One moment, let me check. I may need to edit.

Ssarak nodded to Alaira. She had been searching around the surface of the camp, so he supposed he could trust her assessment. "Very well. Perhaps you can...find a way to aid Darius in searching the underground portion. He could use a light source; perhaps you could ignite something with your magic, as long as it does not create too large of a flame. I cannot sense any more thoughts or wards other than ourselves, so the caves should be safe."

He found a reasonably open space before turning his head back to Alaira and Darius. "I shall fly back to the others. Try to have what you intend to salvage ready as soon as possible. We may need to move quickly."

With a running start, Ssarak leaped up, powering himself into the air until he could catch the wind above the trees. He glided wherever he could to conserve energy, but speed was his primary goal. He had paid enough attention to landmarks around the carriage that it would not be difficult to locate it once he was upon it. As expected, the direct flight to the carriage did not take long, though the return trip to the camp, with the carriage, would take considerably longer.

As he landed in the closest clear area to the carriage, Ssarak spotted the evidence of the battle that had taken place in the form of the bodies scattered around. At first, fear took hold of him, causing him to rush to the carriage, but his mind calmed as soon as he saw Meirin, Lyn, and the caravan master all apparently free from harm. It seemed their plan of hiding the carriage had failed, but at the very least, he now had an idea of why the bandit reinforcements had not arrived back at camp.

Ssarak looked at Meirin as he approached, his helmet hiding his smile. "Well, it seems you were correct in your worries; I am glad you convinced me of them. Are you and everyone else unharmed?" He asked, though looking at the caravan master, he guessed that he might be impatient for an update. "Our attack on the bandits' main camp was a success. We eliminated their leadership, and the rest scattered. No casualties on our side. We should be able to bring the carriage through now. There may also be some items of value we could load onto the carriage when we pass through, if we have time."
"The cork itself should be what holds most of the scent, not the interior of the vial. After all, the one would need to touch it directly to use the poison." Meesei responded. "You could try to isolate the scent from that instead, so you could do whatever tests you need on the poison separately. I even have something to which to compare it." She added, carefully pulling the rag from her satchel by the same corner from which the others had handled it.

"This rag carries Harriet's scent, along with mine and the same individual who found the vial. There were also some others who handled it, but I ensured they only touched this small corner. I understand that it may not be possible to find anything, but I would like to try. If you need any more supplies, I would be happy to gather them while you start on the tests for the poison." She offered. The ability to link the vial directly to Harriet through her scent, or alternatively, to show that it was planted, was information that could be of great use in the investigation. Even if it was not guaranteed to work, it was worth an attempt.

After a few moments, it became clear that the vampire would not be getting back up. From all that Ssarak could tell, the impact had killed him, so he finally pulled his weapon away and performed a more thorough search of the body and his belongings. The journal seemed to be the item with the most potential usefulness, though a quick glance through revealed that not all of it was was written in a form he could easily understand. There would be time later to look through it in greater detail, so he packed it away and continued with his search. The sword, while it did not seem to be magical, did have runes inscribed upon it. The runes could have meaning, and if nothing else, the blade itself would be valuable, so he tied it and its scabbard to his own belt at his waist. As well, he took the coin purse and the ingredients for similar reasons. His search of the body itself produced little of note except for a tattoo on his chest. If it was a symbol, Ssarak did not recognize it, but he made a mental note of it regardless.

Ssarak headed back to the bandit camp to meet back up with Alaira and Darius. Despite their successes so far, they were still not finished. They had to move the carriage through safely, and there was still the matter of the reinforcements they had learned about while listening to the bandits. However, they had no way of knowing how long it would take for those bandits to return, and they did not have unlimited time. Ssarak reasoned that it might be best to move the carriage through sooner rather than later as, at the very least, most of the enemy force had been depleted, and they might be able to frighten away any reinforcements with proper intimidation.

"I believe now may be the time to move the caravan through. There is still that group away from camp we overheard the bandits talking about, but we have no way of knowing how long they will take to return. I can fly back to the others quickly, update them on our progress, and see if the caravan master wishes to go ahead and move through. In the meantime, it might benefit us for you two to search the camp more thoroughly, particularly the underground portion. There may be information to be found in the cave or, at the very least, items of value. The caravan master may be more willing to forgive the problems we have faced if we can help to make him more coin. Any kind of trade goods or other valuables you can find would be helpful." Ssarak suggested. Alaira certainly would not want to search the caves, but she could always stay on the surface while Darius searched underground.
Another question just came to mind. How does mineral rarity in Tien compare to Earth? Salt, in the ancient world, was a very valuable commodity. Roman soldiers sometimes had their wages paid in salt.
Alright, I'll start writing now.

Also, just for clarification, the weapon he found was a longsword. You meant that its size was appropriate for Ssarak to use in one hand, but was two handed for a human, correct? (Using the terminology appropriately, a longsword is designed for two-handed use).
"Okay Sabine, I trust you." Meesei said as she produced the vial from her satchel. "I will not lie, there is always the possibility of violence within the clan, but that is looking less likely now than it was before. I offered the explanation that Harriet could have been magically influenced by Clavicus Vile into becoming a traitor, as that is a definite possibility. It is something I intend to test for once the trial has concluded. Earlier, there was a fight that was about to break out between two groups, but they calmed once that possibility was brought to mind. It may be enough to prevent large-scale violence at the trial itself, even if Harriet, or anyone else, tries to instigate it."

Meesei looked at the small amount of poison in the vial. Circumstance pointed to it being the same poison used in the waterskin, but there was no way to know what Sabine and Carana might learn about it. If it was indeed more concentrated than what they had found in the waterskin, then it might provide even more insight into the substance. They could even get a better sense of what it was made from. However, she did not want Sabine to feel that success was vital. "Just...try not to worry yourself so greatly, Sabine. This test could yield useful information, but do not think that the murder will go unsolved if you fail. There is other evidence, so you do not need to stress yourself to such a degree. Actually, there is one more thing you could test that might be even more useful. The only people who have handled this vial are myself, the traitor, and another individual who has been helping me. The cork likely holds the scent of the traitor, but the scent of the poison overpowers it. If there is something you could do that would isolate those scents, then we could directly link the vial to the traitor."
I would like to make a post, but there are some things I need to figure out. Namely, is it a good time to move the carriage through? I remember there were supposed to be reinforcements later but...I'd really prefer not to fight anything else. What is going on with that?
The estimated duration of the fight was extended by the use of biotics on both sides, as they were able to create biotic barriers to serve as cover in the largely open room. However, once hostiles engaged from the second level, the situation deteriorated rapidly. The allied soldiers on the far side of the room, unable to maneuver or escape, were being cut down from above. The diplomats who were too far from the door were mostly unprotected, though the enemy seemed to be attempting to capture, rather than kill them. Those closer to the door were also being targeted, though they had a greater chance of escape.

Avatar maintained suppressing fire as much as possible, along with a Turian who had taken cover on the opposite side of the door. However, after only a few moments, another, recognizably different group of five hostiles arrived on the second floor, opposite from the exit. Unlike most of the hostiles, they were uniformed, and filed into the room with much more coordinated precision than the local guards. At their head was the Asari Avatar saw in the lounge, who quickly instructed her soldiers to take up positions along the railings. Unlike the other local guards, who were acting without apparent central organization, the Asari’s team waited for her order, which came only an instant later.

“Lock it down!” The Asari shouted, her gaze fixed on the open door. Avatar directed its combat drone to harass the leader and, at the same time, opened fire with its shotgun. The range at which it was engaging did diminish the effective impact of the shotgun blasts by approximately 23%, but even so, it detected less instability in her barriers than it would have expected. As well, she spotted the holographic orb immediately and dispatched it with a brief blast of biotic energy, before it could enter the range of its primary attack.

The Asari’s soldiers were coordinated in their attack. As Avatar focused on their leader, the Batarian to her left fired a single shot from a high-powered rifle which found its mark on Avatar’s shields and depleted them immediately. The Geth was already ducking back into its cover position, but the Turian on the Asari’s right side had been ready to exploit the opportunity. He carried a semi-automatic marksman rifle, the first shot of which hit Avatar’s left side in a spot analogous to the abdomen. The round punched a hole roughly six centimeters in diameter through its platform, causing a momentary loss of power to its left leg that threw it off balance. It began to fall, but fortunately, its momentum caused it to fall back into cover.

Avatar’s damage control efforts were immediate. It rerouted power around the damaged area through secondary circuits to regain control of its leg, then isolated and cut off the damaged tubes which were leaking conductive fluid out of the breach. Its self-repair systems also went into effect, though it could not fully-repair the hole without doing so manually. Avatar was again in full-control of its platform by the time it hit the ground, and it was well within acceptable operational capacity, but for any allied forces or noncombatants to survive, the door would need to be locked down quickly.
