Kat's head shot up as more people approached her. She wished she had more people from her own group around, especially Ethan or Jason. She held Grace tightly and glared at the boy and girl defensively. If they were here to kick her out-
She relaxed when she realized they were making sure she was okay.
"I'm fine, but that rat faced dick is not going to be if I see his pointed nose around me or my baby again," she took a breath and closed her eyes, calming down before explaining.
"Sorry, I shouldn't have snapped at you both. But your friend up there just informed me that my baby was not welcome here. I'm Kathryn. This is my baby girl Grace. Look, I'm sorry about the crying, but she's just started teething. She can't help it."Kat relaxed completely when Jason walked up a few minutes later. She nodded, agreeing with his 'bad vibe'.
"Apparently Grace is a liability and not welcome here," she said in a tone that told him how she felt about that.
"So I guess I'm not staying."Seeing someone familiar Grace hiccuped through her tears and reached for Jason with the hand that was not holding the teething ring, grasping at his shirt. "Eee-ja!" she babbled, which was apparently 'baby language' for "my mouth hurts make it stop!"
Kat sighed and looked at Grace, her expression changing instantly from her normal hard exterior to a soft and worried mother.
"I know baby. I know it hurts. I'm so sorry," she murmured, cuddling her in an attempt to soothe her.
"She's started teething in full force," she told Jason worriedly.
"I'm not sure what to do. I don't know how to help her. I didn't have a mother to teach me this kind of stuff. Damn it," she swore softly as her eyes stung but she refused to let any tears show.
The fact that she was willing to admit that to him showed how much she thought of him.
