Day 2 // A song that helps you clear your head.

Black Balloon - Goo Goo Dolls

Originally, I was going to post two different songs before this one, but I think they would be better suited for different days in the 30 Day Song Challenge. For this very reason, I went for Black Balloon instead and to be honest with you: I had no idea that this song had such positive effects on my mentality. I didn't even discover this song until August 16th which is when I went to see Goo Goo Dolls live. I immediately heard this song and fell in love. And if there's anything I learned about clearing my head, it's to do it when I'm anxious. What has made me anxious lately?

Airplanes.

Today, I had to fly in an airplane by my lonesome for the first time ever. Yesterday, one of my close friends was pronounced dead. When I was getting ready for my flight, I was listening to this song and when I heard about my friend's death, I was listening to this song as well. While there's nothing particularly calming about this song, I totally associate Goo Goo Dolls with safe travels (I watched planes take off all night during their concert so the good association is there) and for some reason, it's comforting in a time of loss.

For these very reasons, I consider "Black Balloon" to be a song that helps me clear my head.

Ghost - American Authors

I honestly find it impossible to hear an American Authors song and not automatically feel a certain surge of happiness, but Ghost is a particularly powerful song for me. Not only does it has extremely encouraging lyrics, but they are also told in an extremely upbeat way. Additionally, this song also has positive associations to autumn and more particularly, a rather enjoyable Thanksgiving for me. Even stoic me cracks a slight smile whenever I hear this song.
