Bio

21 year old white man. Do I get Social Justice points for being gay?

Lame (and somewhat rude) jokes aside, I'm an American college student majoring in Media Studies and hoping to work in game design. I've run several tabletop RPGs over the years, mostly in the vein of D&D and Pathfinder. I dabbled in forum RP years ago, and am hoping to have a joyous reunion with the art now.

My greatest strength is probably my ability to realize my weaknesses and take honest criticism without feeling put down. One of said weaknesses is my bad tendency to proofread after posting something, so feel free to point out spelling mistakes or small grammatical errors if I've left a post lying around a little while.

I swear I don't bite, though the zombies might. (Ask me about my moral position on Necromancy.)

@shylarahThat could work, although it sounds incredibly grim and I'm not sure how the population could stomach it. I did have this idea about the remains of poor dead people being used in the smelting process for building material, so that in a way, Magnagrad is "built on the backs of the dead", or something like that. Building material isn't composed entirely of dead folks of course, but it does contain traces of them (sort of like how the Hoover Dam has dead workers in its foundations). Maybe the Church preaches that it's a worthy service to give your body over to be used to "further the city's spread" or something.

I imagine your family could be compensated in a moderate way if your corpse is given over to the city. Most of the poor end up taking it, since the tiny windfall can buy them survival for a bit more time.
EVERYONE DUCK, BECAUSE SHIT WAS JUST THROWN AT THE FAN!
@Lovejoy@deathbringer

I imagine it would make sense to heal the most inconvenient wounds, but why waste the major amounts of ether and time to mend broken bones? He was already stable, now he should be coherent and able to walk once he has a splint, crutches, etc. Still, it would take too much and too long to bring him to fighting capabilities.
So I was thinking... Why do we take it as truth that the fire titan was killed? If the Ice Titan was broken in 12 pieces and survived as such, why the heck couldn't the Fire Titan immortal its way through a giant sword through the chest? Magic? Well, I would think magic is why it didn't collapse under its own weight, so it should have plenty to survive somehow. What are the odds our continent simply had the luck of 0 fire titan presence, while El had some which has steadily grown to power? Knowledge of something along these lines would certainly explain Lanostre's willingness to surrender to Varya - to strengthen Ice itself.
I mean, not necessarily. We equate the idea of oppresive societies with restrictions on gender, sexuality, and race, but in a world where the gods never express that themselves, who can say where it would sprout?

Varyan society is based on restrictions, duty, and one's place. It does seem pretty meritocratic, so someone might "get away with it" if they're exceptional, but no part of the state will waste (so far as they are concerned) resources on researching gender surgery, and while I doubt Varya disapproves of sex, not producing more people is pretty objectively bad for a war-based empire who needs people to do the fighting and work the industry.
That lines up well. It would be pretty odd for such a domineering society to not domineer gender and sexuality.
@CollectorOfMyst@shylarah

I don't think it would be restrictive like all of that nonsense. It's pretty clear by now that Varya doesn't care what's in your pants, as long as your legs have enough muscle to carry you to war in Their name. That said, I'm 99.9% sure we had dance lessons at some point, because Inquisitors invariably end up in various political and social situations, even if that's not their focus.
inb4 Ilya gets to be MVP and stop fire with ludicrous amounts of water using more ludicrous amounts of ether

So nobody knows this yet, because Ilya hasn't mentioned it, but it also looks like our Hearth system is gonna fail and Ragnar not be able to hold long enough. So do we get to burn before or after then?
Y'all have a fluent Russian speaker here and you don't use him?

Gospazha (English spelling of Slavic languages is weird) can be Mrs. Or ma'am. For lady as a title you could go with Baronessa, which is obviously a baroness, or Grafinya, which is a countess. I'm looking into land owning nobility now and I'll get back to you with results. @Draken

I was able to find a few things, its simply that Lady has lost a significant part of its association with birth and rulership and moved towards the level of respect and class the person is seen as owed. The word I was looking for may not exist. Still, thank you (and you know Russian??)
@DrakenLoved how much world-building you included in that post. Awesome job!

Will try to have everything updated before this weekend. Still have lots of writing to do.

Thank you very much! Unfortunately I slipped into acting like it was Victorian London or something. In an attempt to avoid that, I wasted 15 minutes trying to find a Slavic equivalent to the title of "Lady." (I failed.) I also noticed that the front page is missing the info dump you did on Magnagrad a while back. Could you please add it when you have the chance? Or perhaps we could start linking the posts.
