Chas sighed, "I dunno Serena. John will tell you no doubt all you need to know about Midnite and I know he, like myself won't feel comfortable with you finding Midnite yourself and getting information. It's far too risky and I won't put you in more harms way" he explained both options that she could be meaning by her words.

Hearing the footsteps still heading up just ahead of her, Kay followed them before deciding to do something that she always hated in horror movies, calling out. "hello? John, that you?" not sure who else who it could be, if anyone as none of the magic warding seems to have gone off with alarm due to an intruder. So in her mind, it had to be either John or someone who knew how to get in without setting wards off.
Chas focused on the road as he began driving them back to the millhouse and Serena and Josh talked with each other, Serena seemingly calming more and more as they spoke. He glanced at Serena through the rear view mirror and nodded, "I agree with that, but he ain't gonna be happy with what we have to say" he replied back to her.

Kay had to admit at first, she didn't hear the footsteps from up above, but now that Trish pointed out, she focused her ear on upstairs and low and behold, she hesrd them. "hmm...you stay here, I'll go check it out" she told Trish, pointing her finger at the kid as she gave an order, then headed upstairs.
Josh nodded in understanding, feeling slightly bad for calling the man her ex. He just didn't know what else to say to describe him at the time. "I see, I'm sorry, didn't mean to be a bit insensitive" he replied as he saw Chas get in the drivers side and start the cab to head back to the millhouse. "we'll figure this all out though, so just focus on remaining calm" he suggested.

Kay shrugged, "I mean, if he was sleeping well enough he should still be asleep right now. Why?" she replied to Trish, curious to what she was sensing or hearing upstairs that she herself couldn't pick up on. As far as Kay was aware John as still fast asleep and she knew no one could get in without setting off the magic warding off and them seeing.
Will reply when I can. Got two party bookings to work today so the reply will be delayed a little while
Chas listened to his words, hoping that Bane was right in not being seen whilst also deciding he had no choice but to just trust him on his word. "I won't" he told Bane just as he left to do his own part on the job at hand. Snapping is ut of his thoughts and refocusing back onto Josh and Serena, he opened the back door of the cab for Josh who carried Serena over and got her into the car then proceeded to get in next to her. "Darren's your ex....right?"Josh asked her softly.

Kay couldn't help but smirk ever so slightly, but not out of amusement. "I'm with ya on that one kiddo. I don't like it either" she replied to her. "life can seriously suck sometimes" she added.
At Bane's question and request, Chas was hesitant to let Bane get anywhere near to Papa Midnite but it did feel safer to let Bane go off than it was to let Serena do it. With a hefty sigh after he weighed up the options in his head. "I don't like it and John will probably have a go at me for telling you this but your best bet is to lurk around the dark alleys, the secret passages underground and such where the downworld lurks. Its where all the riff-raff and scumbags hang out, but Bane you gotta be careful, if people or demons or whoever get wind of what your doing? You're a deadman" he warned him as a friend.

Kay could see how Trish was, see the worry in her body language which made Kay wish she knew what to do to help. Clearly her words of reassurance weren't working. "you okay kiddo?" she asked tentatively.
Chas nodded in agreement, "trust me mate, the further we stay from Midnite the better for everyone" he replied to Bane, feeling more than okay with keeping clear from Papa Midnite. He watched on as Josh kept ahold of Serena and then proceeded to walk her to the cab, "I think we should head back to the millhouse now" Josh suggested to both Chas and Bane. "she needs to be somewhere where she can calm down and relax" he added.

"if she wanted to, she probably could" Kay replied to Trish, "but it's about whether or not she wants to, and anyway, Bane was there as well so we could probably ask him" she added with a non-committed shrug and bite of the warm brownie.
Chas nodded in agreement that they'd need something else if it happened again, or as he hated to think, when it would happen again. "we found out whose involved in the jump on John and is interested in the girls. It's a guy called Papa Midnite, someone who John has had run in's with before and someone who will do literally anything to get his own way. Including letting his family members die. It tipped her over the edge" he explained to Bane. "I won't have her or Kay get involved with Midnite and I know John won't either when he finds out. John has been lucky to even get out alive from the shit Midnite has put him through, the girls stand no chance" he added. "especially as its worrying that it seems Midnite has gotten himself new contacts because unless his goons just so happened to have caught sight of either Serena or Kay by sheer fluke? He's more than likely made deals with either other mages or demons to know about them" he said seriously.

Kay shrugged, "I got no clue kiddo, like I said Fee was more interested in hurting the guy to get Serena and the other kid to safety, rather than listening to what the mage said. She's as stubborn as I am when it comes to keeping people safe" she explained to Trish.
Josh kept a firm secure hold on Serena, kneeling down with her to keep her stable as she stumbled downward. He lifted her up and carried her so she didn't have to worry about putting gall her strength into remaining upright. "it's okay, I got you" he told her softly. "I'm just glad Josh could bring her back to us without me needing to use adrenaline to do so" Chas commented bsck to Bane, slowly getting used to Bane just appearing in his human form.

"of that I don't doubt now. When she got taken in Seattle the wannabe mage said something about her being more than just a vessel to Fee. I didn't think there was anything to it at the time but now? I'm not so sure" Kay replied to her, then decided she was going to cut the brownies up into pieces. Pushing herself off the counter that she was leaning against, she went through the drawers before finding the knives and grabbing one where she then started cutting through the brownie into portions. Once done she gave Trish a piece, "here, they're best eaten warm" she said to her as she grabbed one for herself.
After a few seconds of lingering, Josh finally pulled back just enough so he could look at Serena. Seeing her eyes coming back to normal, he lifted a hand up to cup her cheek in his hand. "you with me?" he asked, scanning her eyes to see if she was okay. Chas managed to find what he was looking for and started to head back but paused in his step when he saw what Josh was doing. He was going to jab Serena with adrenaline if Josh had managed to bring Serena bsck with a simple kiss. It felt terribly cliche and like something from a hallmark film, but if it worked, he would trust Josh to do what he needed to.

Kay frowned when Trish said what she was did. She hoped Chas and Josh would have it under control as she said they would, especially as they weren't near by to run and help. The last thing she wanted to do was leave John unsupervised as well. "like I said, I'm sure the boys have it under control" she said again.
