He truly prefers smaller closed groups to larger ones, provided the participants are intelligent and interesting. In short, Conrad could be described as patient, quiet, and clever. Stupidity is off-putting to him, though he observes the traditional traits of chivalry as both noble and worth pursuing.

Conrad was raised with two older brothers in a wealthy family located in central Switzerland. His two brothers, as successors and heirs to the family company, were given special education under tutors and philosophers in business law. Conrad received a milder education, focusing more on reading, writing, and mathematics than business and relations. The result was a man who loved reading and philosophy. He took to independent studies when he could, focusing on the art of conversation, political theory, and law. He eventually was capable of debating with his brothers face to face, and his father, far from discouraging it, decided to send Conrad to Saint Valerius to make peace between the three brothers, and to allow Conrad an opportunity beyond what he would have received at home. After entering the school, he was content to sit in the back and watch and listen, learning from the mistakes of his peers, and from the clever antiques of the upperclassmen.

His goal is to make connections that will help him later in life, recognizing that the academy holds the future of countless nations on campus. Because of this, he tries to avoid social games, such as the knight ranking and the banter between the various cliques. Hold a neutral position, and remain friendly to with those worth knowing, and he may have a bright future in his countries politics on the Federal Council. He aspires to be Switzerland's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Kelvin is not the passive type, and likes to make his opinion known. Ordinarily, this isn’t quite desired in a guard, but Kelvin also possesses a deep respect for social order, and defers to his employer in all things. He is incredibly loyal, and will not show any disagreement outside of private communications between himself and his superiors, unless he feels the situation is extremely dangerous. His first priority is the protection of his charge, the second the safety of civilians, and his own third.

Background:

Kelvin comes from a largely uneducated family in a small town. He was allowed to stay with his family until he turned fourteen, when he volunteered for training as security for the local leadership. His loyalty was his one redeeming trait that separated him from the other personnel, and Kelvin was favored for it, until a noble further up the command chain one day took notice of him while visiting his the area. Kelvin's family was offered a handsome stipend for his services, and so he moved away from his family and began advanced combat training as a bodyguard for his new employers.

This lead to his current role as a knight, and his attitude has remained largely the same- the safety of his charge first and foremost. To him, dueling is a necessary evil, and if his noble commands, he will fight.

Kelvin’s Equipment

Kelvin prefers lighter armor for flexibility, though with modern alloys it remains quite strong over the sections of his body it does cover.

Light Armor

For his blade, Kelvin prefers a weapon from his homeland called a Kreigmesser, a curved blade slightly longer than a longsword with a nail, or shelled guard. It is suited for cleaving cuts and slashes more than stabs, though it is capable of such. Despite its appearance, Kreigmesser’s possess excellent balance along with their cutting power. It is comparable to longswords in that it can be wielded with one hand, though Kelvin prefers a two-handed grip for aggressive combat. His combat style reflects his weapon, following that of grappling and firm stances rather than fluidity and lightning strikes.

Kelvin rather have a medium shield that is large enough to be useful, yet small enough to cast off quickly than a door or dinner plate sized piece of metal.

I tend to get a bit busy as well, and I lack proper gming experience. I don't feel like I would contribute enough to warrant being the Co-GM, and there are others here who have more experience with it.

I don't mind helping out where I can though. I have been roleplaying for six years now, the majority of it spent in what this forum considers 'Advanced Roleplay' so plotting and character design are no trouble for me. (Though you should really question any graphics I put out while on painkillers for my teeth >_> )

Also, some questions on our official lore. Your twist is that gunpowder wasn't developed, and weapons tend to be mechanically powered, right?

If electricity is as advanced as modern, then are there electro-magnetic guns? (they would be really heavy)

If electricity is severely limited, are we talking about just lightbulbs, motors, and wiring, without advanced circuitry?

-If electricity doesn't exist, is this more of a (very) light-steampunkish type society?

Is it more/less steam based society?

Is it more/less clockwork based society? (or a mix?)

-Society itself resembles and acts close to modern day cultures do? (With your added twist, of course)

Alright, it was the terms 'nobles' and 'knights' being thrown about that confused me, and I will edit my CS's to match the theme, thanks for the heads up!

Though, in Kelvin's case, is the armor and equipment still appropriate, under the assumption that gunpowder never formed? (Assuming Arms and armor would still exist like swords, albeit in a modernized sense.)

It's my bad, I had my wisdom teeth out five hours ago, so I probably just missed it. xD Please give me a bit of time to fix up the CS's

I'll stay out of the advanced vs casual debate, except to say this: I STARTED rping in advanced, and have been at it for several years now. I am coming to this forum BECAUSE of the casual, as it's something that can be written relatively speedily (with quality, of course) yet still give me that rush from reading other posts, which will be coming faster due to the casual nature. Not that I am dropping advanced styled writing, this is just a nice relaxant. Like a chef making a sandwich instead of a three course meal.
