Carmen

Carmen frowned as Lily apologized for explaining her problems to her.

"Lily," she said, "don't do that." She sighed as Lily faced the wall.

"Lily, if you can't talk to your own roommate about your problems, who can you talk to?" She walked over to where Lily was, sitting down next to her.

"It's what I'm here for."

"You need somebody to explain your problems to. Pent up emotions never helped anybody...which is why I never hide mine." She paused. "...for better or for worse, perhaps unfortunately. In any case, you called out to me for help before we even knew we were roommates. I have no idea why you thought I of all people could help, but here we are. And now, I'm your roommate. Which, if the books I've read are correct, means that I have a duty to ensure your well-being," she explained. "Which I'm happy to do. I'm a good listener."

"Now why don't you turn around and talk to me?"

Carmen raised one eyebrow, finally turning her head to face Lily. "Memories and size? That sounds like a little more than nothing," she opined.

She saw Lily look at her three pictures. It caused her to think about her own past...she didn't have anyone to put in a picture frame. That was totally fine with her, but...having those kinds of memories to look back on seemed...nice. Perhaps her memories were being made right now. She resolved to not overthink it and turned her thoughts back to Lily, realizing only then that she had left Lily with an uncomfortably long silence after her last question.

"OH! Um...sorry. My mind wanders sometimes, you know," she explained. "I...was sort of all over the place," she began, trying to think of the words to describe it. "Socializing, playing background music, stopping a fight, buying clothes, sitting at a bar, putting a guy in a wedding dress, annihilating guys with a foam cannon...you know, the usual," she said, slightly chuckling. "It's actually remarkable how much things calmed down by the time we ran into each other," she said. "In the dojos, I mean."

"And yet," Carmen responded to Lily's statement about the world they lived in, "I still get surprised all the time. I really should just learn to expect everything." She thought back to all the various ridiculous occurrences she had been a part of, shaking her head at herself with a little grin. "I really am a creature of habit, it seems," she said, chuckling a little.

Carmen stopped sitting up, letting herself fall back on the bed completely sprawled out on it. "Ohhhhhh..." she let out almost a moan of delight at the feeling. Now that she thought about it, she hadn't actually done anything but stand and walk since before the crossdressing race began several hours ago. Her body had sort of completely forgotten about sitting...or resting.

"Lily," she called out to her roommate (being as she couldn't see her, looking straight up at the ceiling). "What have you been up to, anyway? I've almost never seen you, even since I arrived at the Academy."

"A...shopping trip, you say?"

Carmen seemed to almost prepare for her next words.

"That would literally make my life," she said, as overdramatic as ever. "We should absolutely do that," she stated. Her mind seemed to be racing with all the possibilities of a shopping trip - her eyes looked positively enamored with the idea.

Carmen continued to be her usual dramatic self at Lily's statements, which practically invited it.

"Ugh," she said, "it would be just dreadful," she surmised about going to a normal human school. "Imagine...having to be in classes all day. I can barely handle one class," she said, looking like she was actually repulsed by the thoughts her mind was giving her. "And worse! Nobody would have any abilities," she thought out loud. "I mean, I wouldn't think any less of them, but...I do love watching other people here use their gifts." After another pause, she concisely summarized her opinion on the matter: "I do think I would go insane."

Now what has happened?

Basically what Destiny said.

Beach Olympics happened. Insane water balloon dodgeball fight followed by a crossdressing obstacle course.

One tiny timeskip later and the characters head over to three training dojos (physical, ranged and magic) to train.

Not much training occurs. In the physical dojo, Crash gets beaten up by Tora and he, Kathy and Carmen defeat a legion of fabric dummies controlled by one of the teachers (Yutaka).

People shoot some arrows in the ranged dojo. People shoot some guns at the gunrange.

Matt guts clung to a lot by Margaret. Krashy happens. (<3) An intense Andromeda-Zivon convo happens. Lily has just had a breakdown as Xanthus showed up, and is now in her cabin with Carmen.

That's...pretty much it. You could have your characters show up anywhere, really. "Training" is more of a hangout, so you could join the ranged dojo chatting group or have them actually train. Soonish we're going to timeskip to evening to start playing some games (King's Game, mainly), so you could wait for that if you wanted as well.
It's freakin' past 7 am. What on Earth is wrong with me.

Lucas was taken aback at how different her mood seemed when she turned over. He was at least relieved that she wasn't hurt.

"That makes two of us," he said, shrugging, referring to her smooth comment.

Groan...

His internal monologue continued.

Hey. That was good.

I'm not admitting anything.

Lucas was a little surprised at her next statement.

"You? Not used to compliments? Come on," he said. "There's no way!" Before he went too far with the compliments, he checked himself. "...In any case, I'm just glad you didn't get hurt," he continued, still sort of in lifeguard mode. "I would've never forgiven myself."
The woman who introduced herself as Zola piqued Miyoshi's interest. "So I'm not the only one who names her plane, huh?" she said, referring to Zola's "Ghost of the Straits" namedrop. "Glad to hear it. I'm Miyoshi, by the way," she said, bowing to Zola.

A handful more pilots joined the conversation, each of which Miyoshi greeted with a warm smile and a bow. She only knew her squadronmates by their squadron numbers and aircraft, and even then her knowledge was not great. She would have to learn all of their names and numbers so she could begin to associate "Excalibur whatever" with a face.

With all of the hubbub and excitement surrounding the mission, the harrowing landing on the new carrier, the guided tour and finally the chance to finally sit down and talk with the rest of her squadron, Miyoshi had forgotten all about her hunger, and when her flight lead said the words "mess hall", her stomach gave a harmonious growl. Her eyes went wide in surprise, and instantly returned to normal size as she relaxed. "That sounds...excellent," she responded to her flight lead.

Just then another pilot came in, one who identified himself as new. She wondered why he hadn't made the mission, but in this world and this occupation there were a million possible reasons. Nonetheless, Miyoshi gave her traditional greeting. The others are probably getting tired of that already, she thought, immediately returning her thoughts to her ravenous stomach.

Lily's hilariously over-the-top reaction to the admittedly similarly hilarious situation meant that Carmen couldn't stop herself from laughing too. Usually she was the one making the over-the-top reactions to everything. From what she could tell Lily was a quiet girl. "When you walked up to my cabin, I nearly lost it," she explained. "What are the odds?!"

She smiled as Lily walked over and sat next to her. "It's certainly nice to meet you too, Lily," she responded. "Though, I'm surprised you were surprised that these were mine," she said, looking over at all of her things. "I am who I am, after all," she said, with a perfectly overdramatic flip of the hair.

She pondered for a moment, and then came to a sudden realization. "I read your return letter, by the way," she said, referring to the reply Lily had written to Carmen's letter in the room in the Academy. "I knew your name sounded familiar!"
I knew it. I freaking knew it. You stupid idiot! I knew you would mess this up! Now look...one innocent compliment and she's gone running. Face it dude, you suck at romance. You suck at everything.

Lucas was mentally slapping himself over and over again, having an internal argument with himself.

It wasn't even supposed to be a thing! It was just a compliment...

You know full well that there's no such thing as "just a compliment", moron. You botched it. C'mon dude, you barely met her!

Ok. Did you even see what the scene looked like? It was perfect. Man, it was perfect...

SHUT UP. Look.

Lucas let his crestfallen face look up to see the girl running away. "So much for that," he said in the most pitiful voice ever.

And then the girl extravagantly tripped over herself and landed face first in the sand. He could have almost laughed...but then she didn't get up.

"Oh for crying out-"

Second chance.

Shut UP!

"Claire?!"

He sprang into lifeguard mode without thinking, sprinting over to her. He hesitated when he got to her...she probably didn't want to be touched at this point. So he went with the verbal approach.

"Claire? Are you okay?! Look, I'm...sorry for what I said, I was just...um..." his voice trailed off. "Please don't be hurt..."
