I'm currently working on the OOC, probably be another few days yet but here it is so far just so you can get a feel for what i'm going for. Any suggestions, ideas or whatever...feel free to share. Also if you have any locations you want to add, for example you may be a bar owner in Pallet Town, PM me and i'll get it added to the list pre game.

The World

Four decades ago Ash Ketchum the world renowned pokemon trainer called it a day and retired to a far off archipelago from the bright lights and cameras that began to swarm him at the end of his career. The world he left behind has changed somewhat but is for the most part entirely recognisable. Parents are no longer allowed to let their twelve year olds wander off on their own around the region of Kanto meaning the average age of a pokemon trainer has risen to eighteen. In addition to this, pokemon are no longer bound by the regions that they were back when Ash travelled the world. The Oak Institute, named after the late great professor of the same name, has led the way in pokemon conservation efforts for the last twenty years. Now headed by Oak's great grand daughter Arianna Oak, the Institute has seen to breeding programs of pokemon all around the world. This has meant pokemon not native to Kanto are now flourishing alongside the native species.

The infrastructure of the Kanto region is one of the biggest changes. Transport from city to city is quick with roads and train links making travel much easier than previously. Many cities are now directly linked to each other with even Cinnabar Island now being tied to the mainland by a direct bridge over the water to Pallet Town. Pokemarts are still around albeit with much more competition from independent stores and chains. Pokecentres are now all run by the Oak Institute and are able to provide any and all help a pokemon trainer needs.

The RP

Pokemon: Life is an idea I had after taking part in a wonderful RP called SOL City. I honestly suggest you take the time to check it out and to see the world that has been created. The GM's have done a great job and if I can build something half as successful as that I will be happy. I love the Pokemon games and I think the setting would lend itself well to a slice of life setting. The world of Pokemon almost always focusses on the life of the trainers but never the background characters. This RP will allow you to play as one of those characters whether it be a shop owner, pokemon ranger, gym leader or even a trainer if you so wish. Almost anything is acceptable.

I am in this for the long haul and would hope that those who join see this as an opportunity to create something that can last the long term. Ultimately life creeps up on you and bites you in the ass sometimes but as someone who has had that happen to themselves, that's ok. If you need to take some personal time then do so, all I ask is you let me know. You'll always be welcome back.

One thing to be aware of is that the set up of the RP will be made up of chapters. Each chapter will last for a few weeks in the real world but be a single day in game. When a chapter is going to progress everyone will be warned so that they can finish off what they are doing. Occassionally a special event will pop up which may last for longer than a normal chapter. These special events will not be compulsory to take part in but I would hope that people would get themselves involved...prizes await those that do.

If you have any questions or suggestions at any point do not hesitate to PM me. I'm open to suggestions and ideas whether it be for plot lines, locations or pretty much anything.

The Rules

1. The usual and standard rules of the forum apply. No playing god or taking control of other peoples characters, no being a prick to other people...you know, the usual stuff.

2. This is based on the world of Pokemon so the expectation is for characters to have an anime styled appearance. I am not an avid watcher of all anime, however please avoid using pictures of people from the likes of Pokemon or Dragon Ball. You get the gist, major, well known anime characters. If you struggle to find a picture then you can go here and create your own.

3. The age limit for characters in this is 18+. This is because as a slice of life RP, things will sometimes take a more serious or dark turn. In addition it is to ensure that any budding romances that may occur between characters are totally above board and legal.

4. Try to write to the expected standard of the casual section. I'm not expecting essays but at least one coherent paragraph when interacting with others is expected. When alone then i'd expect to see at least two paragraphs. In addition to this please write in the third person.

5. While characters may not be friendly to each other in game I fully expect people to, at the very least, be civil outside of the game. Anyone breaking this rule will be booted without hesitation.

6. Multiple characters are allowed but I would much prefer one fully fleshed out character over two half-assed characters.

7. I will have missed some rules off because I'm not perfect but as long as you're a decent human being then i'm sure you'll be fine.

8. I just remembered a rule, you are roleplaying as a human. You are not roleplaying as a pokemon or as some sort of weird human pokemon hybrid. While some event's may result in more focus from your pokemons perspective, on the whole you will be playing as your human character.

@medalliahCould be someone starting off, halfway through their badges or even completely recognised and globally famous. Could go as far to be a gym leader if you wish. The only no no will be the Elite Four. Plus once we get started gym leaders will be set so is really only an option prior to starting.

✦ The Laughter is an ability that is neither supernatural or magical in origin, simply being something that happens as a result of his will. It is the ability to make any being whether human or supernatural laugh at his own will. This could be a simple giggle to the extreme of making someone laugh until they die. The deaths result in grotesque corpses with permanent grins of laughter etched into their cold, dead faces. Only those with the strongest willpower are able to resist. Further to this he is able to throw his laugh to confuse and disorientate others.

✦ The Deception allows Connor to exist a moment in time before before all other beings. The split second gives him what is effectively a sense for incoming danger allowing for reaction times far superior to any mortal being. Where the deception comes in is the trickery of he can inflict upon those who gaze upon him. For someone shooting at him, he can dodge the incoming bullet but he can make them think he had been reduced to a bullet riddled corpse.

✦ Compulsions are a performers curse within this Circus. For Connor his is the requirement to keep his mask on when in the presence of others. For all his power and skill, he will only keep it as long as his face is kept hidden from the world.

A down on his luck street performer, Connor stood on the same street corner each and every day. No matter the abuse, no matter the threats, he would be there each and every day making the local children laugh and smile. This tenacity to practise his art no matter what stood in his way is what drew the Ringleader to Connor.

His history is one that he doesn't care to remember either and so he doesn't focus on it. He lives for the moment and the future, seeing history as something that does nothing but weigh a person down. If he truly took the time to reflect on his past he would drown within his own thoughts. Since joining The Circus he has found a home and family that he had lacked in his early life. As one of the earliest and longest serving members he is highly trusted and valued. Aside from his performances within the Circus itself, he has also proven to be a very capable hunter. His unique talents have tricked more demons that any one person would be able to keep count of.

When not performing and hunting he is far from the character he portrays on stage. He is very open, compassionate and makes times for others. Whether it is a new member or someone suffering emotionally, he will go out of his way to listen. The biggest problem he has is his longing for love. He loved once...a woman who joined not long after he did. His inability to remove his mask was no barrier for her and the pair shared a love that blossomed. The sad truth is that after thirty years together she was taken from him by a demon, her very soul torn from her body and feasted upon before his eys. It has taken centuries but he can feel a longing within his heart that eats away at him once more. He wants to feel whole again.

Connor is one of the longest serving members of the Circus and takes the time to make them feel at home and comfortable. He is also one of the go to people when more serious threats emerge.

The lights dimmed on the empty stage allowing the darkness to blanket everything and everyone in the room. With an audible accompanyment of percussion a spotlight hit the stage to find a crumpled body on the floor. The crowd stared blankly at the motionless mass caught in the spotlight. Moments passed by and people began to whisper, confused as to what they were watching. Then without warning the body rose upright almost as if picked up by the scruff of the neck, leaving the performer known as the Harlequin stood like a puppet. His head hung in his chest with his arms swaying at his side as his shock movement caused gasps to escape from some of the more jumpy audience member.

A thunderous bass drum echoed throughout the tent as slow percussion accompanyment followed behind. The Harlequin moved with each beat, his movements rigid and giving the impression he was more puppet than man. Soon the beat picked up and his movements became much more fluid, much more human like. Then with the crack of the drums once more tha movement and noise ceased.

A soft applause followed as the Harlequin stood on the stage, his hands out to his side and head leant backwards. With a slow movement he lowered his head back to its natural position, his masks cheeky grin on show for crowd. As the applause grew louder he brought his hands together with an echoing clap, the lights turning off dead.

Silence befell the crowd once more as the darkness took over. It was soon broken by a quiet laugh at the back of the crowd, seconds later it was replaced by laughter at the opposite end. With each passing moment the same laugh came from different parts of the crowd, each time getting louder and louder. Then in a blazing lightshow multicoloured spotlights turned on and off on the stage. With each split second of light the figure of the Harlequin mockingly laughed at the crowd. He moved from point to point in what appeared to be an instant, no way would any man be able to perform such feats of speed. The laughter continued to get louder and louder with the lights flickering faster and faster. They flickered so fast it almost seemed like there were ten versions of the Harlequin on the stage. The laughters volume was almost menacing as the performance approached its finale. Then with one last hit on the bass drum the laughter stopped and the spotlights disappeared leaving one lone conical beam of light on the centre of the stage.

There was no sign of the Harlequin, disappearing from the stage in the blink of an eye. Slowly the spotlight rose up towards the top of the tent, illuminating the red and white fabric in the process. Adults and children alike knew what was coming but that didn't stop them watching with intent, mouths open. Then as anyone would predict, the Harlequin hung by his legs from the top of the tent. As the spotlight caught him in his entirety his laugh erupted around the arena once more, stretching his arms out to his side.

What happened next nobody in the crowd could forsee. The Harlequin loosened his grip with his legs and began to plummet to the floor below out of the spotlight. Screams and cries poured forth from the audience as they watched the artist fall to the floor below out of the spotlights gaze. As the light slowly lowered, with the gasps and screams still emanating from the crowd, it revealed the Harlequin stood once more. His laugh filled their ears one last time as he pointed at them almost mockingly. The lights faded on the Harlequin one final time, leaving his laugh to echo into nothingness. The darkness which was often a precursor for fear brought forth a rapturous applause.

@Walulululuigi For the most part it will be allowing people to live the life of their characters but every couple of weeks there will be "events" that will bring some unique occurances. Hopefully everyone will get involved with the events, they will involve skipping the IC timeline forward so everyone can logically create a reason why they'd be in the region it is taking place. Other events will be Kanto wide.

Obviously the number of people who join the RP will play a big part in what happens. As I said in the initial post however, I fully intend on seeing this through no matter how many people join.

@Walulululuigi Well ideally I’d want a bit more realism in the sense that parents don’t let their 12 year olds go wandering off on their own In terms of changes the biggest would be the defeat of Team Rocket and the creation of the Oak Institute. The OI have made it so Pokemon flourish in each and every part of the world. This is so people can catch whatever Pokemon they want, where they are.

As for Gym Leaders and stuff, they will have moved on or retired. It allows someone to become a Gym Leader if they so wish.
