After the release of the Oculus Rift in early 2016, great strides had been taken in full immersion VR technology. By the year 2018, the DDVIS (Directed Dream Virtual Immersion System) was released to the public, and with it, the world changed. New businesses and enterprises were formed around the system, creating a economic-technological revolution even more significant than the dot-com bubble in the late 1990s, and without any crash coming afterward.
By 2025, full-dive MMORPGs have become a hot commodity, becoming nearly a $20 billion industry, with a number of different frontrunners for eating the time of the consumers who play the games. However, in the past months, a new game has entered the market. Strange as it seems, a F2P game, CyberDream, has started taking a market share, in spite of the stigma around the genre. The game is considered an oddity, to be sure.
A free game, with only the stipulation that players are only allowed to make a single character, and that if the character were killed, they would be barred from play forever. Citing dangers from different speculative fictions, many investigations have gone into the game, made by a complete unknown developer, to prevent any misuse of the technologies. Still, nothing has been found.

Players are allowed use of pretty much any handheld weaponry they can think of due to the highly immersive/flexible nature of the game.

"..." Advent took a sharp but deep breath, his nostrils flaring from both frustration and pain. He recoiled for a moment, then flexed his fingers. Nothing swollen, but the bruising and swelling would be a bitch. He shook off his fist then took another swing. He put a hole in the galvanized steel wall and frowned. "Not consistent enough..." He mumbled, withdrawing his fist. "Look, It was hell, okay? Plus I'm fairly certain that rubber bastard's hunting me down and... Oh for crap's sakes!" He finally noticed her laughing and moved right up into her space, putting her into a joint lock before rolling forward and throwing her to the ground face first. Unlikely to hurt her much, if at all. Still, he sat on her back, holding the joint lock. That was, if anything, where the pain would come from. "I'll break it, you know... Just because you can repair it doesn't mean it won't hurt..."
Advent didn't wait. He focused well as he could on armoring his fist and he threw it hard, aiming right for the woman's face.
It did nothing except cause him considerable pain.
"... Dammit!" Advent shouted as he winced, withdrawing his fist and blowing on it. "Don't give me that crap..." He grunted after wincing for a little while longer then regaining his composure. "Do you have any idea what I've been through the past week? I had to deal with a masochistic nutjob and a bloody bunch of villagers begging me to protect them from pirates! All the while you've been sitting in your leather chair and sipping fizzy water!" He roared.
It did nothing except cause him considerable pain.
