RISING UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF OUR RIVALS!

Bio

This is my second profile on here, and I have been Play-By-Post RPing for about nine years now. I do my best to see every RP to the end or at least let my character come to his/her own dramatic conclusion when I feel like signing off. Just like novel writing in real life, I tend to find myself on long hiatuses. Since writing is a great way to work out your brain, I try stay engaged as much as possible.

My favorite genres include futuristic worlds, mysteries, and super powers. Any mixture of these three elements will peek my interest.

Somewhat shocked at the appearance of a wild Spinarak and it's String shot attack Liz flinched back with Hephaestus.

"Alright little buddy, we didn't do to hot our last battle,
but at least we learned from it right?? I say we capture this little bug, you have an advantage over it!! Just try not to knock it out ok??"
Hephaestus nodded his understanding and ran towards the hanging pokemon. "Hephaestus, use scratch!!" The little monkey pokemon jumped up and swing out it's paws.

@Balthazar007

Chimchar came in hot, ready to scratch the Spinarak all up, but she wasn't going to stand for that. The horn on top of her head began to light up with a purple hue. She was preparing a special treat for her foe. Just as the Hephestus got in close, she evaded the attack... mostly. She wasn't able to get out of the way completely and took very minor damage. Unfortunanly for her, this also broke her concentration. Her horn faded back to normal.

She shook if off as quick as she could, and quickly began to build more purple energy in her horn.

Roll Result: Spinarak takes 1 point of damage.

I like the sassy spinarak, so I should make a post?? Or do you want to handle the battle aspect?? That's what has me tied up, I can maybe throw together one paragraph of me and Chimchar dodging and what not, but with you doing the rolling, I am don't want to make a post capturing the pokemon but you haven't even rolled yet

@balthazar007

@Metamore's question kind of addresses your issue. In your next post, you decide whether or not you will battle that Pokemon. Dodge the Sting Shot or not. Then begin to attack or run away. If you choose to battle, don't land any attacks or anything yet. Let me do a dice roll first. That result will determine how things go from there.

If the wild Pokemon wins the roll, it will avoid or block your attack and launch a counter attack. Your following post will have to let that attack hit, at least partially.

If your Pokemon wins the roll, I'll let the attack hit, at least partially. The wild Pokemon may even launch a counter attack, but you can dodge or block it. (Because you won the roll)

ALSO
You can also elect to throw a Pokeball right away instead of battling. In Metamore's case, this might be a smarter move, as the Chikorita won't have a "type advantage" over a Pokeball.
@Balthazar007
Let's say Rin does decide to fight this Chikorita, how exactly would that go? I know it says you'll roll two dice, but I don't understand what you mean by the die will represent their level, or how typing would come into play.
Could you give an example?

So!

Totodile is Level 6.
Chikorita is level 15.
Chikorita has one type advantage (Grass over Water). So she will get a 50% boost (50% of her current level 15). That equals a 7.5 boost. I always round in the player's favor, so that means she gets a 7 point boost. Totaling 22 points.
I now roll a level 6 dice (your Totodile) and subtract a level 22 dice roll (Chikorita).
Here is a sample result:
roleplayerguild.com/rolls/4679

As you can see, that is a -12 result. Meaning that Chikorita rolled a number 12 points higher than your Totodile rolled (in this example). Your Totodile thus takes 12 damage (more than what she can handle) and faints.

If you would have lost by less than 6 points, health would have went down, but you could have kept battling. Even with less "health" you would still roll a die 6 in battle.

If you would have won the dice roll, the Chikorita would have lost health instead, but you probably wouldn't feint him. Best case scenario, Totododile rolls a 6, Chikorita rolls a 1, and Chikorita takes 5 damage. You can then keep battling or try to catch the Chikorita with one of your Pokeballs.

A Pokeball dice roll is similar to a wild Pokemon battle. Pokeballs have a level 7 catch rate.
This means I will roll a die seven and subtract a die 15.
If the result is positive (meaning that your roll was higher), you will catch the Pokemon. If it is negative, the Pokemon may run away. If you battled the Pokemon first and weakened it, the level seven dice will be rolled against the Pokemon's lowered health stat.

The run away function is determined by a background dice roll. i.e. a more complicated spread sheet random number generator.

I hope I didn't overload you two with all that information. Let me know if you have anymore questions though.

sure, one second....
Liz's first Pokemon Encounter (Route 1: Forest)

Route One

Liz and Hephaestus traveled pretty deep into the woods, on the hunt for a wild pokemon. They carefully scanned the area, and find a huge patch of tall grass. They began to Travers it looking for someone to add to their party.

"Keep your eyes peeled buddy, we never know what we may run into,
keep calm and I am sure we can overcome anything, as long as we are together."
She said to the monkey pokemon, it chirped it's understanding.

While Liz and Hephaestus searched through the tall grass, little did they know, a wild Spinarak was watching from above in a nearby tree. The pair of them, Pokemon and trainer, looked so out of place, so vulnerable. The wild Spinarak couldn't help herself. She waited until the pair were right below before descending her sassy self right down in front of them. She took a moment to stare them in the eyes before using String Shot unannounced. The attack wasn't actually meant for battle, but rather to cover the faces of her two new guests, to show them who was boss... So now the question arose, "What would Liz do about this indignity?"

Rin's first Pokemon Encounter (Route 1: Forest)

...Nothing was going to stop them from catching 'em all! Rin dashed into the woods of Route 1, and headed straight for the tall grass with Anusobeket prowling behind them with predatory focus. Well, with all the predatory focus a not fully (but near enough) healed First-Stage Pokémon could muster. Perhaps Rin's rushing would spell danger for them? Only time would tell as they were on the hunt. Ready or not, here they come!

It wouldn't be too long before Rin and Anusobeket would find what they're after, but were they ready for the wild?

Without seeing the source, Rin and Anu suddenly came under attack. At blinding speeds, green leaves cut through the grass. The onslaught seemed relentless, but when it did finally end, they were in luck to find themselves without a scratch. However, the tall grass had been mowed down to reveal the face of a lone standing Chikorita. Despite the aggressive greeting, he seemed quite relaxed, as if he was only doing his duty. He was probably just protecting a nearby nest. The razor leaf must have been a warning shot... But what would Rin do?

@Cerces22

And before I go to bed, I am defaulting on my follow up post to your latest IC post. There really isn't much need at this point, considering you're character has already done so much in the span of such a short time. (Gotten started and had first battle)

I did however already change the stat sheets for the both of you already.

@Metamore@Cerces22
Personal Note: Not only do I have the background mechanics behind this RP completely figured out, but I've got a huge amount of plot devices already mapped out for the future. This is going to be great. I'm so glad you are both a part of this RP.

Alright, goodnight. I'll be back on in the morning.
@Metamore@Cerces22
Cool! As soon as one of you two (or both of you) post a reenactment of the battle within the IC section, I will add the gained level to your Pokemon. It looks like @Cerces22 has volunteered for this.

Also, I suspect that @Metamore is a little more experience with Showdown and thus knew how to set their IVs. While @Cerces22 probably didn't adjust her stats at all. Just a hunch. I could be wrong. If I'm right though, be sure to go back and customize your IVs @Cerces22.

Either way, this was a friendly battle. The reward is the same for both of you, win or loose. Battle experience!
@balthazar007

Who is character C?? Is it someone your joining in with, or has an other person been interested??

Character C is an open slot. If one more highly interested individual wanted to join us, I would consider letting them in. It isn't a spot for me, and it isn't a secondary spot that either one of you can claim. :)
