I've been on here since before the fall, way back when I was a middle schooler. It seems a lot more slow paced on here then it once was. I'm also old now soooo maybe that is it.

Background: Lana was born in Kembre, the largest oasis city in the vast Calliope desert. Her mother Enid, and father Maksim, had only gotten married when Enid found she was pregnant with his child, not for any sort of love, just responsibility, and then Lana was born. Enid was never the type to be a mother, or wife, having much more fun dancing, drinking, and seducing men at taverns. Being home with a baby, and doing chores was not her cup of tea. When Lana was two in a half, Maksim had had enough of it all, finding Lana home alone when he came home from work, among other things was not how he wanted his flesh and blood raised. He took Lana with him to live with his cousin just outside the city, in the little town called Vaters. They stayed there for a few months, but Enid came banging on the doors at all hours of the night demanding Lana back, and Maksim was to head off to battle in a few weeks, his cousins did not want to take care of a little toddler.

Maksim ended up giving Lana back to Enid, because he had no other option, and he left for battle. Three months later Enid was sick and tired of being a mother yet again, and wanted Maksim to come back from battle, to take Lana off her hands, but instead she found out that Maksim had died in battle, axe to the chest. Not knowing what to do with a little toddler, she Dropped three year old Lana off to live with sister Enid's older sister Ivanna, in her home village of Roon. Enid was a native Dragoth, but she hated the traditional lifestyle with a passion, and wanted to stay in Kembre city, and be rid of all responsibilities. So from age three to fifteen, Lana lived with her Aunt Ivanna, Uncle Victor, and two cousins Olga, and Trina, in the little desert village of Roon, home to only Dragoth People. Lana even came to call them ma and pa, and considered her cousin to be her own sisters.

Growing up in Roon was like a little adventure within its self, the canyons, and caves being home to many dragons, and magical creatures. The rocky cactus land always had lizards, and snakes lounging around in the sunshine, and was even home to some rare man eating flowers. Roon is a native Dragoth Village, also known as a moving village, and every five years the people and village move to a new location in the Calliope desert. Lana would play in the jungle like forests with her cousins, and with the other village children, climbing trees, racing, hunting, and picking cactus needles. She went swimming in the jungle Lagoon practically every day, and during the summer would go looking for fire, and moon stones with her family up in the volcano mountains. During winter she would sit by the fire with her family, and paint, or help her aunt with weaving on the loom, as her pa sang songs, and told stories, but most of all she loved to read about all the different plants and animals around the world. She got letters from her mother every few months, sometimes a package came with the letters, and Lana would always open it gleefully, only to see another fluffy dress or fancy hair ornament. She always wrote her mother two letters back, and would send along pressed flowers, and pieces of fabric she had embroidered.

When she was eleven, her mother came to see her for the first time since she had sent to live in Roon. Her mother had come not see Lana specifically, instead Enid was dying from some venereal disease she had had for the last few years, and only wanted pity from her family, which she got none of. Enid died a few weeks later, a traditional Dragoth funeral was held, and Lana mourned for the mother she never knew. She painted two of her mothers death beads with flowers, and watched as Aunt Ivanna hung enids death bead chain high up in a large tree.

When she was thirteen she found a dragon with a broken wing in the canyon. She helped mend the dragons wing, and the dragon flew off, only to comeback every day to see her. Lana and the dragon became friends. The Dragon later chose to be bond to Lana, and with that become her dragon, who she named Libellule. When Lana was fifteen had her Masha Ceremony. Later that year she decided that she wanted to see the world and travel all around, so she set off on the back of Libellule. She got jobs as a messenger, flying letters, items, and secrets all around, and that is what she has been doing for the past few years, along with going on her own little adventures, typically resulting in stupid and dangerous situations.

WOW. My post is pathetic !! I will do better next time!!!! :D
Rupert had chosen to dance with this particular woman for the simple fact that she stood out in all her simplicity. Among the Lords and ladies dancing and mingling about in all their fancy garb and jewels, she stood alone dressed in a simple mask and gown. They danced, and as he looked at her face he tried to place a name to it. Brunette, petite, and what he could see of her face, some would call pretty. No lady he knew of came to mind, and this was a first for him, to not be able to pinpoint the name of the pretty lady of Edwards’s court. Perhaps she was a guest of someone’s. Rupert was quite a bit taller than his dance partner, but then again he was always on the taller side compared to all the other men around.

“So many I have the honor of knowing my lady’s name, or should I guess?” He asked curiously as they danced together.
The dance ended, the masked King kissed Johanna’s hand, and quickly disappeared into the crowd. Johanna smiled to herself, happy to have been first to dance with the King, not that most knew which fancy dressed Lord the King was tonight. She found her friend lady Beatrice standing next to the table, with a look of longing in her eyes as she watched the Archduke Arn begin to dance with the fair-haired lady. Lady Beatrice had basically been infatuated with him since first time she met him, many months ago, but she had yet to even speak to him once.

“Beatrice my dear, once he’s done dancing, you should put yourself in his way, might he notice your beauty and instantly fall for you, as you did he.” Johanna said for only Beatrice to hear.

“I could never be as bold as you Johanna, and I’m not at all suited for him, I am only the daughter of a lowly baronet. I've also told you many times, that I’m to be married next spring to Sir Calvin.” Beatrice replied to Johanna’s pointless encouragement.

As Johanna and Beatrice chatted more, sipping wine, and giving their opinions on the many gowns worn tonight, the lady Veronica dressed in men’s clothes came and asked Johanna to dance.

“Why is that you Lady Veronica? That is quite the costume you have on. A dance sounds just fine with me.” Johanna said smiling and trying not to laugh. Masquerades seem to bring out the fun in people, and Johanna was certainly enjoying this entertaining night. They walked to the dance area.
I'll have my post up later today. I had a case of food poisoning yesterday...raw oysters are a bad idea.

What is Rupert's sister like?

Age: 23

Name: Lady Edith

Personality: Edith appears calm, reserved and regal. Fond of reading, and walking in the gardens. She is sensible, polite, and charitable. Sensitive towards other people and their well-being. Some times she came off as aloof and cold, but she is otherwise pleasant and kind. To people she loves and knows best she is the motherly, loyal, good listener type.

Johanna wore a gold gown trimmed in red, the sleeves and collar beaded with pearls. Her hair she had styled in the Italian court fashion; lightly pulled back in an intricate braid bun, with soft curls framing her face and neck. She wore a mask made of gold, created to appear as fish scales, bringing out her celadon eyes, alas her marigold colored hair gave away who she was, even when hiding her face.

Masquerades were a favorite of many, including Johanna. Dancing and energetic activities were what she enjoyed most; and sedentary things such as needlework and mass board her greatly. Lords and ladies dance together, as laughter and chatting mixed into the sound of the lively music. She had arrived, with her two dear friends, Lady Beatrice, and Lady Charlotte.

“I would be delighted, my Lord.” She replied with a smile, to the silver, black and white clad gentlemen. She placed her hand in his, and made their way to the dance position. Taking in his features that were not masked, she recognized his eyes and smile as that of King Edward’s. Of course she would not let on, that she had guessed his identity so quickly. The King had a particularly handsome smile, that she knew all too well from her many years admiring him at court.

The dance began as the music started. This particular dance she was quite fond of; she being rather graceful, and fluid with her movements. Parts of the dance, where their faces drew close and their eyes met, she would gaze confidently into his eyes, rather than modestly glancing and bat her lashes like she had been taught was proper. Other than her bright red hair, and beautiful reputation, people knew well of Johanna’s bubbly and poised personality, that made her a delight to be around.
Rupert was dressed in green and gray silks, his mask painted to match. With a chalice in one hand he sipped his wine, as he charmingly flirted with the group of ladies. A tap on his shoulder made him turn his head, but no one was there. He raised his eyebrow for a moment in question, and then happily went back to chatting with the ladies. He did like to dance, but he preferred specific ones to others, the one let you closer to your partner were his favorite.

This was the fifth ball since Edward was crowned King, and the sweating sickness had subsided in England, and it was still rather odd to see so many missing from court, due to the thousands of death over the past year. Eleven of his servants had died, as did his eldest daughter Margaret’s governess, Jacqueline Devereaux. Luckily his sister, Lady Edith, who had caught the illness, had survived through it. She was also at the masquerade today, dressed in midnight blue.

Taking his leave from the group of ladies, he scanned the room for his cousin King Edward, spotting him dancing with the Countess of Warwick, her red hair easily recognizable. He rolled his eyes, hoping Edward was only dancing her with out of politeness, he’d rather Edward be dancing with Edith. Many men desired the lady Johanna for her beauty and charisma, even Rupert had had a short time many years ago where he was secretly and infatuated with her. But Rupert did not see her as future queen material, her being to assertive and willful for his taste. Rupert was fond of brunettes, who were obedient, gentle, and dainty in manner. Making his way over to the other side of the ball room, he placed his drink on a servant’s empty platter, and walked over to a pretty wallflower, a lady in a simple blue velvet gown, with a black mask.

Offering his hand, he asked in his typical clear voice. “May I have the next dance, My Lady?”
