force cheer to try not to sound creeped out right now, "So about that time I leaked my nudes by accident...

Then they proceeded to talk as Johnny reached into his coat and pulled out his revolver that he had hidden in his suit. The metal object felt heavy in his hands, and he kept it in his hands as he gave it a brief twirl before he quickly walked around the tourbus. He hoped that he didn't tip them off; what he wanted to do was catch them red handed. A lot of people will start talking when they're looking down the barrell of a pistol. Eventually he turned the corner and caught their little pervert red-handed! And it was actually quite a surprise.. instead of some shithead sent from the mafia or somebody getting ready to become very intimate with a bottle of lotion, it was some cute little Asian thing in all pink. Honestly, the girl needs to, you know, vary her colors - because that's basic fashion - but everything else about her was just so alluring. Shit, he had to make a good first impression... which a instument of instant death didn't make. And in a display of his quick hands he hid it in the back of his waistband as he gave her a warming smile.

"Oh, hey there," He said smoothly, "Whatcha' doin' snooping around this poor girl's tourbus? Wanted an autograph? Heh."

Chrissy was trying to figure out how the hell her five-foot-two ass (okay, five-seven with her heels, but still) was going to get a peek into the tourbus through one of the windows high up on the sides of the bus, when some dumb brick meathead-looking guy came out from the side. At first, she thought he was security, given the fact that he was probably five times as big as she was and wearing a suit, but then he opened his mouth.

Johnny Valos. AKA the playboy son of one Jason Valos, a business tycoon who'd first risen to prominence through...questionable means. His son had gotten himself mixed up with the wrong people in New Orleans, was the last Chrissy had heard of him. He was no A-lister, nor was he Astrid Storm, but Chrissy would take what she could get.

When he began to talk, Chrissy resisted the urge to roll her eyes, not particularly impressed by the guy in general (how do you get as rich as the Valos do and still fuck up your life? That would always be a mystery to her), instead plastering the sweetest smile she could muster onto her face. "As a matter of fact, yeah. An autograph would be pretty nice."

Subtle, Chrissy was not. Oh, well. It wasn't like she was lying-there were people her contacts knew, back in L.A., who'd pay a month's worth of rent for Astrid's autograph.

Reaching into the mini pocket of his vest, Johnny produced a pen, "Where would you like me to sign?" He jokingly (well, half jokingly) asked.

Chrissy was a bit incredulous-just how big was the size of Johnny's ego? What was he compensating for, huh?-before shrugging and producing a pad of sticky notes. "Here's good. While you're at it, would you mind getting Astrid Storm? I'm a big fan, and getting her autograph too would be super nice," she said, keeping the smile plastered to her face.

Johnny's power worked amazingly in situations like this. While he seldomly used it in favor of pure skill baby, he found it useful for reading people.... in situations like this. Her aura was more of an annoyed, disguisted, color and Johnny could feel the power radiating off of it. He had a hunch that her insistence to meet with 'Astrid Storm' wasn't because she's "a big fan". Johnny still kept that cocky grin on his face as he signed down on the notepad:

He gave it back to her before saying, "Make sure you keep that somewhere safe, it's real valuable now." Before giving her a wink. Now that he knows a tad bit about how she's not really digging him... das cool. Not a lot of chicks dug him at first but once he got 'im in bed they were screaming his name! Still, he was hesitant about bringing Sylvia out to meet Pinkie Pie here, she might try to John Lennon her. "As for Astrid, she's busy getting dressed for the performance and you don't want to bother her now - her big show's gonna be in a few!" Maybe she'd get the hint.., maybe not, but Johnny was judging her reaction first.

Chrissy suppressed a long-suffering sigh and took the autograph from him. "Yep. Definitely. Thanks."

When Johnny mentioned that Astrid wasn't to be bothered, Chrissy frowned, slightly. Well, that was to be expected. "Aw, really? D'you think I could just say hi, then? It'll only take two seconds," Chrissy replied, crossing her fingers behind her back. Even if she could only get a quick peek into the tour bus, Chrissy was sure she could make a story out of it....and if not, well, she could always write something about how Astrid and Johnny were secretly hooking up with each other, or whatever. It honestly wasn't that implausible, now that she thought about it-Johnny seemed like the kind of guy who tried to flirt with anything that moved, and Astrid wasn't exactly, uh, conservative, either, what with those nudes of her that leaked a little while back.

"So? How about it? Pretty please with a cherry on top?"

"Well..." So it seems that Pretty in Pink here was persistent. Well so was Johnny. If she wasn't going to take the hints - well, Johnny had to take drastic measures then. "Well, I'm pretty close to Astrid, so I could get you that autograph and more - hell, I could get her to spit in your mouth if you'd like!" Johnny chuckled at his own joke as he got closer to the mystery girl, as he continued, "But, for me to do something for you, you gotta do something for me... If you catch my drift?" It was a win-win for Johnny; she'll either slap him and walk away or he'll be eating Chinese tonight!

And Johnny loves Asian food.

Chrissy crossed her arms, giving Johnny a skeptical look. Is he implying what I think he's implying? she wondered to herself, incredulously. God. That's gross.

"Be more specific," Chrissy answered coolly, praying for a juicy direct quote to use in her next column, if nothing else. Either way, this was...a potential story.

Seems like the number one fan wasn't too big on the whole subtle interference thing... but Johnny noticed a change in her emotions. It was more of an intrigue, and curiousity. That made Johnny a tad bit curious, but he went along with it. "Airhead, you know exactly what I'm talking about - or maybe you ain't hear about what the lengths these so-called "Numbah-one fans" go to to get an autograph, baby!"

Chrissy couldn't believe that this guy was for real, but...

"Okay. So you're saying that you, Jonathan Valos, want to have sex with me, in exchange for Astrid Storm's autograph. Am I correct?"

"I mean a handjob would suffice but yeah."

Perfect. "Great. Nice talking to you, Mr. Valos." Chrissy tilted her head to the side, considering him. She decided to take the risk of Johnny knowing what line of business she was actually in (hint: it had very little to do with fangirling), and gave him a smug smile. "So would you rather have me print something about the son of the mighty Jason Valos asking for a handjob in exchange for an autograph, or will you let me talk to Astrid myself?"

Either way, I can spin something out of both things, she mused to herself. What should I title it? Something like, 'Son of Jason Valos asks for sexual favors in exchange for an autograph'? Nah, that's too many words. I'll come up with something later. Maybe I'll throw in something about an 'underage fan'? Because let's face it, I look twelve. Might as well take advantage of it

Johnny shrugged as he observed the girl's attitude change to smugness. Unwarrented smugness. This dumb bitch thinks she got the great Johnny Valos by a rope? Bitch please! Ain't no strings on Johnny Valos! She's going to leave here disappointed, with what's of her ego in pieces as she runs off! He grinned.

"I meean," Johnny flatly said, "I got all sorts of shit on the newpapers - socliting some broad that was called a dyke a few too many times will be the least of my concerns, baby!"

Though, after thinking about it - if he was going to be spending some time here; he'd rather not have his face on the papers, or whatever the hell this bitch was threatening. Because he has a looooong list of people he pissed off, and a few of them are willing to go the distance to get even. So, he knew that Pretty in Pink wasn't going to bite; so what the fuck was she good for?

"So, either you start tuggin' or you get your Pretty in Pink ass outta here - or I'm busting a cap in it."

Chrissy shrugged nonchalantly. It was not an ideal response, but she'd been through this before (unsurprisingly, she and her colleagues got a ton of bullshit, being in the line of work that they were in)...and that was an excellent direct quote. Oooh, maybe she could call this an exclusive. There weren't any other reporters around, after all, so for all intents and purposes, it technically was an exclusive. That's how it works, right? Right.

"Alright. Cool. See ya around. And you know, next time you try to get laid, maybe be less of an asshole about it?" she gave him an amused grin. "Can't wait to see Astrid on-stage. Tell her I said hi."

"Whatever, bitch." Johnny answered.

Chrissy shrugged one more time, spun on her sparkly five-inch heels, and headed in the direction she'd come in, whipping out her phone and quickly noting down what Johnny had said. Lemme see. Oooh, 'a handjob would suffice' was pretty good. Damn, I deserve a raise. Andrew doesn't pay me enough for the stuff I dig up.

Well that was weird.

Johnny merely shrugged and the window opened and Sylvia poked her head out of it, "Who the fuck was that?" She asked.

"I don't know, some weirdo, asked to meet you, threatened me with fame, baby! But I got rid of her."

"She was probably another super fan - wait, did you ask her if she had any weed?!" Sylvia damn near shouted to the heavens.

"Sylvia, keep it down!" Gabe piped in, looking around at all the people nearby.

"No, I didn't ask her that," Johnny shook his head.

"Why not?" Sylvia asked, "I woulda; totally let her in if she shared some. Woulda; signed her titty, too."

Johnny sighed.

"... You're a mess."

Like many priests and priestesses of Sanzol, Malzi was taken from a crowded orphanage and given a chance to make her life mean something. A chance to serve a divine purpose, a higher power. And Malzi will forever be grateful for the Supreme Priestess who chose her to serve.

From the moment she stepped foot into the temple of the sun, the temple of Sanzol, Malzi was told that she would not be allowed the luxury of worldly attachments. She was taught that she had no family, except for her fellow priests and priestesses. She was taught that she would take no lovers, bear no children, for those were mere distractions from the higher power she had been chosen to serve. And Malzi wholeheartedly threw herself into her studies and worship of Sanzol. For the greater part of her childhood, Malzi, for all intents and purposes, belonged to Sanzol.

And for the most part, Malzi was....okay with it. Why would she not be? It was the life that she was meant for. Or that's what she thought, anyway.

But the thing was, she had a friend. Her name was...her name was...

Azaya. Aza, for short. Yes, that was her name.

Malzi had been commanded to forget her name. And for years, she thought that she did. Sanzol is not a goddess who will accept anything less than the utmost devotion from her followers. Sanzol is not a forgiving goddess. So Malzi tried to forget, and she always thinks she's forgotten until it's the middle of the night, when Sanzol cannot see her, and she dreams of Aza instead of her goddess.

What she and Aza had was the love that friendship brings, in its purest form. Aza was nine years older than Malzi, and already a full priestess when the Supreme Priestess learned of her crimes. Her "crimes". At the time, Malzi had wondered how believing in kindness and compassion was a "crime", but now-now she doesn't think about it, doesn't think about Aza, doesn't want to remember. Can't let herself remember, otherwise Sanzol will be displeased.

But how does she simply forget the person who taught her the first prayers that had ever left her lips, or the person who taught her how to throw a spear and how to build the ceremonial fire; the only person who showed her something akin to kindness when she first arrived at the temple, straight out of an orphanage?

Because Malzi knows, deep down, that the only crime that Aza was guilty of was kindness. They all said that Aza had too soft of a heart to be a priestess, but Malzi knows that this selflessness of hers was what precisely what made her perfect for it. Aza, Malzi knew, was capable of walking into Sanzol's scorching rays without so much as a hesitation, because she believed so ardently in Sanzol's kindness, her benevolence. Because despite it all, Aza could see the good in everyone, even their bloodthirsty goddess of war.

"You forget that she is the sun, too, my friend," she would say to Malzi, when Malzi asked how Aza could trust Sanzol that easily. "And why else would the sun be in the sky, if not for Sanzol? She brings the light."

Was Aza too naive, too soft-hearted, too kind to be a priestess? Goddess above, Malzi doesn't know. She doesn't know.

In any case, Aza was exposed as belonging to the remnants of the revolutionary movement that killed the empress, many years ago, and when she was tried, her less-than-orthodox views were made clear. Aza was executed. And even thinking about the execution makes something raw and jagged within Malzi hurt, because she knew that Aza would have accepted her death, had it been on the steps of one of Sanzol's golden temples. She would have been content to go, if it meant that her blood would be spilled in the name of Sanzol. Instead, she was sentenced to die alone, in the darkness.

Malzi doesn't know what Aza felt, in those final days. All Malzi knows is that she cried and fought, kicking and screaming, when they wouldn't let her see her friend one last time. All she knows is what everyone else says-that Aza was a traitor, that she was not faithful to Sanzol, that she would have killed the emperor, given half the chance, and that nothing made any sense anymore. Everything that they said about Aza was wrong, wrong, wrong, but who would listen to a thirteen-year-old initiate, besides Aza? And Aza was dead.

For her open rebellion, Malzi was forced to go through a year of "re-education". She doesn't remember much of it, except the complete, total darkness. They forced her to live without light for a year, told her to "reflect" and "meditate" and to "reach out" for Sanzol...and most importantly, they told her to forget about Aza, about the hearsay she preached. It wasn't a pleasant time. Malzi doesn't like to remember it.

But she came out of that year more devoted than she ever had been. After a year without light, without sunshine, Malzi knew with an utmost certainty that nothing on this earth mattered, save for appeasing Sanzol and staying the eternal night.

And so when Malzi performed her first blood sacrifice, when she was formally initiated as a priestess, it seemed like her faith burned more brightly than Sanzol herself. And when she went into battle for the first time, under Sanzol's blazing rays, the smell of blood and death all around her had seemed like the most glorious form of prayer. In that moment, there was nothing holier than the blood of the dead enemy, spilled in the name of her goddess.

For ten years, Malzi believed that she would be content to be nothing more than an unquestioning follower of Sanzol. She fought and killed and prayed, following the lead of the higher-ranking priests and priestesses without so much as a second thought. Eventually, her devotion was awarded with a higher rank, and Malzi thought that she had forgotten Aza entirely.

And then....and then, the leader of a small band of revolutionaries from one of the border provinces was captured. He was brought to the capital, to be offered as the ultimate sacrifice to Sanzol. Malzi and two other priestesses were charged with guarding him, and throughout the entire time, he said nothing murmured prayers. Light-bringer, life-giver, grant me strength.

Light-bringer. Life-giver. The words brought back memories of prayer and meditation with the woman she had been told to forget, and Malzi's world fell apart all over again.

She'd spoken to the man, in private. He was at least fifty, haggard and exhausted, but there had been a simple peace in his eyes that would haunt Malzi's dreams.

"Do you know who Azaya is," Malzi had demanded, more of an order than a question, and the man had simply smiled serenely at her.

"If you know of Azaya, then there is hope for you yet, little one," he'd answered, and that was that.

Malzi had desperately wanted to know more. And through the next two or three months, she wavered. Back and forth, round and round in circles. Would she try to learn about the revolutionaries Aza had been a part of? Or would she remain loyal to Sanzol? Knowledge and answers, or Sanzol? Aza? Or Sanzol?

In any case, Malzi wasn't given the chance to decide. After an attack on the Selva region of Delselva went awry, she was sent along with the next hunting expedition in order to make sure that everything went smoothly. And there in the jungles of the island to the south, in the depths of what Malzi imagined to be hell on earth, Malzi thought that she experienced true fear for the first time.

She'd felt tiny, alone, helpless. Suffocating in the humid air, beneath the thick canopy of leaves that blocked out Sanzol. And then the jungle had attacked, and Malzi told the others to run while she bought them time to get away.

Malzi had expected to die in the open battlefield, under the unforgiving heat of Sanzol's breath, the air filled with the smell of blood and the screams of the dead and the dying. A glorious death, with Sanzol's glare beating down on her, embracing her. Instead, the only screams she heard were her own, drowned out by the cries and caws of all the strange, deadly animals around her, and the only thing she could smell was the hunger that flashed between those powerful jaws, and worst of all, Sanzol was far away, so far away, beyond the impossibly tall trees and their lush canopies. No, Malzi had expected to die under Sanzol's light, but instead she would die in the emerald-speckled darkness.

But somehow, in some way, she had survived. The girl who had almost killed her and then nursed her back to health was scarcely three years younger than she was, but Malzi thought that they were as different as night and day. —Mal grew up in Los Angeles, on the edge of Chinatown. Her father, Daniel Liu, owned a Chinese restaurant with her mother, up until the two of them got divorced
—Mal's father got re-married to a woman named Rosa, a year after the divorce. Rosa's son, Miguel, had been Mal's best friend since they were in kindergarten
—Mal grew up speaking Mandarin Chinese, as well as Spanish (once Rosa became part of her family)
—Mal had always known, somehow, that she was into both girls and guys. She thinks that she leans way more towards girls, though
—As a child, Mal fell in love with rap and hip-hop, and experimented with it in middle and high school, though she was always too afraid to admit it to anyone. —It was her best friend and step-brother, Miguel, who snapped Mal out of it. He told her to get a grip and write about something else, if Marina and the dreams were driving her crazy
—Mal took his advice. She began dedicating her time to rap and hip-hop instead of always moping around and remembering Marina, and Mal thinks that it was her fusion of English and Chinese, of Beijing opera and trap music, that finally made people notice her. And as she threw herself into her celebration of her heritage, the dreams began to fade away.

Was never really into white rabbit candies (she thinks they're way too sweet), when her parents/other Asian parents get on her case for not eating meat (like okay, she can understand where they're coming from, given the standard of living in the countries they grew up in, but also....she's perfectly capable of getting enough protein without eating meat, thanks), climate change deniers, traditional Chinese characters are a PAIN, when stupid frat boys get all snarky about "girly" alcoholic drinks (those "girly" drinks have more alcohol in them than your shitty beer and probably taste 100x better, kthx), hates the trend of rap music having lyrics that are.....quite problematic????? Especially when it comes to gender roles/stereotypes????, NYC weather (it's way too cold all the damn time), the fact that some people think she's not a "real" rapper just because she's 1) Asian and 2) a girl, super religious folks who think that the LGBTQA+ community is "sinful" or whatever, when book characters are white-washed in the movies based on the books, ya girl CANNOT do horror movies (which is quite unfortunate, because Angie finds them more hilarious than scary and will always make Mal watch them with her. Ever since she became a vampire, Angie has found it overwhelmingly difficult to step outside into the sun without feeling like she was dying, so she has adopted the tried-and-true methods of Asian women on blazing summer days-long sleeves and long pants and hats at all times, layers, 𝘱𝘭𝘶𝘴 an umbrella to block the sun out, wherever she goes. She figures that she doesn't look that out of place in a city like New York-there are definitely tons of Asian international students, so most people probably just assume she's one of them. With her pink hair and the (fake) round glasses she sometimes wears, Angie looks very FOB. She blends right in.-|

|-Since she’s so sensitive to garlic, she’ll also wear a face mask that covers her nose and mouth while she’s out and about, too (which also adds to the FOB-y look). In addition, she stocks her purse with sunscreen and carries an epipen-okay, so she's not allergic in the typical sense of the word, but the epipen works, so whatever. Don't ask her how; a scientist, Angie is not.-|

|-Angie was born in San Diego, to an American-born Chinese mother and a Korean father. As the youngest out of four siblings, Angie was constantly competing with three other girls for the attention of her parents, teachers, neighbors...the list goes on. Being the attention-hog that Angie is, she had an unfortunate habit of trying to steal the limelight, no matter what, which didn't exactly make her popular among her peers. -|

|-From a young age, Angie had a keen interest in singing and dancing, and as a child, she was in and out of all sorts of choirs and dance studios and the like. She seemed to thrive on the attention, and she *was* quite talented. Angie fell in love with the sparkly energy of K-Pop as a young girl, and when she was sixteen, she participated in SM Entertainment's Los Angeles global auditions. -|

|-Truth be told, SM Entertainment was originally going to cast a different girl, but her father had always encouraged Angie to start taking music seriously, and he saw this audition as her big break. Angie's father hit up some of his friends in Korea, a number of whom had gone on to become prominent figures in industries like telecommunications, electronics, and entertainment, and was able to pull some strings in his daughter's favor. And so, in the end, Angie was selected to be an idol trainee for SM Entertainment. -|

|-Angie moved to Seoul and went through a year and half of idol training. There were...*problems*, right from the start; Angie is and has always been *quite* stubborn, and she didn't really like being told what to do. However, at that point, she was willing to put up with the bossy voice coaches and dance instructors, if it meant that she'd be able to become a K-Pop star.-|

|-In 2009, Angie debuted as a member of the girl group 1V13 DESIRE. The other five girls in the group immediately took a disliking to her, because 1) Angie's, quite frankly, a bit of a bitch, and 2) they thought that one of the native South Korean trainees should have been chosen, but the execs went with Angie because she was American (diaspora Koreans do happen to fill a special niche within the K-Pop industry; they are usually added into idol groups to act as cultural intermediaries for international marketing, among other things). -|

|-To make matters worse, rumors of her father's involvement in getting Angie into 1V13 DESIRE quickly spread after Angie debuted. Out of everything that people would say about her, that was probably what hurt the most-that she was just a spoiled bratty American who'd only made it this far thanks to her father, with no talent whatsoever.-|

|-1V13 DESIRE as a group got off to a rocky start; in that era, there were already plenty of popular girl groups, like SNSD/Girls' Generation and f(x). However, 1V13 DESIRE slowly gained popularity, and Angie *finally* felt like she was about to make it big. -|

|-About one month before the 1V13 DESIRE's biggest performance yet, Angie got into a *huge* fight with both her fellow girl group members and a couple of SM's execs-Angie wanted start writing her own lyrics and making her own choreography, instead of just spitting out the lyrics that the company came up for them or dancing to the beat that the company forced them to. The other members of 1V13 DESIRE interpreted that as an attempt to steal the spotlight, while the company execs were not particularly pleased, either, and proceeded to lecture her. Yada yada, American individualism, yada yada, can't just do whatever you want, yada yada yada yada yada. Angie wasn't truly upset until one of the other girls made a snide remark about how she was just "daddy's little rich girl", and then something inside her *snapped*. She stormed out of the studio, called her cousin, and proceeded to get black-out drunk at a nightclub. -|

|-Bad move. Long story short, Angie was turned into a vampire, spent the next week vomiting (because you know that the change ain't easy), and when she next left the house, she felt like she was going to spontaneously combust from the heat of the sun, all thanks to some stupid drunk *asshole* at the Seoul nightclub. Thanks to that douchebag, Angie pukes her guts out every time she comes within like, three meters of garlic. It's quite frustrating, to say the least. -|

|-1V13 DESIRE'S performance was pushed back a couple months when Angie was hospitalized because she just *wouldn't stop throwing up*. After trying to consume actual food (and lowkey dying from the cramps and nausea 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 gave her), Angie finally figured out she was a vampire when the smell of donated blood at the hospital started making her drool. -|

|-It seemed like the situation couldn't get any worse, but since God just hates Angie, apparently, it got *a lot* worse. After recovering from her transformation into a vampire, Angie went back to practices and rehearsals, and finally, *finally*, the date of 1V13 DESIRE's concert rolled around. -|

|-...and Angie doesn't like remembering that performance, at all. Some *fucker* in the front row must have had, I dunno, straight-up raw cloves of garlic or something for breakfast, because they were scarcely one song in when Angie's digestive system decided to lose its shit. Angie hurled all over the crowd in the front row, à la Aubrey from *Pitch Perfect*, and, well...bye-bye her career. SM Entertainment decided that she was more trouble than she was worth and told her to pack her bags. Angie left Korea and headed to New York City, cursing the asshole who turned her in the first place. -|

|-In NYC, Angie crashed at her uncle's place for a while. She tried her best to adjust to her life as a vampire, and her parents aren't really aware of what's happened; they think she has some kind of disease or cancer or something. Whatever. Angie's father came clean to her about how he'd secretly helped her get a spot with SM Entertainment in the first place. Again: whatever. For a year or so, Angie was just so, *so* over the whole music industry, and spent her time moping around and being appropriately extra and brooding and over-dramatic, given her current state of existence as a vampire. -|

|-Angie decided to give music another shot when she moved out of her uncle's place to room with her cousin, who's a Lambdas bro at NYU...mostly because she needed money to help him and his roommates pay rent, but that's just schematics. The important part is that she tried to get signed with a smaller record label, based in NYC, which didn't work out, because on the day she was supposed to go in and meet with them for the first time, some annoying piece of shit motherfucker in her apartment building decided to bake garlic bread, and she ended up puking her guts out (for the twentieth time in the last month!) and being pretty much bed-ridden for the next few weeks. After that incident, Angie got herself an epipen to deal with that bullshit. -|

|-Around a year after she moved back to America, she heard about Dorian Records from one of her supernatural friends-a drug dealer that her cousin hooked her up with who runs an Asian cafe and bakery in Chinatown, who looks like a total ABG (Asian Baby Girl) but is probably a 10,000-year-old demoness, or whatever. Her dealer catered to the supernatural community, though she also sold weed and probably crystal meth and crack cocaine to college students (especially the ones at Columbia Law. All of them are snorting crack and doing LSD come finals season). In any case, on one of her runs to pick up both some blood and some boba, Angie's dealer casually mentioned Dorian Records, and Angie decided to check it out. -|

|-Angie thought that Dorian Records seemed pretty dope when she learned that they catered to supernatural needs (such as her *crazy* sensitivity to garlic). She's been with Dorian Records for almost four years, now, and she still thinks it's pretty dope-they've given her the freedom to develop her own musical style (unlike *cough cough* SM Entertainment), and it's half Kpop-esque electro synth-pop, half hip hop, all glitter. And and *and*, she's also met a girl that is 1) SUPER hot, 2) laughs at her jokes, and 3) probably the love of her life. Angie's fallen head-over-heels. -|

|- So, all in all, Angie has no complaints about Dorian Records. She's in love, and she finally has a chance to prove to the world (and those fuckers at SM Entertainment) that she's more than just a dumb rich American. It's aight. -|

If you think she's a bitch, Angie expects you to have the balls to tell her directly), when people tell her she needs to swear less, when people feel like they can tell her what to do in general, shitty airplane food, the fact that she's SO sensitive to sun/garlic but isn't sparkly like Edward Cullen-|

|-𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰
𝓥𝓪𝓶𝓹𝓲𝓻𝓮𝓼, or at least the type of vampire Angie is (she's pretty sure there are different kinds of vampires, right? Because otherwise what's the goddamn explanation for her complete lack of glamorous sexiness and her really annoying and overly excessive reactions to garlic and sunlight, huh???) are sensitive to the sun-they won't burst into flames, but being out in the sun for even a few minutes is hella painful-and don't usually do so hot with garlic, either. Like other vampires, they depend on blood to survive (though Angie's heard of "vegan" vampires from her dealer. According to her, they're all rich, white, and liberal arts majors. Go figure), though they don't seem to exhibit any particular sensitivity to crosses, churches, holy water, etc. They don't seem to get awesome supernatural powers, either, besides being stuck at the age they were turned at forever, immortality, and great night vision. Angie's dealer says that she'll probably get superstrength and/or speed as she gets older, but so far, Angie thinks that this whole 'being a vampire' thing sucks ass. -|

|-Angie has begun thinking of herself as an "atheist vampire", because religious stuff has absolutely no effect on her. She could take a shower in holy water and be completely fine...just don't wave garlic in her face though, please and thank you.-|

|- Angie has no idea who it was who turned her-again, it was a nightclub in Seoul on a hot Saturday night, and everyone was completely wasted-but whoever it was is a huge douche, is all she knows. In fact, she barely has any recollection of that night at all, because she was frickin' plastered. She assumes that the vampire bit her on the neck, or something. Some of the supernaturals she knows say that making new vampires involves an exchanging of blood from both parties, as well as an infusion of the venom coating the vampire's fangs into the human's bloodstream. Angie doesn't want to do anything except try to live her life. She doesn't give a single damn about vampire politics; the royal families can suck her (metaphorical) dick, for all she cares. She just wants to be left alone to do her own thing-and for the most part, she is. She's not really into bickering about vampire politics with 1000-year-old Purebloods who could rip her apart with their bare hands just for the lulz, you know?

🌸𝓢𝓴𝓲𝓵𝓵𝓼:

She's been told that she's funny before, which has to count for something; she may not be the easiest person to work with but she has talent, okay? Those Korean entertainment companies know their shit; very versatile voice (she's done everything from indie to rap, though she prefers mainstream dance-y pop music with a bit of an edge in the form of 1-2 rapped verses); quick memory (memorizing those dance sequences that Korean entertainment company choreographers come up with isn't the easiest thing in the world); can write entire albums in one sitting, if she's in the "zone"; speaks English and Korean fluently, though her Chinese is...less than stellar?; packing so many meme/vine references into a single sentence that you have no idea what the hell just came out of her mouth; running in high heels of any sort (and outrunning you while she's at it)

🌸𝓕𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓼:

Angie fucking hates spiders and creepy-crawlies of any sort; she's more afraid of stupid horror movie jump-scares than she will ever admit; really doesn't feel like dealing with some cranky old Purebloods getting on her case for something stupid; isn't too keen on the confrontation that will inevitably come when her parents find out that she's kinda sorta a vampire now?

🌸𝓟𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂:

Well, to be perfectly frank, Angie is...kind of a bitch, and used to be a huge attention whore (she's mellowed out a bit after being turned into a vampire, but she's still a bit problematic). Angie's perfectly aware of this, but she also like, doesn't care. With her sarcastic and irreverent sense of humor, Angie is flippant and frivolous, always brushing other peoples' concerns and criticisms off with a breezy "eat a dick" (or something along those lines). Angie is also hellaciously vain, if her fixation on her pink hair is any indication.

Although she really isn't the nicest person around, Angie's outgoing nature and spunky spontaneity (paired with a healthy dose of snarkiness) has still made her a couple of friends (and said friends are usually just as thick-skinned as Angie can be). She's a bit too cocky for her own good, and she can be blunt to the point of being cruel. Angie has no sense of tact nor subtlety whatsoever, and you can bet those knock-off Prada boots that she means something when she says it. Angie's not afraid of confronting someone head-on, and she has absolutely no patience for pussies who would rather subtweet her than talk trash to her face.

Flighty and fickle, Angie's not always very good about texting back or making plans. She's extremely petty and makes way too many smart remarks for her own good, and has quite the temper on her (Angie is both easily excited and easily angered). However, she's also quick to forgive (if not necessarily to forget), and she can be surprisingly perceptive and observant sometimes. Angie's a bit of a hypocrite in that she's not afraid to call out stupid bullshit when she sees it, but she's also very much full of bullshit herself, a fact that she will freely admit to. And although she doesn't seem to take anything seriously, Angie can and will hold a grudge until the end of time if you piss her off enough.

Finally, some people can find her downright annoying, which Angie is also perfectly fine with. She's quite self-aware, despite what one may think after interacting with her, and she's definitely not as clueless or oblivious as some people think she is-it's just a matter of if she cares enough to confront somebody about something. And, spoiler alert: nine times out of ten, she doesn't.

🌸𝓑𝓲𝓸𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓹𝓱𝔂:

Angie was born in San Diego, to an American-born Chinese mother and a Korean father. As the youngest out of four siblings, Angie was constantly competing with three other girls for the attention of her parents, teachers, neighbors...the list goes on. Being the attention-hog that Angie is, she had an unfortunate habit of trying to steal the limelight, no matter what, which didn't exactly make her popular among her peers.

From a young age, Angie had a keen interest in singing and dancing, and as a child, she was in and out of all sorts of choirs and dance studios and the like. She seemed to thrive on the attention, and she was quite talented. Angie fell in love with the sparkly energy of K-Pop as a young girl, and when she was fifteen, she participated in one of the company's auditions in Los Angeles.

Angie moved to Seoul and went through the idol training program. There were...problems, right from the start; Angie is and has always been quite stubborn, and she didn't really like being told what to do. However, at that point, she was willing to put up with the bossy voice coaches and dance instructors, if it meant that she'd be able to become a K-Pop idol.

In 2009, Angie debuted as a member of the girl group 1V13 DESIRE. 1V13 DESIRE as a group got off to a rocky start; in that era, there were already plenty of popular girl groups, like SNSD/Girls' Generation and f(x). Honestly, Angie thinks that this part of her life was really...anti-climatic. Their group never got that much attention, and when the contract expired, Angie decided to try her luck making music in America. She moved to New York, where she signed on with a smaller record label and quickly came out with some new solo work.

A little after she turned 23, Angie was out at a club with a couple of her friends when some random douchebag vampire Turned her. Angie isn't too clear on the specifics of the entire night (she was wasted the entire night, basically), but that whole incident caught the attention of the NYPD's Béatrix de la Croix, who helped Angie adapt to the change. Initially, Angie kept her new circumstances a secret from basically everybody besides her cousin, but shortly after she released her first solo album ("Bloodsucker"), the higher-ups at her record label found out. Angie ended up leaving that record label a little afterwards, because they were basically telling her that they weren't about to accommodate her 'special needs'.

Angie was pissed at first, but now it's sort of whatever. She eventually made her way to 88Records, a hybrid management, record label, video production and marketing company that did a lot of work with Asian hip-hop acts. There, she began putting everything she'd learned into helping produce music for other artists. It's not her dream job, but again, it's whatever.

Angie currently lives in a cramped apartment with her cousin (a junior at NYU) and a few of his Lambdas brothers. They're absolutely disgusting (just because they're in an 'Asian-American interest frat' doesn't make them any less frat boy-ish), so she's trying to find a new place to stay after their lease expires. She joined the Artois family after Béatrix and a couple of other vampires she knew told her about their ideals, and for the most part, she's pretty minimally involved. She visits Amnesia NYC quite frequently, if only to gossip and talk shit and generally be lowkey annoying to her friend Nat (whom she first met at a music store, before she was turned).
