He told me after he gets the Soul Gem and revives Erza, he's going to find the Power and Mind gem and consume them. So he can get stronger and help us. And protect us. He told me other things, but made me promise to not tell them.

Apparently he's been like that for a long time. I guess everything that happened in quick succession kinda....got to him.
