Also for monsters whose effects trigger when attacks are declared/have effects that when battle ends and 1 or both monsters are still standing.
Alucard never gets into things unwittingly.
Seems like you just put out a sentence or two detailing your thoughts and playing follow the leader.

Alexander groaned quietly to himself. What had happened? He was blinded briefly by an overwhelming light, but it quickly left him to shine on something else. Larion, Alexander realized, barely recognizing his companion with his still teary eyes and the excessive wrappings of chains. The light slowly began fading and a growing sense of dread filled all of Alexander. "W-wait!" he cried out, his voice a half gargled croak. His throat was dry and his lungs felt heavy, barely able to make noise. Struggling to pull himself towards the shackled lizard Alexander tried again, somewhat more intelligibly this time, but not much more than a whisper. "Wait!" Where in the nine was he? What was going on? His attempts to remember anything only resulted in drawing an utter blank. Alexander had left the inn to take Larion on a brief walk, there was on overwhelming burst of pain through their connection, some strange entity, then... Nothing. Was Larion shackled because he was infected? Was... Alexander himself infected?

I'd say it looks good. Has versatility in several archtypes and what not so why not.
Eh I'm cool with w.e Rewriting it would obviously took more time and I don't think it would affect our actions enough that things would've gone terribly different. They could've conceivably gone the same way if we'd reacted properly, so I'd be more interested in continuing.
