@Frengo Older zombies would probably be more cunning and have more control over their body so yes, I suppose so.

Though I had in mind that, because the zombification basically lowers oxygen levels, which in turn leaves the zombie slower because less oxygen can be supplied for movement - soooo, athletic people with stronger hearts (pre zombie) would be the faster ones.

Basically, whoever they were before being a zombie affects their speed.

How about making it so that the older the zombies are, the deadlier and faster they become? As the virus matures over time.

Young zombies = Traditional walking zombies.

Been Around For a Bit Zombies = Can go jogging pace, are stronger/more coordinated.

Old Zombies = Fast zombies. Maybe can open doors and climb things?

Just an idea.

Well I have a very useful living encyclopedia type character. Unfortunately, she's got a bad leg and can't run very often or long. She usually uses crutches to get around. She was a medical student before the world went to Hell, and had finished her first year of schooling. She was going for a minor in psychology as well.

Where is the Rig located?

That's for the characters to find out. But from what Morgan has revealed, there's a lot of sea between the Rig and the "continent." So Europe, or America, most likely.

Well, he's English speaking, and is apart of the 22nd USMC Regiment, which points you in the direction of either the Atlantic or the Pacific. The East Coast or the West Coast.

So 50/50 on that, and then there's the working out of how you got to the Rig.

No doubt you've guessed a plane can't land on an oil rig, so you were brought in by helicopter.

Your average American military helicopter can travel anything between 350-400 miles on a full tank of fuel.

That's as bout as much as your characters will know for themselves. If they want to know more, they'll have to ask the NPCs... who may or may not give up the information.

EDIT: Ignore Kahleen's idea, she's a heathen who does not follow the Holy Frengo Way. :P But no, Hamburg - or even Berlin on that count, would be cool alternatives.
