Sunny had followed the rest up to the Agency's office space and taken a seat around the coffee table like most of the others, but he remained quiet as their boss laid out the details surrounding their first job and his new colleagues offered their own approaches. For the most part, he stared down at his plate of strawberry shortcake as they talked, but didn't lift the fork he'd brought along to eat it, seemingly deep in thought, or perhaps in a full-out reverie. It was only when people began suggesting going to the extreme of "dealing with" the demon in a permanent way that he abruptly lifted his head to shoot the offenders an intense glare. Finally, he took a deep breath and let it out slowly as "Henry" began to teach Selene how to use a phone, and spoke up at long last, looking toward Leonardo with a pensive frown:

"Boss, we've only been contracted to determine whether the possession is real and what the cause of the situation is, 's that right? If that's all that's needed, and if the supposed Demon can actually read minds, then all we need to do for the former is trick it into doing so while we're speakin' with the kid, and presumably his momma'd let us do that without pretendin' to be a psychologist. I figure we want to do that first, before takin' any other steps, because if there's actually a Demon involved, then after that all we can really do is advise Miss Amari to seek the help of the Church and then we investigate how it happened separately, but all the extra legwork 'n contrivances involved in Mimi here feignin' a profession might not be necessary. Plus, if Momma finds out we lied about it, she ain't gonna be happy. Not to disparage your contributions, Miss Tuckinshine." He gave Mimi a thin, strained smile as he concluded.
"Well, I love me a good nature documentary," Sunny opined in response to Winnifred in his usual soft-spoken way, scratching at the stubble on his cheek with a relaxed smile. "'Fraid I ain't as big a movie buff as yourself, though. Not even sure I can name my favorite film, come to think."

Anything more he'd been about to say was interrupted as more people began entering, whom he turned his head to regard while maintaining his honest smile. First a girl who seemed equally dressed for a funeral as Sunny himself. Upon spotting him, she seemed to become a bit skittish, which made him feel as if he'd offended her by his presence. Making a mental note to himself to try extra hard to get along with her, he stayed peaceably quiet and simply watched the rest of the new hires of Sidereal Agency trickle in. Or maybe not all new "hires"? The woman dressed like a femme fatale was saying something about a business partnership... Hm. Interesting.

And last to arrive was their glorious leader-slash-new-boss! Sunny gave Leonardo a solid nod as he entered and offered to pay for strawberry shortcake for any who desired it.

"I'll have a slice if you don't mind, Keith," he quietly uttered to the barista as an aside as Mimi took charge and proposed an icebreaker, which the boss-man agreed to. It was nice to have a new co-worker who was so comfortable in their own skin like her or Henry, he mused, even if her words about herself suggested she could evidently change roles at the drop of a hat. Most of the rest seemed like they were less than thrilled to be meeting so many new people at once.

Take Derald, for instance, who seemed to think Sunny Clearview was some kind of former cop. The blond man couldn't help but let out a subdued chuckle at that. Well, he wasn't that far off. Once the self-proclaimed inferior mage had finished saying his piece, the bespectacled man jumped in and took his turn.

"Well, 'law enforcement' is technically off the mark, but you're in the right ballpark," he explained, his words managing to carry in spite of his reluctance to raise his voice. "Pleasure to meet y'all. The name's Sunny Clearview - and since Winnifred's already expressed her skepticism, yes, that's my real name from my very own birth certificate. It's not somethin' I can talk about in great detail, since much of my work for the D-o-M was classified, but my most recent job was in special operations related to Mystics.

"I'm not really trained in Magecraft beyond Reinforcement, but I've got an Ivy League education in Political Science and Chemistry. Latter should be useful for forensics work, and former should be useful because, let's face it, if there ends up bein' some kinda Mystic-related conspiracy, there's a good chance politicians are gonna be wrapped up in it somehow. I was also born with Mystic Eyes of the Prana-Sight variety; they do about what you'd expect based on the name, but I tend to wear these Mystic Eye Killer glasses most of the time to avoid accidentally using 'em when it's not needed.

"And if you're thinkin' I'm gonna narc on ya 'cause I'm a former fed, no need to worry there, Brother," he said with a wink to Derald after a beat. "Ain't no love lost between me and the government. If I never see another member of the DoM ever again, I'll be a happy man."
"Haha!" the man called Sunny chuckled lightly at Winnifred's words. "Maybe it sounds fake to you, Miss, but Sunny Clearview really is the name my momma gave me, as I live and breathe! I'm, uh, 'fraid I'm not great at pronouncing names like your surname, though, so I hope you don't mind if I use your first name, and I don't mind one whit if you use mine. If you're big into movies, what would you say your favorite genre is?"

"Much obliged, Keith!" the former special operator said, beaming toward the barista as he accepted his mocha and took a sip, followed by sighing in satisfaction. "Ahhh, now that's some good coffee! Y'all must have some real skill in roasting the beans! And good to know, about the magecraft stuff."

At Richard's offer, however, he chuckled again and shook his head. "No offense, but that's not a bet I'd take, my friend. Knowing me, I'd end up picking exactly the wrong one, for a given value of wrong, heh. Besides, I wouldn't wanna change the flavor of a brew this fantastic! What's your specialty, then, Sir? Alternative medicine that actually works 'causea magecraft?"
The man walking in a handful of steps behind the first lady was also dressed in a way that might be described as business casual, although this one seemed to have his clothes more in order, or at least fresh instead of ragged... but somehow, his attire made him look as if he was in mourning. A black button-down (no tie), black slacks, black belt, and black dress shoes. It seemed at first glance like the only splotch of color on his attire were the golden buttons on his black leather coat, which matched his hair color nicely.

He drank in the sight of the cozy little establishment and its barista's words for a couple beats from the door (which he'd mercifully let shut behind himself, so as not to let the cold Winter air in), then sauntered over and took a seat close to the counter, letting out a slight exhale and then smiling towards his "fellow customer" and the man offering him a free coffee.

"Sure, I'll take a-- actually, can I leverage her rejected coffee for a specialty drink?" he half-joked in a light Southern accent, voice soft and blue eyes twinkling behind his oval glasses. "Or I can just pay for a mocha, if that's gonna set you back any. I don't mind."

Once his drink order was in and any necessary money (cash) had changed hands, the bespectacled man, still smiling mildly, asked the barista, "So, you Mister Glenlight?" then looked in the woman's direction as well and nodded towards her before adding, "And I'd like to get to know my new colleague as well, long as it don't trouble you, Miss. As for me, I'm Sunny Clearview, former Special Forces. Pleased as punch to meetcha both."
Hello! If you're still accepting signups, I have a general character concept in mind that I think would be interesting and would hopefully fit in your version of the setting! I just wanted to check to make sure there was still an open slot before I went and wrote a signup. Also, I'm quite new to this site, so I just want to make sure: are we supposed to post our signups here in the OOC tab, or the Characters tab, if they're not yet accepted?
I see! Well, thank you both for the warm welcome, and additional thanks for Yankee for the info! That's a big relief, honestly! Now I just need to make sure I remember to actually archive my current RPs in question...
Hi there, I'm Darksidevoid (DSV, Dark, or Void for short)! I got my start RPing back during 2009-10, in a Bleach (the animanga by Tite Kubo) RP on a dedicated forum. After that one died an early death, I moved on to the next location I happened to find for play-by-post RPing, which was, of all things, the RPing subsections of the TVTropes (TVT) Forum. I've been more or less continuously RPing on TVT for the past 15 years, generally always in the format which here on RPGuild seems to be classified as "Advanced RP" (multiparagraph, stringent on good spelling, etc.), as shorter-form RP was unappealing to me. I've also been GMing RPs for the past ~3.5 years, beginning with the reboot of a RP which I was previously a player in, and then that sort of spiraled out of control as I took to helping with GM duties for several more RPs, most of which are still ongoing. Most of my RPing experience is what you'd call "fandom" RP, particularly multi-fandom crossovers, although I do sometimes dabble in purely OC-related RP.

I've looked through the RPGuild subforums and noticed a few RPs that are of interest and that I might want to join, but the main reason I'm signing up for RPGuild currently is because the possibility of the TVT mods deciding to simply nuke the TVT RP subforums on a whim has been looming over my RP groups for many years now, and I thought it would be good to have a backup in mind. That said, if anybody actually bothers to read the introduction posts in this subforum, I'm curious how kosher it would be to "transfer" a RP from off-site to this one, in the sense of having the posts of the RP on the prior site archived and downloadable while simply continuing the RP on this site.
