𝓟𝓮𝓻𝓼𝓸𝓷𝓪𝓵𝓲𝓽𝔂

The first thing people notice about Millie Jean is her skittish behavior; she’s well ready to bolt at a moment’s notice and it is very apparent to others. It’s almost like she views everyone as a predator to her prey. Added to this, Millie Jean is awkward and often can’t explain to others why her need to flee is in place. She has a hard time connecting to other people without appearing as if she is uncomfortable in her own body, which she is. Her insecurity has led her to be quite shy at first, fearing others’ judgement and avoiding conversation unless a close friend is with her.

When you get past her awkward nature, Millie Jean is rather sarcastic and almost biting in her observations. Because she views everyone as a potential metaphorical hunter, Millie Jean tends to be rather cynical about others’ intentions for her. She is quick to devalue life, setting her expectations low to avoid disappointment. Beneath her cynical demeanor, Millie Jean is actually a daydreamer; she is stuck in the clouds to avoid reality. Even more so, Millie Jean is a hopeless romantic who just wants to be swept off her feet and have someone who loves her since she can’t love herself.

Millie Jean is scared of everything. Animals scare her until she gets used to them, people scare her until she realizes they are friendlies, and she fears the dark. The only normal fear that she doesn’t have is a fear of heights. In general, Millie Jean is just a fearful human being. When it comes to abstract fears, Millie Jean fears rejection. She feels as if everyone is judging her and she is scared that others’ won’t accept her, especially since not a lot of people have the palate for her personality.

𝓗𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂 𝓟𝓻𝓮-𝓜𝓮𝓶𝓸𝓻𝔂 𝓛𝓸𝓼𝓼

Millie Jean’s father was an immigrant from the Ukraine and her mother a Dixie Belle with big dreams of becoming a singer. Her father died before she got to know him, not that it matters now, and Millie Jean grew up without really knowing her Ukrainian roots. When she was twelve, her paternal uncle came to live with them to help with financial needs and she was reintroduced into Ukrainian culture. Soon, her mother and uncle entered a relationship, in which Millie Jean greatly disapproved of. While she appreciated her uncle’s willingness to teach her about her own culture, she wasn’t blind to the fact that he was a bit of an asshole.

When Millie Jean was fifteen, her and her mother took a vacation to Los Angeles to look at apartments, hoping they could find something relatively cheap and her mother could pursue a career in singing. When they came back to Texas, they were welcomed with an empty house and an even emptier bank account. Her uncle had ran off with their money after he lost all of his gambling. Broke and heartbroken, Millie Jean and her mother soon went into debt. When it came time to pay off the loan shark, the two still didn’t have enough money.

It was Millie Jean who found it and Millie Jean who suggested it. She was desperate enough for money that she willingly signed up to become a test subject, begging her mom to let her do this. Her mother staunchly refused at first, but when the loan shark threatened violence, she caved. Millie Jean officially joined 𝙿𝚛𝚘𝚓𝚎𝚌𝚝 𝚄𝚗𝚝𝚊𝚖𝚎𝚍.

Betelgeuse is not quite graceful, she is nothing close to exuding elegance and refinement, but she could be described as nimble. She moves fluidly, every muscle works with purpose and no energy is wasted. Often, she moves aggressively on spry feet, and she gives the impression that she can snap into action within a millisecond. Betelgeuse doesn’t walk, she stalks.

Despite her demeanor being aggressively self-assured, Betelgeuse is very petite and dainty in appearance. Her frame is small, a thin waist with narrow shoulders. Her big watery blue eyes draw attention to her noble cheekbones and pointed chin. She has decorated her body in tattoos of beasts from a young age; the most visible of which is a wyvern twisting on her shoulder. She has blue hair that rests beneath her chin and she often pulls it back in a half-ponytail.

When it comes to her wardrobe, Betelgeuse prefers light clothing. During her freetime, she’s in comfortable pants and thing tanktops. On the clock, however, she wears black cargo pants and plated tanktops underneath a long black sweater.

_{P E R S O N A L I T Y}

Brutish. That is the word others would use to describe Betelgeuse.

From her mannerisms to her personality, everything about Betelgeuse seems feral. She’s a quiet person, and her silence is heavy with unspoken judgment and muted snark. Rarely does she talk, finding it unnecessary to waste her words on communicating, and often falls back on disparaging looks and long-suffering sighs. When she does talk, she’s gruff and perpetually irritated. A loner and a misanthrope, she doesn’t want to associate with others very often and it is hard to impress her.

Betelgeuse’s movements are aggressive in nature – she’s the first one to get physical in a confrontation and is not above fighting dirty with her teeth. Often, her solution to things seems to be violence, and she craves the adrenaline from a good fight. The best way to get in her good graces is to give her a good brawl or through food. Once someone has won her affection, she’s loyal and protective, going to extreme lengths to protect her friends. She has a hard time sharing, too, and can be disgruntled if her friend has become close to someone else.

_{B A C K G R O U N D}

Betelgeuse was born on a settlement of workers who moved their families near the factory they worked in. The factory being a plant that transforms levistone into etherium. Since she was a baby, Betelgeuse witnessed the horrors of monsters that lurked around the nearby plant and lost many people to them. By the age of five, there was no one in the settlement that was her age. Most of the time, she had to entertain herself while both her parents worked. As nothing was near them, Betelgeuse was taught how to fish and hunt for food as well as gather herbs by a woman next door. She grew to appreciate nature, monsters and all.

Everyone in the settlement was surprised when Betelgeuse was enlisted into the WARDEN program. She was reluctant to go and only her parents praising her for being special convinced her to go away with the strange men. Her time in the program was spent mostly fighting or ignoring people. Since she had no friends when she was younger, she wasn’t used to being around kids her age and she found it annoying as well as energy-consuming. Betelgeuse threw herself head first into the program, it was cathartic to her agitated spirit and the adrenaline became her favorite drug.

Betelgeuse aimed for being a First Class WARDEN, but her temperamental personality and impulsivity landed her a position in Third Class.

_{C O M B A T}

Betelgeuse is a fiend in battle. Technically, she is supposed to be long-distance support, shooting Mist-enhanced arrows in the weak links of the enemy. However, she tends to rush into battle (to the irritation of her superiors). She’ll fight using her flexibility and Mist-enhanced fists. When she’s close to the enemy, she pulls her bow taut, and releases the arrow close range. It is an incredibly impractical way to fight – and it gets her adrenaline pumping like nothing else.

Her abilities with the Mist lies in enhancement. When she sees the Mist, a big sheer floating blue glob, she enwraps it around whatever she wants to enhance by shooting through it. With an arrow, she aims the arrow to fly through the Mist as manually wrapping it with her hands takes too long.

The Kahnawake reservation is populated by the Mohawk people. Calla spent her young years on the reservation with her parents until she was thirteen. Upon the age of thirteen, her family relocated to Montreal for more job opportunities for work. Her parents struggled to make ends meet, causing stress and strain in their relationships. Calla spent most of her days bowed over her desk drawing while her parents argued in the background. It was only a few months before things escalated and her parents became mutually abusive; and, when they couldn’t lay their hands on each other, Calla would sometimes end up on the wrong side of it. Her abuse was only made worse by her antics in school, as she acted up in class a lot for attention. A lot of the times, Calla had to provide for her own because her parents skipped corners with money and spent all hours working themselves to the bone. She wasn’t consistently abused and neglected, but it was enough for her teacher to mandate report her to social services. Calla was taken from her home and bounced around foster homes between the ages of fourteen to sixteen. More often than not Calla was fostered into white homes in which her foster parents did not understand her Native culture. This continued until she fell into the hands of the wealthy Hayes family. After spending two weeks in their spacious vacation home, Calla was adopted and whisked to their home base in Los Angeles. The Native girl is convinced it is just another case of her foster family wanting to be her “white saviors” and rejects any attempt at being included in the family. With their money, Calla was sent to the prestigious Alexandrina Preparatory School with her new adopted brother, Jayden — a move that has left Calla particularly surly.
