Bio

This is my second profile on here, and I have been Play-By-Post RPing for about nine years now. I do my best to see every RP to the end or at least let my character come to his/her own dramatic conclusion when I feel like signing off. Just like novel writing in real life, I tend to find myself on long hiatuses. Since writing is a great way to work out your brain, I try stay engaged as much as possible.

My favorite genres include futuristic worlds, mysteries, and super powers. Any mixture of these three elements will peek my interest.

Murkrows unconscious body falls to the ground, at the same time the Larvesta took off running. Liz sighed to herself and called her back to her pokeball. She could see Sunsay town in the distance, her strategy was to get to town and pick up some more pokeball and scout out the gym so she could form a strategy to get her first badge.

"It's ok guys, we got this, let's go visit Sunsay and have fun guys. Phoniks take it easy you did good." She started walking towards town.

Light was beginning to return to the sky. The sun would be peaking over horizon shortly. The power of youth and excitement had kept Liz up this long, but perhaps a rest and a meal at the Pokemon Center would do her some good soon.

As she walked, a small rock in the distance began to glow a strange pale light. Was it reflecting the light from the sky above? Or was it producing its own light? It would be too hard to tell from this distance. It was quite a ways off the main trail Liz was taking, so there was a large chance she would miss it. What a shame if that were to happen.

Phoniks took a huge hit, but still had some strength in her. Liz wanted Larvesta bad, and with only one pokeball left she had to make this count. If she was going to be the best, she would have to find a way to bring this bug down.

"Alright honey, I know that hurt, but we still got a shot here.
Try peck again!!"
Murkrow took off once more towards her opponent.

Larvesta built up a powerful Ember as the Murkrow began her attack. Then, just before she was in Pecking range, the Larvesta released it's Ember attack right at her face, while at the same time, dodging to the right.

Result: Murkrow Faints, Larvesta Runs

Excellent, wasn't trying to mess up your system, just trying to better understand it, now how you factor in moves like Hypnosis and toxic?? I just want a frame of mind to better strategize in the future

All moves are viewed in equal eyes in the RP Battle setting. The only thing that is considered is the typing. Mechanically, all they do is effect your dice roll.

As for those moves in particular, I assume you mean, what about Poisoning, Burning, Sleep, Confusion, and other stat effects. Well lets say, in the RP setting, Pokemon don't fully go to sleep when they are under the spell of sleep; they just get abnormally sleepy. Paralysis won't stop a Pokemon in it's tracks, it will only hinder its movements. If a Pokemon becomes confused, it won't start attacking itself, it'll just be less effective in carrying out a trainer's orders.

In all those cases, I'm just looking for justification to simply lower their roll, not have to use some off the wall logic that actually effects the battle in a biased way.

We have Pokemon Showdown to use when we want more strategic battles. And it will be used frequently. To challenge a gym... Showdown. To battle a main baddie.... Showdown. To battle against a Legendary.... Showdown. You can even challenge any trainer in the NPC section to a Shodown battle.

Let's leave in-depth strategy to Showdown and not worry about that in RP battles.
BUT I do want to change one thing about the system, to add a little realism. Pokemon are able to use moves that are of a different type than their personal typing, right? Well, from now on, move-type is considered when battling an opponent (not just the two Pokemon's inherited types). This adds a little more realism, but at the same time, it does not complicate things much for me.

Your Pokemon's roll is now effected thusly:
+50% for using a move-type that matches the Pokemon using it
+50% for using a move-type that the opponent is weak against
-50% for using a move-type that your opponent is resistant against
@balthazar007

Wouldn't Larvesta take one point for take down?? It's a new mechanic we haven't use before but the the user of take down gets hurt as well

While that makes sense, it over complicates things. For instance, I would then have to start taking into account the individual damage of each move within the RP setting, why then have moves that also inflict self damage? In that case, your Leer probably wouldn't have had the effect that it did before. I'd also have to start considering stat effects and all that jazz. I'd rather not get into those things.

RP battles are supposed to be simple. One roll vs another roll.

So to make logic out of this, let's remember that in the RP battles we are using an arbitrary new term called "Power". For instance, that second Murkrow had already been battling and taken a couple hits. But she still started her battle against you with full power. Along those same lines, the Take Down might have caused a little pain to the Larvesta, but it doesn't lower it's ability to fight.

I know I'm stretching to make things work according to my system, but please exercise your suspension of disbelief, and give me this one. :)
Liz ran up the biggest hill she could find so she could see if the next town was close by. As she created the hill a swarm of Larvesta took to the sky. One stayed behind, it looked ready for a fight, not wanting to break stride Liz tossed a pokeball in the air.

"Phoniks, we may not be as strong, but we have type advantage,
let's go use peck!!"
The newest member of the team came out and began flying right at it's opponent.

Larvesta was already in the middle of a powerful Take Down when the Murkrow was summoned into battle. The Murkrow's beak was just beginning to glow for its attack by the time Larvesta was in striking range. Things weren't looking well for Phoniks.

Result: Larvesta's Attack Hits

"Hey buddy, we got a new pokemon, I am going to call her Phokis.
Now I am to giddy to sleep, let's go, if we run, we can make the next town in time!!"
Hephaestus smiled and got into his pokeball, as Liz began to run off towards town. She had one spare pokeball left, she would need more when she got to town.

Liz had been running for hours, the hills being the largest portion of Route 1. When suddenly, she came across a swarm of Larvesta. They had been pretty well hidden in the tall grass, until she was only a few yards away from them. They were all startled by her fast approach. Most of them scattered, but one of them decided to run directly toward Liz, with much haste. He wasn't about to let some human spook him. A fiery aura began to emerge from his body as he charged forward.

Yes, whatever town is next, I thought bout going to the landmark but thought against it.

Well, I've added information on Route 2, Town 2, as well as marked down all the Pokemon that have been seen in the wild thus far. Now I will respond to your last IC post.
Talk to you later dear

Congrats! And to be clear, you're running off toward town #2 right? That means you have to Travers the hills first.

I'll go ahead and add information on the next town now, as well as throw one more reply at you while you're still on route 1.
Liz was excited she hi the bird pokemon!! It wasn't to happy though at the attack, but she wanted this damn pokemon. Hephaestus was standing waiting for a command, but she didn't think the Murkrow would hold an other attack.

"Murkrow, your joining me now!!" She threw a pokeball, hoping she didn't have to waste her last two on the Pokemon.

The wild Murkrow was caught off guard when the Pokeball struck her right on top of the head. She was in the middle of an attack and did not see that one coming. The red light brought her in, and the ball hit the ground. It violently shook three times in quick succession, then fell silent. Finally, a soft bell signaled a successful catch.

Result: Liz Caught a Murkrow!
