Lucas listened as Claire waxed philosophical about her current life situation. "I mean...yeah," he responded, trying to find the words. "I don't think we have to know what we want to do yet, but...it's hard not to think about. After all, college is the last step before the real world."

He was relieved when she moved on to a less...deep conversation, as practical information was something he could at least wrap his head around. "That sounds nice," he replied. "I'll have to come visit sometime. Maybe it'll interrupt the day's monotony for you," he said, slightly grinning back at her. "It'll surely interrupt my day's monotony."

Upon her question about her job, he was a little surprised at himself for not really having an answer. "Well...I just wanted a job to get away. Didn't matter what it was. But I had the qualifications to lifeguard, and not being vultured by a boss sounded like a pretty sweet deal. After all, 95% of the time you do absolutely nothing in the chair. It gets really boring sometimes, but it gives you time to think." He paused. "Loving the beach and the water didn't hurt either," he added, grinning.

"Oh yeah...I guess it's my turn," he said, meekly smiling. "So what do you do when you're not at work in the coffee shop?" he finally asked after a brief ponder. "I mean...besides lie in the water all alone," he added playfully.

Xzayler, if all those posts before mine were jokes, then I apologize. This is the Internet, where intentions are often badly skewed, and from my perspective I couldn't tell that you were joking, and it seemed like you were frustrated with all the characters being so apparently OP, with a particular focus on mine, who isn't really OP at all. In addition, I had been reading a good amount of threads in other forums that were quite hateful and I really wanted to stop with a post, but restrained myself because nothing good ever comes with that. So I guess I was pretty frustrated going into it.

I could counter your rebuttals but I won't, since it's clear that this was just a case of miscommunication and nothing more.

And for the record, I don't have a problem with not being serious. But I also happen to enjoy being pedantic.

Shall we put this behind us and just enjoy ourselves?

Lucas listened to her explanation intently, thinking on how similar - and yet different - it was to his own story. It seemed like nothing could get her down if she still managed to laugh after telling that story.

"It's pretty similar to your story, actually,"] he replied. "Only my parents were underbearing. They never did anything, and before long I knew that I had to get it. So I got this lifeguard job and eventually saved enough money to get my own place. Conveniently enough, I found one right on the beach. It's been great ever since, if a little...uneventful. Even a lazy lifeguard like me gets restless eventually," he said, looking back at her.

"The beach never gets old, though. I do love it," he added.

Pondering for a moment, he delivered his next question. "So...you work at the coffee shop? I've never been there. What's it like?"

This is a science fiction roleplay. Perhaps you should have made characters to suit.

It is junk, yes, but it is science fiction junk. Not only that, but it is an entire planet full of said junk. It is perfectly plausible to be able to make a spacecraft from junk that came from whatever year in the distant future this roleplay is set in. You don't think that a civilization advanced enough to have colonized a galaxy and used an entire planet for a scrapyard wouldn't ever throw away parts good enough to puddle jump between planets? This is the equivalent of people going to a local junkyard today and being able to build a working car out of it. And that happens, routinely. Watch the show "Junkyard Wars". And those are just normal people.

Read the CS again. Chervo's personal ship is not a spacecraft, it is an aircraft. Not suitable for space flight. In addition, those turrets are only suitable for self-defense. While they exist, they are not very powerful or effective. They mainly serve as deterrents to thieves and looters. It's like a guy who owns a BB gun (as I do in real life). Could it deter potential thieves? Sure, but if one showed up with a pistol it would be useless. Also, the ship is tiny and not well armored. Should the craft ever actually engage in combat a with combat-oriented ship, it and Chervo would be obliterated very quickly. It's junk, remember?

Also, he has a plasma-shooting gunblade, yes. But I never specified that it was an all powerful superweapon capable of annihilating anyone. It's not. It's a workable weapon he made with junk, and he combined the melee weapon with the ranged weapon to be more efficient. It is suitable for self defense only, and that's how he uses it (and rarely has to).

So you are planning to make an alliance! Omg everyone! We must kill them before they meet.

Get it into your thick skull that it is not an alliance. In the previous roleplay, the Reaper took refuge in Chervo's vessel to escape the godmodding policewoman. The plan was to retire to Chervo's place, the Reaper would decide to not kill Chervo, maybe learn a thing or two on making stuff and such, and be on his way. This could not happen at all in this roleplay, for all I know. I don't puppet my characters around to meet a specific metagame goal. If it happens it does, if it doesn't it doesn't. Big deal.

Also, why would you care even if they did make an alliance? Chervo is peaceful. All he would be able to help the Reaper with is detecting things and maybe an improved weapon or something. The Reaper doesn't really need help in those areas as he is already a quite deadly assassin. Not much would change, and you can't tell me you expect all of our characters to be enemies with each other. Using the word "alliance" implies that you think the characters will join forces to attack the other characters. Why would we do that? The Reaper has no problem killing the targets he is given as is, and Chervo has no interest in attacking anybody.

I'll create a nuke from junk and drop it on Drive's char's airplane!

First of all, good luck finding a space to even launch it without killing your own character.

Second of all, if your character has the technological know-how to make a nuke from junk, there's no reason you can't. You'd decimate a lot of junk and maybe free up a more comfortable living space for those who were unaffected by the radiation. Science fiction. Traditional nukes are probably quite old-tech by now.

Let's see how well his armor will defend his from that!

So now Chervo's exoskeleton is impervious to everything but a nuke? When was that specified in the CS? The exoskeleton is there to keep harmful particles away from the body, as Tythonian bodies are easily prone to infection without it. Sure, it makes him more resistant to physical attacks (punches and the like) but he's still quite vulnerable. Also, the exoskeleton doesn't cover his entire body.

There was a section in the CS labeled "abilities", intending to allow characters at least one thing that they do exceptionally. If you choose not to give your characters any special abilities, that is your own fault and you can't get angry at other players for making characters that do. And for the record, I didn't fill out that section in Chervo's CS. He has no special abilities for his race. He's good with tech, problem solving and self defense. THAT'S IT.

The current GM, whose character was basically railroaded by the previous godmodding GM, has no problem with my character. Neither should you. Especially since the Reaper and at least some of the other characters in the RP are far more deadly in combat situations than Chervo will ever be.

Plus, and this bears repeating to you a third time, Chervo is peaceful. We are not all warmongers hellbent on killing the other characters. All of our characters are trying to eke out an existence in the Junkyard, each having personal goals. Axel happens to be an assassin. Chervo is just a scavenger, and you're lambasting me for creating an overpowered character? Come on.

I want to enjoy RPing here with you and the other players we have so far, so can you please stop whining and we can put this behind us?

Not really an alliance. My character was initially the Reaper's assassination target in the old RP, and I'm assuming that will happen again. My character is sort of famous/infamous? in the Junkyard.

Tythonians

Name: Tythonians
Homeworld: Tythonia
Appearance: Tythonians are large, imposing humanoid beings with dark blue skin typically covered in an armor-like natural exoskeleton. A typical fully-grown male will stand about seven feet tall, appearing tall and lean (minus the exoskeleton) to a human. The dark blue head houses two light blue eyes and appears to have more in common with a bird’s head than a human’s, at least in shape and features.

Lifespan: The lifespan of a Tythonian is extremely varied, and approximately equivalent to human lifespan multiplied by the power of ten. Typically living to be about 700, the typical range is 500-900 years. The longest-ever living Tythonian lived for 1,217 years.
Aging: Tythonians age extremely slowly, due in part to their biological strength and due in part to their hard exoskeletons, which protect them from most harmful rays and particles.
Childbirth: The usual way.

Culture:

The Tythonian Refuge Galactica, informally known as “The Refuge” and known in formal documents as “TRG” or “Tythonian Refuge”, is a sprawling, galaxy-wide technocrat utopia. Technology is everything, and while the Tythonian Tyco (the prevailing currency) is certainly influential, the exchange of technology is often equally or more valuable. The culture is typically divided into three classes: Low Tythonians, Middle Tythonians, and High Tythonians. Low Tythonians are the working class, providing the manufacture of technology when it isn’t automated and comprising the enlisted ranks of the Tythonian Galactic Defense Force (TGDF). A fearsomely powerful military, the TGDF serves only to defend the galaxy and its individual worlds against potential invaders and thieves from other galaxies, as the Tythonians are primarily an expansionist, pacifist race. Their elite troops, the Tythonian Knights, are among the most formidable soldiers in the known universe. The Middle Tythonian class is, predictably, the middle class, and typically is entirely devoted to either developing new technology or comprising the officer ranks of the TGDF. High Tythonians are comprised of administration as well as the most prolific technology developers.

At the end of their relatively brief educations, Tythonians are required to pass a rigorous general aptitude test in many different fields, including problem solving, use of the most complicated and advanced technology, logic, and self-defense via martial arts and firearms. Although Tythonians are a peaceful race, they are also extremely paranoid and wary of other races, and are prepared for invasion at all times.

Language: Tythonians have an indigenous language known as Tythonian Standard or simply Standard.

Biology: Tythonians must rest half of the day to recharge their overclocked brains (as even the lowest class Tythonian is still constantly tinkering with and developing new things), and they require a very small amount of food and water to survive. They are Petrubium-based life forms, not carbon-based, and their blood is a viscous – and corrosive outside of their bodies – light blue substance.

Powers: Tythonians’ primary feature is their extraordinarily intelligent brains, which allow them to complete education in little time and devote the rest of their lives to developing technology, a cause that the entire civilization takes part in. They are able to adapt easily to many different technology-related challenges using very little materials – they are the MacGyvers of this universe. In addition, they can assess situations and solve problems quickly, and have infallible, Vulcan-like logic. Due to their rigorous education they also appear very adept in martial arts and shooting, but it is not an ability as much as a byproduct of their paranoid society. Due to their exoskeletons they are not particularly agile or fast, making them more on the tank side of the tank-ninja spectrum. This motion deficiency causes them to rely heavily on vehicles for mobility.

History: The Tythonians are an ancient race belonging to a galaxy far from the one the Junkyard or the rest of galactic civilization is located. As they developed, they flourished under the master hand of technology, soon colonizing worlds other than their own. Although many different races flourished on other galaxies, none did on theirs, leaving them to quickly colonize the entire galaxy.

Chervo Ussia

Name: Chervo Ussia, known throughout the Junkyard as “The Scavenger”
Age: 547
Gender: male
Race: Tythonian

Appearance: Typical Tythonian (see above). Tall, dark blue, hard exoskeleton. When in public, he wears a faded Tythonian brown overcoat that extends to his ankles and all the way up his neck with its high collar and a similarly faded old brown fedora he found in the junk.
Personality: Chervo is quiet, paranoid and calculating. Every Tythonian has a single area they are passionate about other than technology; Chervo’s is speed. He is a complete speed junkie.

Abilities: (such as skills and powers more unique to the char then to the race)
Strengths: Tythonian intelligence and natural armor.
Weaknesses: Tythonian paranoia and slow movement.

How did he end up here: Chervo tinkered. A LOT. He tinkered on spacecraft he built in his garage, trying to make them faster and faster. Eventually, he had a breakthrough and figured out how to build a working wormhole drive, that would send the user to another galaxy – or further, potentially. Being the speed junkie that he is, he wanted to test it himself (and Tythonians are generally expected to test their own tech.). The drive worked – but the course computer was damaged in the initial jump to the wormhole that it redirected the craft to a place very far from where Chervo wanted to end up. That place was the Junkyard.

Occupation: In the Refuge he was a typical Middle Tythonian technology developer by day, and tinkerer by night. In the Junkyward he is eking out a survival while slowly attempting to build another wormhole drive ship to take him back to his home galaxy.

Equipment: Chervo has an aircraft that he built from scraps upon arrival to get himself around the planet. Since the interior of the Junkyard (where he resides) is inhospitable and covered with looters, thieves and criminals, he had to make the craft very fast, very agile and as undetectable as possible. Nicknamed the “Icebreaker” due to its wedge shape and ability to push debris out of the way by splitting it down the middle if necessary (like an icebreaker would with ice), this craft is a marvel of scrap engineering. It can only seat one as most of its diminutive size is dedicated to the cargo bay where Chervo can carry the equipment he scavenges. The craft is able to be put into “stealth mode”, where the engines make no sound and give off no heat signature in exchange for drastically reduced speed and maneuverability. The engines, when not in stealth mode, are still not very noticeable in both noise level and heat signature. The craft has some defensive armament including countermeasures, an automated swivel turret and front cannons, but it is nothing too powerful (or noticeable). Its main party trick is its sensor array suite and onboard computer that can detect any piece of equipment Chervo specifies within five miles of itself, and Chervo uses this extensively to scavenge for parts. His ship allows him to come home unscathed, unfollowed and with equipment. Initially he encountered lots of trouble from runts attempting to steal from, rob or murder him, but after several run-ins he became largely unbothered.

Everyone has to live somewhere in the Junkyard, even if it’s the least safe place you can be as you aren’t moving. Chervo found a derelict aircraft carrier at the bottom of a lake covered in other wrecks that had been undiscovered and made it his home, deflooding it in the process. His home is another feat of scrap engineering, having working power through the nuclear engines on board without giving off any signature of any sort. To an outsider, even with advanced sensors, the aircraft carrier (and the rest of the lake it’s in) is completely lifeless. It is in this aircraft carrier (the hangars, particularly) that he is slowly manufacturing a large, wormhole drive-equipped starship to take him out of the lake, out of the atmosphere and back to his home galaxy. The lake is also a fair bit away from the main markets of the region of the planet, which makes his journey in longer and more harrowing, but the only time he needs to go to the market is when he needs to purchase his monthly supply of food, which is when he is the most vulnerable.

He carries a single weapon, a collapsible gun blade (a sword that’s also a gun) that he scrounged from parts. It is an effective firearm, shooting overcharge-able plasma bolts while featuring a blade made up very sharp and strong lightweight material.

Hey guys, busy day for me. My CS is coming along nicely and will be posted shortly. Drake, it's basically an abridged version of the CS from the last one, so you'll be familiar. We should have Drake and Chervo continue what they started last time. :P

OKAY, another IC post up, moving us along. One bad guy left to take down, and then we can move on to a bit of IC interaction and get an idea of what's going on from here, and a bit more into the plot, rather than just randomly shooting things down. In other news, there's a few people who haven't posted for ages in character. If they don't post by Wednesday, I'll be removing a few people from the character list.

Sauron's in Berlin or something, he posted about it before.

I will probably reintroduce Chervo. The problem is I don't remember much about his CS except his name, his strengths, and the fact that he was blue. But I'll see what I can do.
