Another possibility is to find an irrelevant country and make it relevant. Red Canada? Monarchist south america? I don't know if anyone is playing Poland yet, and there's also Turkey

Well that's my plan. Befriend the US and have them invest in us so we can improve our infrastructure. Its a slow burn but the Commonwealth could become a local power with some investment. The US would appreciate having allies that control the strait to Alaska as well

As I'm sure I said one of the early intentions I have in this RP is to be soon involved in the Russian quagmire. You can be there, but from a military perspective I don't both will be lasting long since Siberia is so ungodly empty. From an ideological perspective, if one or both are pre-alligned communist then China'll probably end up avoiding you or both your statelets can be incorporated in the story involved. In either case if you plan on sticking around we'll probably have to put together a PM convo to work something out.

I would suggest playing an ideological standpoint. IRL the big source of tension in this era was Communist vs Capitalist. A little earlier you even had Fascism in the mix. South America could put a lot of pressure on the US by being communist or fascist.
