"I can see into your soul...literally."

Name: Nirvana
Age: 22
Gender: Female

Hair Color: white
Eye Color: yellow
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 130 lbs.
Build: athletic

Cyborg Amputations:

Eyes. Her cybernetic eyes allow her to function extraordinarily effectively as a reconnaissance scout. She can see in normal, night, thermal, X-ray and other forms of vision, has a 100% photographic memory, has a heads up display, and can project images for others to see, including her mind's eye.

Distinguishing Features:

- Permanent red face mark coming down from the left eye (see pic). I wouldn't call it a tattoo...I'd call it an artistically inflicted scar, courtesy of Black Claw Ink Inc.
- Natural scar running diagonally down the entire length of her back. This was attained by repeated brutal floggings with a whip. In an interesting twist, the whip that gave her the scar is the whip she now uses herself.

Skills:

- The Way of the Fist: Her "training" as part of the Black Claw program was oriented mainly on various martial arts disciplines.
- Silent Steps: While it is difficult for her to be visually stealthy due to her loud white hair, she can adeptly move quickly in complete silence.
- Cool Whip: After being released by Amadeus, she found an experimental long whip in a back room that she uses (rather ruthlessly) as her main weapon.

Strengths:

- Ghost Recon: Her cybernetic eyes and enhanced senses allow her to sense and see far more than a normal human (including through walls), making her the perfect forward scout.
- Reflex Shot Award (that's a 3D Pinball Space Cadet reference): The main biological enhancement she was given during her time with the Black Claw was superhuman reflexes.
- Painkiller: Very high pain tolerance (physical and mental).

Weaknesses:

- Short Range: Her range is only as far as her whip can travel. While it's an impressive distance for a melee weapon, she still has no defense against projectile weapons and can easily be dispatched by them.
- Fragile: She has an extremely high pain tolerance, but as only her eyes are cybernetic she is only additionally resistant to face damage compared to a normal human.
- Limbo: Her mind has been so warped that she can be persuaded easily. When on a mission she knows where she stands, but in general conversation she is very gullible.

Personality: Distant. Aloof.

Background:

Nirvana was originally named Nayana, a name meaning "beautiful eyes" in Hebrew. She didn't lead a particularly charming life before she was taken by the Black Claw. She was born with defective eyes, and as she grew older her parents, who didn't much care for her, never got her the medical treatment she needed. As she went through high school, she began to go blind completely. And just when her life seemingly couldn't get any worse, she was surrounded by strange men and taken away one day while she was sitting alone at a picnic table in a park.

Truth be told though, if any of the subjects' capture was anything resembling a good thing for all involved (not just the Black Claw), she was the subject who got it the best. Her uncaring parents were rid of her, the program got a good subject, and she was made to see again. Of course, it wasn't all rosy once she was within the Claw's clutches. She was experimented and operated on regularly with no anesthetic in sight - the scientists and doctors almost treating it like a game. As a result, she built up an extraordinarily high pain tolerance. In the process, the scientists started referring to her as Nirvana in casual conversation amongst themselves for no particular reason, and the name stuck to the point where Nirvana forgot her real name.

Eventually relegating her as a lost cause to the project due to her perceived limited usefulness, the scientists continued to experiment on her to try things for the other subjects. She was eventually placed in storage and forgotten about, remaining alive through the facility's automated meal deliveries via vacuum tubes. From her storage chamber she witnessed Amadeus wreak havoc on the Black Claw, leaving her and the other subjects in storage in the facility that she could see to wither away. Her life seemed at an end yet again, until Amadeus returned and found her. When told about Novum and their mission to eradicate the Black Claw, she immediately accepted it in the oddest way possible: a brutally simple "ok" was all that she said.

Theme Song:

Looks like it's the Four Wings of the Nimue now.

Also, my hand is feeling better!

That's good to hear!

Oddly, my left hand has been badly aching these past couple days. YOU GAVE IT TO ME. D:

On a different note, I'm sorta bored with AC: Infinity. There's just not enough variety, and it would take 8,000 years to get any equipment better than what I currently have. I love the gameplay, but after playing the same few missions over and over and over it's gotten a little stale.
Whew.

Got a post up just in time. This coming week is easily the busiest of the semester for me and is going to be a long haul, so I won't be on much. Hopefully my post sufficed!

Excalibur two, massive swarm to your six! Go evasive, Three's coming in to assist!

Miyoshi immediately jammed the stick hard up and right, engaging her airbrakes and deploying chaff simultaneously. Her radar was on the fritz and Excalibur Three's callout saved her skin as the drones' attack run barely missed the Foxbat, still grazing a wing in the process. "Light damage," she called out simply as she continued through evasive maneuvers.

"Thanks Three, I owe you one," she called out when the Ghost announced it had taken care of the bogeys. Now to return the favor, she thought, jamming the throttle forward and racing to chase the Fencer's pursuers. She quickly got right on their tails, and while she didn't get a clear shot to knock them out of the sky due to their constantly quick maneuvering, she distracted them from the Su-24 with cannon fire long enough for a very oddly nonchalant woman to announce their retirement from the fight over the radio.

After the flight lead announced the situation and attempted a morale boost (which only sort of worked for Miyoshi...I'd rather leave nothing for them to run away with in the first place, she thought), the squadron turned tail for the Nimue and Miyoshi was again enveloped in her own thoughts as the flight flew on in silence. The Ghost of the Straits and its two operators had saved her skin, and she...sort of...had returned the favor, but from what? Who was the mysterious woman over the radio who sounded like she had been watching a children's television show? How did the fleet fare? And so on. As the miles lazily went by her canopy, she didn't accumulate answers to any of her questions, but mercifully the Nimue poked into view and pulled her away from her thoughts.

Now all of her focus needed to be landing on that carrier again. As she had been right on Ariella's wing, she was in prime position to land first when the Kfir banked off to land last, so she called out "Excalibur Two here. I'll land first" and began her approach. Her Foxbat had sustained light damage to the left wing, but it was nothing terribly troubling. That said, this landing was difficult even in an undamaged aircraft. As the submersible aircraft carrier got closer and closer, she was reminded all too well of what little margin for error there was. Taking slow, deep breaths and preventing her knuckles from getting too white, she carefully brought her MiG-25 down, chirping on the runway and catching the second arrestor cable without a hitch. She breathed a sigh of relief once she had come to a stop and was handed over to the taxis and elevator, mentally wishing the rest of her squadron (especially Ariella and her stricken Kfir) safe landings as she was taken down into the hangar. Once parked, she climbed out of her aircraft, gave it her requisite two pats and glance at the Japanese characters on the tail, and stood waiting for her squadron mates to arrive.
Alright.

Since you and chukklehed are experiencing issues with the format of the Yuku, I'll try to explain it.

First, the inspiration for making an Athalia forum website came from this forum, which I frequent. Have a look around the various subforums, and notice that there's basically no other way all that information and discussion could be organized. Of course, the important difference between them and us is they have almost 250,000 members, almost 300,000 threads, and almost 10 million posts. Compare that to our 12 members and 350 posts and you could be forgiven for wondering why on Earth we need one.

Well, think about it. 350 posts alone is 17 and a half OOC pages on here. For me, I'd much rather have all that information categorized and easily accessible than be buried in the quick moving post train that is this thread. To me, one thread for ALL of our discussion just isn't enough, and having forums and subforums is far more civilized. As of now the value of the site seems questionable, but as we add more and more content it will make more and more sense.

There are other advantages to using Yuku, of course, which I'll list here for completeness:

1) Post features. Way more than here. Are they necessary? Of course not, but they sure are nice.
2) Stability. This is the big one. RPG is a site run by one guy on one server, and as we all now (as of recently) it is definitely not stable. A second Guildfall is possible at any moment, and what then? We'd lose everything. Meanwhile, Yuku is run by an entire company with 30+ servers running each forum.
3) State of mind. It's an entire website just for us. I think that's cool.

I will admit that Yuku is not the least cumbersome forum architecture out there. Compared to GTPlanet, it feels pretty unwieldy and convoluted to use, and the profile pages really suck. But GTPlanet is run using a forum architecture (Xenforo) that costs over a hundred dollars a year and requires a dedicated server. Yuku is free. Unless you all want to chip in, we most likely can't get a forum software that's as nice as GTPlanet's. And I will submit that (due to reasons listed above) it is still clearly a large improvement over the unstable Guild.

I may search for a better free forum architecture, but I seriously doubt I will find anything. To be honest, the amount of features and customization Yuku offers for free is pretty astounding. But until then, I'll provide a basic guide for forum-ing and specifically Yuku-ing.

The main layout of the site is based on subforums that are grouped into forums. What this means without using only the word "forum" is that there are specific areas of discussion that are grouped into categories. These subcategories (and the forum as a whole) only make sense and don't become ruinously complicated if people actually follow them and don't post things that belong in a different category, which I'm afraid has already happened. Certain members, presumably without forum experience, haven't grasped that each thread isn't like this OOC where you can just take the discussion anywhere you want. A thread is a topic, and is supposed to stay on that topic. It sounds complicated and needlessly regulated, but when the system is actually followed it suddenly makes a lot of sense.

I'm guessing the most confusing part about the whole thing for you is when you get to the home page and see all the post information next to every subforum and wonder how to keep track of everything. Well, in a forum like GTPlanet there are Alerts and subscribed threads, like on the Guild. Yuku doesn't have either of those things (which it really should), but it has an "Active Topics" button on the top right of the home page that sorts topics by the most recent post, so you can see what you haven't read yet. And you don't have to read everything. A forum is an active community with plenty of small discussions going on all over the place. Nobody reads everything, or even close to it. I usually stick to one or two subforums on it.

Once you get into a thread, it basically works the same as RPG. Edit or delete your posts, quote other posts, etc. The other main thing is everyone, not just me or Rose, can and does create threads. Say you have a new awesome idea for a Crash arc and want to share it. You'd go to the "Think Tank" (idea) forum and make a new thread about it. Then people would respond to the thread saying what they think of it.

That's basically all there is to it...I hope that helps. Feel free to ask any questions you have.
