Static

beep beep beep beep

A jolt of electricity shot from Virgil's hand, turning off the annoyingly loud alarm as he pushed himself up from his face-down sleeping position and rolled over onto his back. He rubbed his eyes before staring up at the ceiling and letting out a tired sigh. A Tuesday night was very obviously not the time to marathon 'The Lord of the Rings' and Virgil knew that before he slipped that first DVD into his laptop. It didn't stop him though, obviously, and he didn't regret it at all.

Well, maybe a little.

He rolled out of bed, waving his hand over a small speaker system as he moved to the bathroom. He had to poke his head out of the bathroom before he could properly get ready for the day, the song that had came over the speaker system was a little too...punk for how he was feeling at the moment. No, today was a 90s rap kind of day, something a bit more funky than Black Flag. After a few zaps towards the speaker system he was finally satisfied, returning to the bathroom to shower and get ready for the day.

An hour later and Virgil was almost at his destination. He would have been a lot quicker had he invested in a car, but road rage often made him sap the battery out through the steering wheel and knowing the drivers of Metropolis, he'd be left battery-less every other day. A bike suited Virgil for the time being, he had quite a good control over his powers at this point, but he always felt there was more to learn, more limits to push, and more power to be gained through them. But that would have to wait until later, for now he was visiting his old mentor, Curtis Metcalf also known as 'Hardware' to the more hardcore superhero groupies who had seen him in action in his youth.

Virgil left his bike at the door and walked in, following the noises of welding and crafting down to Curtis' workshop in the basement. As he descended the stairs he could see the tech-wizard hard at work, barely even glancing at Virgil as he rushed around the room, grabbing bits and pieces here and there and then carefully soldering them together on a large workbench near the back of the room.
"Hello to you too, Curt, it's impolite not to greet your guests you know." Virgil grinned, if there was one thing he liked to do it was annoy Curtis. He'd known the guy for years now, and in all those years he can only recall 1, maybe 2 times that Curtis had cracked a smile at a joke? The guy was stoic for sure, but the two got on rather well, despite their differences.
"That's Professor Metcalf to you kid, don't know how many times I gotta tell ya' before it catches on." Replied Curtis, turning 180 degrees with a blowtorch to face a table, almost singing off Virgil's eyebrows in the process.
"Ok then 'Professor Metcalf'" Mocked Virgil, purposely putting on a stupid voice as he repeated the title. "What are you building? You seem pretty focused for someone who wanted to retire early."
"Yeah, yeah, retire from the hero business, not retire from inventin', plus you should be grateful. If i'd retired from that you wouldn't have any of that fancy gear you're rockin'. Let alone this." He picked up what looked like a set of very small metal pipes, small enough to fit into your pocket with ease. Virgil looked at it in confusion.
"Wow, Curt, I know we all go through creative slumps, but this is something else." Virgil taunted, only to receive a slap across the back of the head that left him rubbing the sore spot.
"Don't be dense, kid, it's a staff. If you connect the parts usin' yer' power you'd see that." Virgil did as he was told, and to his surprise he was now holding a rigid metal staff.
"Why do I ever doubt you Curt?" His response was a low grumble from Curtis.

A few hours later

Virgil sat on a stool in the communal kitchen of Metro Tower, picking at a bowl of crisps while slowly strolling through twitter. It was the usual stuff, celebrity drama and things Virgil didn't really care about. Procrastination at it's finest.

He was startled a little by the intercom announcement, taking out an earphone as Robotman's laugh loudly echoed through the tower. He sighed, in many ways fighting snake-people was more interesting than mindlessly scrolling through social media, but in many ways he still had half a bowl of crisps to eat.

10 minutes or so later and Virgil was suited up and heading to the teleporting station, swinging his goggles around his finger as he entered the room. For once he was the first person there, he gave a small wave to Robotman as he put the goggles on over his forehead.

"S'happenin' Cliff, going all the way to Midway City to play Snakes and Ladders?"
@Chain Redesigned Static a little the other day and thought you might dig it!

I love it! The costume was the hardest part to decide on for me, but this is great!
@Omega Man I'd like a micro if that's cool.
Interested!
@Afro Samurai If we've both got DOOM avatars, does that make one of us a Doombot?
Played it sparingly a few years ago, from what I played and heard it's pretty mediocre and nothing special. Cover art was cool though.
@BluetommyLet me know when you're around! Nevermind I'll just go ahead and post it in here.... if ya like it PLEASE make it your avatar!

Gave him something of an explosion for a symbol, made his color scheme black and gray with yellow trim, and added metal accents, the leather belt, and an Iron Man/Halo style face shield. Hope I don't disappoint...

Sort of reminds me of the old PS3 game 'Haze' if anyone played it.
