That ending is obviously giving into the Reapers. If it's shown what the Illusive Man wants, and he's been indoctrinated the entire friggin' series, and Starbinger is fucking daddy Reaper of a race of sentient machines that are all about subverting people's minds and influencing them to do their bidding, I'm pretty sure that's a pretty fucking stupid choice.

That was an entertaining read. I'm guilty of using a few of these abundantly, particularly #1 and #8, which are often coupled together by way of a character's parents (and maybe even their whole extended family) dying when they're 16 which prompts them to become magically competent. #2 often happens as well, because tragedy is a quick and easy plot device to fill up that history.I've had a lot of fun flouting some of these tropes though, like #34. I had a one on one sorta roleplay going on with a World of Warcraft character that hadn't initially been intended to turn to romance, but it made its way there. My character was a total virgin dude and when they got down to business I played it straight and he didn't even last a minute. Totally threw my RP buddy for a loop OOC and she ended up having to console my horribly embarrassed guy with "it's normal, don't worry about it, happens to most guys their first time, more experience will make it better" sorta things while I was laughing my ass off IRL.
That is magical and hilarious. XD
