Bio

This is my second profile on here, and I have been Play-By-Post RPing for about nine years now. I do my best to see every RP to the end or at least let my character come to his/her own dramatic conclusion when I feel like signing off. Just like novel writing in real life, I tend to find myself on long hiatuses. Since writing is a great way to work out your brain, I try stay engaged as much as possible.

My favorite genres include futuristic worlds, mysteries, and super powers. Any mixture of these three elements will peek my interest.

The young minstrel watched curiously as a foreign creature padded through the door frame and mounted a stool just two seats away. The little strange creature started to speak in a dialect that the minstrel had never heard before. This curious sight was cut short by the barkeep. Geoff, as the minstrel came to understand, set the beer and tiny shot glass down in front of him.

"That'll be seven silver, since you still haven't paid for your last round, or the chicken."

"What? I could have sworn I paid after I escaped the whole wild orc situation," the minstrel said, pointing over to the still frozen giant orc in the middle of the room. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out exactly seven silver pieces, taking a deep sigh as he set them on the bar top. "But I guess I didn't. Here you go."

@Genni
Those seven silver pieces were all the minstrel had left to his name. He would have to start performing to earn his keep again. But first, he would drink his shot and then the ale, with hopes that he wouldn't end up like the little imp on the floor. He raised dramatically up in the air, and just before bringing the glass to his lips, he caught the scent of smoke. Following the scent, the young man looked over to the front door to see the most beautiful young lady he had ever laid eyes on. Something about her aura was glowing, and she had the cutest faint smile that said 'oops'. Noticing the flames behind her, he could only assume that she had started the fire.

It was just then that it hit him. He had seen this young woman before. He was sure of it. A bright light flashed in his mind's eye as he remembered a bright golden hue and a heavenly choir of music. It was a distant memory, if not an illusion of the mind altogether. But somewhere in the golden light that filled his vision he saw the young woman's face, though it looked different, foreign like the little creature on the stool. Then the golden light started to fade, revealing an entire crowd of faces before the scene disappeared altogether.

His laps in memory must have only lasted a second, as the shot glass was only halfway fallen to the ground when he regained consciousness. He tried to swipe at the glass to keep it from hitting the ground, but he knew he wasn't going to make it. He wasn't some sort of hyper reflexive man that inherited super human abilities from a wild mishap with an insect bite or anything like that.
@Smertless

I want to start a stat based rpg. Or I would like to find one similar to this to join:

The characters are all humans thrown into a universe where they have all had their memories erased. Everyone would start off at the same level of stats, and the stats would be kept simple. (Health / Strength / Speed / Magic / Exp. Points) The users would basically create all the minor conflicts in the game as they could create fantastical worlds within this universe. They would also create all the equipment and abilities, based on their experience level.

The stat system would allow for PvP battles. Plus individuals and groups could complete quests as long as their combined exp. points are high enough to complete the quest; then it's just up to them to write the story and earn the rewards.

Has anyone here heard of a RP like that??
The young minstrel finished his food and ale. He then looked up toward the barkeep. "Can I have another Dark Ale please? And a shot of whatever that little guy over there just had! Not nearly as much though!" His smile sung sweet ignorance to what he just asked for.

Bio: This magical young man only knows of his own past through the stories of others. It is said that he was found as an infant in the woodlands by an old hermit. That man raised this child as his own. It is said that the boy's talent for music and art was discovered at such an early age that the old man would take the child into the nearest village to play for money on the road side. It was an enchanting site to see a toddler who could play the lute with as much skill as any noble troubadour. Eventually, the king took the toddler away from the hermit to raise within the castle walls.

Rumors say that the boy's name was known all across the kingdom until one strange day, just after he turned approximately thirteen years of age. The whole kingdom was in attendance for the marrying of the king's daughter to a noble from another kingdom. At the end of the ceremony, the boy was to perform, but he was feeling particularly moody this day, perhaps because he felt love for the princess. Either way, he did not wish to perform. But the king was not pleased to hear this and forced him to play. It is said that the song he chose to play had a terribly dark tune, so dark that it penetrated the minds of everyone in the kingdom, even those not close enough to hear. Aside from a few magical folk, the memories of everyone in the kingdom were wiped clean of the last ten years. The ability to speak and the knowledge of skills were kept, but all other information was lost. Even the boy himself lost all memory of these years.

This memory loss ruined the marriage and threw the kingdom in disarray for many weeks until enough written records were dug up to piece together the last ten years. With that and the testimony of less effected magi, the king came to the decision to send the boy into exile for fear of a similar incident occurring in the future. The exile was done with such haste that the king didn't even bother to tell the boy the name they found in the records, the name that was presumably his. After his exile, all records of the boy was burned and all forms of musical entertainment were outlawed. To this day, the kingdom has grown to be known as "The Land That Never Dances". On his own, the boy wandered the surrounding kingdoms, playing melodies. Along the way, he pieced together his past from others that heard the rumors of his former kingdom.

Living in the savage wilds, the boy also learnt of another mystery surrounding himself. While he could feel pain and pleasure of the skin, any damage to his body would heal with a good night's rest. Even mortal wounds disappeared after regaining consciousness. He also realized that he only ate to satisfy his tastes. He found this out after going five days without seeing a town. All the while he worried that he would starve, only to realize that he never felt the thing described as famine.

Puzzled about his immortal condition, the boy wandered with a new purpose, to learn about origins. While his many adventures have done nothing to reveal these origins, they have revealed further depth into his magical abilities. In short, with the playing of an instrument or the singing of a note, he can cast spells to effect the minds of others. He can manipulate their will, erase their memories, implant false memories, or any number of tricks. Only those with a strong connection to magic can resist his manipulation.

Favorite Drink: He has grown fond of dark ale.

Mirai spell stopped the young lute player in his tracks just as the orc was about to swing his axe downward. This sudden freezing annoyed the lute player, as his song and dance had not reached it's proper ending. But perhaps he was letting things drag out too long. With a moment of concentration and inner magic of his own, the lute player snapped out of the trance.

He then walked to the backside of the orc, and played a few more moments of music. This time however, the music did not reach the ears of anyone other than the orc. This spell would erase the orcs memories and render it unconscious for a few minutes. Whenever it was released from the mage's spell, the orc would enevitably fall over in slumber, if it hadn't already woken back up by then. Either way, the orc would have no memories of being taunted by the lute player or being hit in the face with the door for that matter.

After dealing with the orc, the young, and now mysterious, minstrel mounted his lute again onto his back. He then walked to the bar in order to pay for and finish his meal and drink in peace.

@MonstrousMan
The young minstrel played his melody until he saw the raise of the orc's axe. "Well, it was worth a try!" He exclaimed before hopping down from his seat and running past the orc with all the speed and skill as your typical vagabond in his prime.

Determined to put on a good show, as all entertainers are inclined, the young man started playing a new melody. This melody had an upbeat folky tune, and as the young man played, he danced. With both eyes on the orc, his movements were intentionality taunting.
@monstrousman
The young man was already halfway through his first mug of ale when he ordered a plate of chicken as well. Between hardy gulps, he started to get a tingling feeling on the back of his neck. Turning around slowly, he saw a massive orc standing just inside the doorway. The orc stared straight at him with a most unpleasant look on his face.

The young man slowly pulled his lute around to his front side and faced the orc at his bar stool. "Hey big guy," his voice shook a little, "do you like music?" He then began playing a deep forest melody that he had often used to calm wild beasts, orcs included. In fact, throughout his wandering adventures, he had avoided a near death experience with a tribe of hungry orcs with this very same tune.
@MonstrousMan

Slowly shuffling his way to the bar with a sunken posture, the young man noticed a silver coin float just into view. His instincts as a starving musician kicked in right away as he snatched the coin out of the air with much vigor. Searching in the direction the coin had come from, he saw a rather mysterious looking fellow in the corner of the tavern. Just as he laid eyes on the man, he bear wittiness to a magical display of fire. Realizing that the tavern immediately became a little more cozy, it dawned on him that he forgot to shut the front door.

The young man quickly darted back over to the door and shut it with a graceful thud. Turning back around to face the man in the far corner, he exclaimed, "Thank you good sir! I really do appreciate your kindness. If you have any musical requests, please let me know. I am fairly well versed in all modern tunes."

A quick bow toward the magical man, and he resumed his walk to the bar. This time his step was more spirited, reaching the bar in a matter of moments. He asked the half-Orc bartender for a mug of the darkest ale in the house, dark ales being his favorite.
A lute playing very strange fast paced tunes grew louder and closer to the front door. Suddenly the door was kicked open relieving a young man making unsavory faces while stringing his lute madly. Caught up in the moment, the young man played three more dramatic chords before screaming with wide eyes, "Who is ready to ROCK!?"

Only seeing the half orc bartender and the barmaid going about their business, he let out a deep sigh. If he couldn't play this new music for a large crowd, he didn't want to do it at all. It had came to him in a dream, and he somehow knew that it would revolutionize the musical world one day, but not today it seemed. So he adjusted his lute to rest upon his back and sullenly walked his way over to the main bar, searching for lubrication.

This rp seems like it's going to be a little more of a time investment than I can handle right now. Plus I see there's already another healer applying with a much more intricate background. Combine that with people applying from the advanced interest check, and I probably don't stand much a chance being selected anyways. Have fun everybody!
