Kay was glad that Serena decided to stay as well, as she would only have worried for the woman being out in the city when there was clearly a surge and spoke in things coming after the two of them. She nodded at John's words but wasn't too impressed by him refusing to rest when he's dealing with being knocked out by a spirit and having saved Serena. It was too much for anyone to still be up and working. She was glad that Serena brought up the mention of resting before she did, but hearing and seeing John refuse the rest just made Kay sigh. She looked at Serena back then at John, putting her mug down and getting up walking over to him. "John wait up. Let me help. Books are my thing and the demon did originally come for me. You need to rest up and not do everything alone."she reasoned with him as best she could, hand on his arm to strengthen her concern in her words.

"Kay is right John, we got this. We can research and you can rest up" Chas suggested, thinking that it might be hopeless but if they could at least reduce the amount of work on John's shoulders by helping then maybe, just maybe he'll crash and get some sleep in the middle of researching. "or if you're gonna be an utter arse and not rest, at least let us or Kay help to relieve the amount of work from you" he added.
Chas couldn't help but hide the smirk and snigger from escaping him when Serena said what she did to John before exiting the room and heading to the kitchen where Kay was. "oh she can definitely stay if she can call you out like that" he chuckled before heading to the kitchen with him and behind Serena.

Kay looked up when she saw Serena walk in and smiled, "not particularly but was the most comfortable place to sleep I've had in a lo g time" she said truthfully before glancing at John as he spoke up about the night before, letting him fill Serena in on what happened, which prompted Serena to make a very precise educated guess what happened afterwards. Like Serena, Kay could see how worn out John was as well and wished he would just get some rest. "well you know more about what I am than I ever have, it's clear you can help me. So I'm staying if you'll have me. Also that bed beats concrete" she replied to John, but ended it on a sassy mark which was just how she was. She managed to finish her breakfast and grabbed her coffee mug, wrapping her hands right round the hot mug.
Chas listened to what John asked of him. He didn't like the idea of keeping something from Serena when they were trying to make the girls feel safe where they were, but he nodded his agreement nonetheless. As the door opened he noticed it was a shadow that opened the door for them and he couldn't believe how many scars adorned Serena's back, quickly looking away as casually as possible. With Serena starting the talking with mentioning the spirit from last night, his eyes went slightly wide in surprise that she knew of what had happened. Only finding her explanation of the shadows making it suddenly click into place in his mind. He couldn't believe for a split second that he forgot she could actually communicate with the shadows she was linked to, thinking it should have been obvious how she knew what went down without them needing to ask. He didn't like the idea of yet another thing coming after the girls, wondering just how much of a big deal Kay and Serena truly were if this many things were after them. Sure, he remembered John's brief explanation about Kay the night before but this seemed extensive, even for them.

He smirked when she asked him if John even slept and shook his head, "it seems not. Unless you count being knocked out by the wind spirit as sleeping. I'm pretty sure he'll keep going ubtil he just collapses from sleep deprivation if I'm not around" he replied to her, always relishing in opportunities to tease the crap out of John, whether he's next to him or not. "Kay is up by the way, in the kitchen having some breakfast. So yeah, John can fill you both in after you've both eaten properly" he then added.
Chas rolled his eyes at his mate's retort. If John wasn't so drained, he knew it was all too possible for him to die and last thing any of them needed was for John to end up in Hell....again. He gave Kay the look that said 'he's a stubborn fool' which made Kay smirk ever so slightly before looking at John as he spoke up more, explaining that Serena's shadows came to his rescue. "and he called me stubborn" she smirked toward Chas, making the man chuckle. "oh you're gonna fit in here just fine with that sass" Chas said, before John brought up the suggestion of checking in on Serena. Kay nodded at the suggestion of checking in on Serena as she wanted to do that anyway at some point, getting up from her seat, only for Chas to make her sit back down. "we'll go, you stay and eat" he told her, to which she knew she'd have no choice but comply, so she sat back down. "fine" she replied as she did as she was told. She didn't want to be on the receiving end of Chas' lectures if what she just saw from him toward John was anything to go by. It may not have been a full blown lecture but she got the feeling John received one at some point in the morning and has done on numerous occasions.

Chas stood up and started to make his way to the room he carried Serena into the night before, making sure to go slow incase John was wanting to follow on. At the room, he knocked on it first out of courtesy and manners, something that John didn't always have. "Serena? You awake?" he called through.
When it all happened during the night Kay was completely oblivious to all the things starting to happen in the main room with John. She slept uneasily through the whole night and didn't wake up until the next day late morning. With a groan and sigh, she ran her hands down her face and looked up at the clock on the wall seeing that was 11:30am. She sat up to gather herself before leaning down, pulling her coat off of her bag and grabbing for a clean top that she could change to. Changed and risking leaving her bag, coat and boots in the room she headed to the main room to see that Chas was already there with John. It was clear from looking around that something had happened but she just didn't know what. "what's going o?" she asked them both, making Chas look up at the sound of her voice. Without saying a word he got up and brought her over some breakfast and a cup of coffee, gesturing for her to sit down before they spoke about anything. "preparing me with breakfast and coffee doesn't make it come across as either of you have particularly good news" she pointed out, pointing her fork at them both casually.

Chas sighed glancing at John wondering how he was going to start this conversation. "firstly. I'm glad you're alright and I'm about to check in on Serena if she doesn't get up. And secondly it's not great news no..." he said back to her seeing no point in sugar coating it if Kay was coming straight out with it. "John had a spiritual intruder last night that attacked him. We've strengthened the warding but we can't be too careful." he started, hoping John would be able to give more information. Kay paused her eating at the start of the information as she looked at them both slightly wide eyed. She thought she was safe here, but now she was beginning to question it.
Chas nodded and patted his mate on the shoulder, "I'll see you and the girls in the morning" he told him, he knew he was lying through his teeth, as it was clear as day how turbulent the acquaintance between John and Renee was. Everyone around them knew how much each other despised the other, but always appreciated the fact they tried to remain neutral for Chas and Geraldine's sake. John was after all still the godfather to his daughter. Satisfied that John would stay sat down for a bit, he left the house and went home for the night.

Kay was unaware that she was getting comfort from Serena's shadows, but Fee wasn't. Fee from within Kay's soul appreciated the help in trying to calm Kay, knowing that any help was a good thing. Without it, Kay's fire ability could get out of control like once before in an abandoned apartment block where she fell asleep near an old barrel from a previous squatter. Her nightmares became too much for her and she set the barrel and its contents on fire. The smell of fire and smoke stirred Kay awake and made her make a swift exit, in denial that it was of her doing before seeing the fire fill the floor of the apartment block and break through the windows. So the last thing Fee wanted was for Kay's powers to become unstable and possibly burn down John's house.
Chas knew he did indeed have a promise to keep, but he was still concerned about his friend also. He also knew his mate better than he liked sometimes. He looked at his mate, seeing how dull his eyes were and sighed. "if I leave I want you to promise me that you'll at least take a break before trying anything. I know the girl's loves are at risk, but like I said they're safe here. You know that more than anyone else. If I show up in the morning and hear you overworked yourself or find you in a mess on the floor or at the desk I won't be happy" he warned him. "so please for my own sanity as well yours, take a decent break before even thinking of getting back to work" he practically pleaded with John, before sighing and standing up.

Kay's sleep was deep but it wasn't entirely peaceful, like a lot of nights it was filled with her horrid memories as a kid, as well as the 'what ifs' surrounding if she was caught by demons and not saved or escaped. In her sleep she gripped the pillow and duvet tightly around her that even her wings struggled to appear and comfort her like they normally would. Tears streaked down her cheeks, but were hidden by strands of her hair that laid over her face.
As Chas returned he saw the state John was in and ran over, making him head to the couch instead of attempting going upstairs. "nah ah, you ain't going up a spiral staircase when you're about to faint. Just for once in yer bloody life pause and rest up" he said to John. To anyone else his tone may have come across as quite harsh, but he knew with John sometimes, just sometimes he had to give him some kind of authorative tone or his mate just wouldn't do anything sensible. It always came from a caring place though. "if the girls can rest up then so can you, research can wait until the morning. The girls aren't going anywhere, this place is heavily warded to protect all inside it, so there's no reason to over do it tonight" he added, hoping that for once his best mate would actually listen to him even though it sometimes felt like it was a rare moment when he did. He made John sit on the couch before perching on the coffee table edge.
Kay could tell that John wasn't alright even though he was stubbornly saying he was. "thanks" she replied, making note of where the bathroom was if she ever needed it, but then remembered she already knew where it was after going after Serena initially. Seeing John sway a little she was glad that Chas returned when he did, because she was convinced John was going to pass out. Both of them could could understand why John would want to be more prepared, they all did deep down. Both watched him closely as he headed to the stairs, easily seeing how uneasy he was on his feet. "sure thing mate, then I'm back to help you out because you're clearly not okay" he told him back, gesturing for Kay to follow him, which she did.

On the way to the hallway, she quickly grabbed her bag and followed Chas through the hallway and to the other spare room that was available. Stepping inside, it wasn't the best looking room but it had a comfortable enough looking bed. She could see it was mostly used as possibly a storage room judging by some stuff that was casually placed in there. "this should be alright for you. Sorry about the mess he keeps but it'll be better than the couch, trust me" Chas said to her with a small smile. "anything is better than concrete floor and tarp if I'm lucky" Kay countered to him, to which he looked at her as if to say 'touché'. "we'll I'll leave you to it, if you need either of us just hollah. I'll be here long enough to make sure John gets some rest then I'll be back in the morning" he explained with Kay nodding in response. "thank you" she said back, letting him leave the room as she walked over and slowly sat on the bed. A small content sigh escaping her as she felt once again a mattress beneath her and soft bedding. Dropping her bag beside her on the floor, she pulled off her coat and laid it over her bag before kicking her boots off and getting under the cover fully dressed out of habit. It took her only a couple of minutes before she was out like a light, the softness of the fabrics of the bedding lulling her to sleep.
Kay found it curious and interesting that her kind had so many names. Yet she could clearly tell that John was tapped out and probably needed to rest himself. She felt almost guilty still talking to him when he was so worn out. The important thing that she should be focusing on was indeed the fact that Serena was out of the woods and would make a full recovery. "right.." she replied as she too got up, realising only now that she left her bag unattended the entire time this was going on. "I should let you rest..is there somewhere I can crash for the night?" she asked him, not wanting to bother him any longer than she had been.

When Chas laid Serena down on the bed, he quietly left, but left the door ajar so if she needed any of them, they'd hear her call out and they could easily check in on her if needed without disturbing her too much as well. Reaching the main room once more, he saw Joh. And Kay now standing but John was clearly worn out from exerting himself so much. "mate you look like you need to rest yourself" he told him.
