Whhrrrr

Thunk Thunk Thunk

Rusted, aged machines punctuated by jagged edges and blunt lines spit out piece after endless piece of cold slate grey steel doodads, the distinct musty aroma of coolant and way oil omnipresent. These ancient iron titans of an industrial age long forgotten by the rest of the city, had performed this daily routine for 80 odd years now, and as the night drew to a close, the calloused hands of tiny beings called for them to stop and rest, to await the coming of a new sun.

Ephraim felt a wave of relief as the last few machines were shut down for the night. It was a solid work day, the pieces ran were the same as the week before and the machines were a steady as ever. This night, as all Friday nights since Ephraim started and probably years before him would end just a 2 hours earlier than the rest of the week day, precisely 12 O’clock on the dot. Just in time for these salt-of-the-earth workers to catch the last few hours of their prefered alcohol establishment.

Ephraim did one last round of his section checking and double checking that each gauge, outlet, and valve were where they should be before he quickly jogged to catch up with the rest of his coworkers. The factory doors were quickly shut and locked behind them.

Ephraim waved his farewells as each coworker got into their own vehicle, seldom wanting to stay more time at the factory as needed. The night shift, was a “skeleton crew” of sorts just a small handful of men that ran parts and pieces deemed “important” by the spooks at the company office. These men would seldom cross paths on the factory floor as their respective machines were spread out amongst the rather large building. instead they spent most of the evening in their lonesome, with their work as their only constant companion.

Ephraim had only been in Sol City for just over 6 weeks, but he already marked out a dingy little dive just a few blocks away from his cramped studio apartment. The 501. It was certainly a “spot”, as in, a spot on the clean linens of society, but that venue served its purpose: cheap, watered down drinks and greasy table snacks.

Confidently, Ephraim pushed aside the doors, a fight each time as the hinges had unaligned by fluctuating temperarures long ago, and took up a bar stool towards the middle of the counter. Luckily this one only creaked a little as he took his tired seat to the seat.

At the sound of a new patron, the barkeeper pried his eyes from the soft humming of an old crt TV playing reruns of some dated 60s "classic". With a huff hr met eyes with Ephraim who promtly nodded to the barkeep in greeting. Without so much as a word, a chipped glass, some whiskey, and chunks of foggy ice was drawn from some dark depths of the counter.

Ephraim would usually nurse a glass or 2 over the course of the short night, accompanied by a few cigarettes from an almost empty box. That was the plan tonight, as it had been every Friday night. To some it would seem that Ephraim was stuck in a rut, kicking up mud as his wheels spun in place, but it was a simple pleasure to have a familiar place with familiar faces that one can count on to not change.

Just a bit longer
@Pilatus

Im not entirely following how these time skips work. Are actions doing the rest of the night implied when time skip ends or in that we can write about that time period up until the "continium" is reestablished?

Profession: Factory Line Worker

Bio/Personality:
There are those that are privileged and those who lack, but for the vast majority stuck in between, life is just the steady passage of time.

Ephraim is the first son and eldest sibling of a traditional suburban lower-middle-class family. Grew under a working-class father exchanging his youth and health to provide a steady check. Raised by a wide-eyed mother, sacrificing her own ambitions and dreams to build a loving home for him and his 2 younger sisters. Now, his parents are getting older but still together, his sisters growing or grown, are ready to find their own path. And so must he.

All that said, Ephraim is a man of little import, his work mundane, his life lackluster, his ambitions realistic, but he is not unsatisfied or wanting. But in all, life treated him well, as well as anybody can hope, so it would only be fair to live life to the best of his abilities through all its highs and lows. To Ephraim, nothing is a given, all paths have a toll, it is up to him and him alone to decide how it should be handled.

However, to Ephraim, there is mark and merit not only in the peaks and valleys but to the plains as well. The mundane has virtue, therefore, requires excellence. The lackluster is consistent therefore demands diligence. And lofty ideals and dreams only serve to disregard everyday responsibilities. To the layman, nothing in life is set in stone, the smallest steps create waves and ripples of all sizes in future travels. Thus, humans thrive under habit and methods, with their own way to life with vices and virtues; some can overcome, some may be forgotten, some may be found, and some others mistaken.

Thus, Ephraim knows that the only agency he has in life is his own. He makes his own path, his actions and their consequences his own. There are no fates nor destinies. He does not make excuses, or bargains, for every choice has its own price and reward as well as a time to make them. But, he is human with his own share of anger, jealousy, pride, and greed. Thus he knows that others struggle through the same, but does not pretend to know how or why, but he will offer and accept help when needed. Ultimately, however, problems can only be solved by those that make them.

Ultimately, Ephraim came to this new city for a job, a job he has no intention of half-assing. He’ll learn what he can, take advice from those willing, and do his best not to disappoint. It doesn’t pay extravagantly, hours fluctuate from week to week, but its chance to live for himself. With a small studio apartment, an inkling on how to provide and take care of himself, he makes ends meet, sets a bit away for the future, but also recognizes the merit of taking a load off.

For now, he has no overarching goals, but he does find the appeal of finding someone to start a family with, but he knows that could be a long ways off. For now, he contents himself with working hard, finding comradery in his coworkers and spending his days off in their company around a table shooting shit in a room filled with the smell of booze and smoke.

*How many years have you been writing/roleplaying? Roleplaying for 7 years now, all through Tabletop RPGs though. Roleplaying like on this site is rather new to me, but I hope my history of writing dumb campaigns and scenarios for friends as well as creating a small company of characters (of “variable” quality) can help me out here. I usually have time on the weekend to really devote time to sit down and write, but I can pluck away at ideas in my off time on the weekday. That said I work around 60 hrs a week at a CNC Machine Shop, well into the late night, but depending on what I have to do for that week, I can usually find time to get on my phone.

Thanks y'all, appreciate the encouragement. Honestly I thought i didn't even submit my post, I thought my internet was being fucky again, I didn't think there was a laggy site issue lol, sorry for the triple post.

Ill go ahead and post in Characters, and I guess ill try read up on recent happenings. Thanks for your patience.
Hey, I'm extremely new to the site, but I think I stalked around and learned enough from others here to dip my toes in this type of RP.
I guess this would be my attempt at an application, so I'm open to any suggestions and feedback. I'm not really sure how much I should be replying, or interacting so you might need to use the stick, as much as the carrot to teach me how to interface with sites like this. And to add, I guess I'm pretty late to this RP, but I found it interesting and different from what I'm used to so I might as well dive in.
