I'm open for suggestions as to how to informally refer to Dede or any other nicknames which could be used for her. I was trying to convey her relaxed attitude to command, similar to the way Anakin allowed Ahsoka to call him 'Flyguy' early in their relationship and the way droids are nicknamed throughout the canon.

By the way, the Double De is not a reference to her physical appearance in any way.

When you refer to gaseous environments… Do you mean anything with a fairly normal atmosphere?

Yes, any environment with air to breath as opposed to liquid environments such as Glee Anselm, Mon Calamari, Manaan or Kamino (or portions of Naboo.)

Perhaps you had her first treated there, then brought to the temple for the final bits of recovery before redeployment?

Dede didn't awake from her hibernation until she was at the Jedi Temple and so has no memory of where she may have been treated before that.

It's possible there were complications in her forced hibernation which meant she'd need to be treated by a specialist who was only available at the Temple, or that she was simply moved there for her recuperation once her wounds had been dealt with, but as she was captured while still in recovery she hasn't had a chance to find any of that out yet.

It's possible there may be a mystery there for her to solve. _{Dun-dun-durrr...}

You mention she’s not good at deflecting blaster bolts back, yet give her Force Deflection. That doesn’t exactly rhyme. We’d suggest having only the tutaminis there. The way tutaminis works, she could absorb the energy from blaster bolts into her body and either diffuse it or channel it away completely. For regular deflection, use the lightsaber. Its much more reliable.

Since Dede carries a pair of shoto 'sabers deflection with her blades is difficult, so she's learnt to use her Force abilities for deflection instead. Most of the time she'll just use her agility to avoid incoming fire, but when trying to cover someone else this wouldn't be an option.

we assume you mean “Glee Anselm” rather than “Glee Anslam”, as the latter doesn’t appear in the wiki.

How old do you imagine her being when recruited?

Only about 6-7, just long enough for her to have begun forming her own personality and sense of self, as well as having made emotional connections with the rest of her family. She would've missed out on some of the Jedi Younglings/Initiate portion of her training a little, which would be why the Council would've needed to make a decision as to whether to allow her to train as a Knight, or force her into the Service Corps instead.

This is quite a major point for the character's possible development since the separation trauma of having been taken from her family at that age could be the catalyst for a potential fall to the Dark side, the very same reason the Council refused Anakin at first.

Recruits weren’t typically selected for a certain path of training, but they were often encouraged towards a path they were good at. If she showed aptitude for a guardian role, they would have encouraged her towards that.

Just acrobatics, Force Jumps and other exceptional acts which most Jedi would be able to perform, not actual unpowered flight.

I did? The only mention I made of them was in the 'Path of the Sith' portion of the 'long term goals' section, and since that's out of character I didn't think it would be a problem.

Also as a note, romantic involvement is allowed in this era, though it is not taken lightly. Typically it requires council approval for serious relationships to continue though, so her actions in that area can stay the same.

With Dede the Council would've decided not to allow her relationships to continue at least twice, and both times she agreed to abide by their decision. Whether there was a decision made in the case of her third relationship or not hasn't been discussed, but I'd say the Council allowed it only for her partner to be killed soon afterwards.

This history of making unwise connections with others could be something which would lead her into difficult situations at times, and something I hope doesn't end up getting her killed.

Dede Battle Robes

Standing at 177cm (5' 9") barefoot Dede. is slightly shorter than an average Nautolan, but not noticeably so. Her body is highly athletically built due to her hard training exercises and active battle performance.

Dede picked up an appreciation for body art from some of the troopers she's fought alongside over the years and has tattooed several of her tendrils with simple geometric designs. While some believe the round marks are 'kill markers' in truth they are reminders for Dede of the family she left behind and others she has had close relations with in the past.

Notable Race Traits:

Amphibious

Amphibious: Having evolved to live a life submerged Nautolans may breath and move while underwater without restriction, and have an innate understanding of water movement and currents while navigating through large natural bodies of water (lakes, oceans, seas.) This knowledge does not extend to rivers, streams or other flowing water, as most Nautolans live in the deeper areas of the oceans and have little experience with these small channels.

Enhanced Sensory Capacity

Enhanced Sensory Capacity: In the standard gaseous environments found on most settled planets Nautolans have an exceptional sense of smell, and although their eyesight is comparably weaker than most other races (making them functionally short-sighted to a range of approximately ten meters) it functions just as well in low light conditions as it does in brightly lit areas.
Finding it difficult to distinguish facial features of other races Nautolans tend to rely on pheromones, and similar chemical traces given off by other races, to determine emotional states.
The fourteen sensory tendrils on their head have evolved to detect water movements within approximately a meter and a half, ensuring Nautolans don't bump into things in close proximity, and work in a similar but less precise manner in gaseous environments.
In aquatic environments Nautolan eyesight is as sharp as any other races' would be in a gaseous environment, and their sensory tendrils give them an acutely accurate reading on everything in their immediate vicinity, however their olfactory senses would be equivalent to any other races' in a gaseous environment while submerged.

Dispersed Cardiac System

Dispersed Cardiac System: Unlike most races Nautolans do not have a centralised cardiac system, instead a series of smaller hearts scattered throughout their bodies help to regulate blood flow. This makes Nautolans more resilient to heart disease and combat damage as they're able to rely on 'back-up' hearts should any one ever stop working for any reason.

Flaws:

Battle Worn

Battle Worn: Dede is currently questioning her life choices as long periods of combat against the Sith have led her into a number of morally questionable situations and she isn't certain whether her choices have been the right ones. She has developed a tendency to second-guess herself whenever having to make a moral choice, and this can sometimes cause her to 'freeze up' in tense situations.

In Recovery

In Recovery: Recently Dede suffered crippling damage during battle which necessitated her immediate transfer back to the Jedi Temple for treatment by the Healers. While her wounds have been dealt with, she is still recovering from the ordeal and is not yet up to full combat readiness. Extremely demanding physical acts will take a greater toll on her than other Jedi of her rank and skill level, and will require a longer period to recover from than would normally be required.

Lost Limb

Lost Limb: During the same engagement which left Dede in the medical bay one of the Jedi Knight's sensory tendrils was lost. While this does little to impair her sensory abilities, her other thirteen tendrils easily making up for the loss, it is a constant reminder to Dede just how fragile life is, and how quickly it can be taken away.

Combat Veteran

Combat Veteran: Having been on the front line against the Sith for most of her career Dede has learnt how to inspire those under her command, marshal resources to support an ongoing campaign and when to make strategic withdrawals when necessary. Her combat experience has left her jaded however as she's had to make judgment calls which have led to the deaths of friends and colleagues more often than she would ever have wanted.

Natural Athlete

Natural Athlete: As with many members of her race Dede is usually more physically active than most other Jedi, using her speed and agility to perform exceptional physical acts even without the use of the Force.

Ataru Striker

Ataru Striker: Given her race's weakness to long-ranged combat Dede learnt how to quickly close the distance with her opponent by using her natural athleticism and the environment to her advantage. Once engaged Dede's rapidly flowing and evasive form of combat allows her to easily weave between her opponent's attacks while striking them with speed and precision.

She wields two blue shoto lightsabers, giving her a great deal of precision when fighting in close-combat, but limiting her ability to block incoming fire at longer ranges. The Kyber crystals are Dantarian in origin, helping Dede to conserve and recover Force energies while fighting and allowing her to make more use of her Force-boosted athleticism.

Force capabilities:

Basic Jedi Powers

Basic Jedi Powers: As an experienced Jedi Knight Dede has practical knowledge of the basics Force Speed, Force Jump, Precognition (Jedi Reflexes), and Telekinesis, however her more combat orientated lifestyle has left her little time to develop her more spiritual and mental powers Force Sight, Force Sense and Mind Trick.

Advanced Breathing Control and Hibernation Trance

Advanced Breathing Control and Hibernation Trance: Whether partly due to her racial background or not, Dede has shown considerable talent for controlling her breath and vital functions, allowing her to survive for long periods with very limited supplies. She still can't breath vacuum however, and would only last a few minutes in space even if she were able to slip into a trance.

Skilled Telekinetic Whirlwind

Advanced Telekinetic Whirlwind: The flow of water comes as second nature to Dede and it came as no surprise to her instructors when she showed a great aptitude for understanding the flow of air as well. With training Dede learnt how to use her Telekinetic ability to manipulate the air to form whirlwinds capable of trapping an opponent, or throwing objects great distances. Her only problem was that with her poor long-range sight aiming projectiles still remains rather difficult.

Skilled Force Deflection

Skilled Force Deflection: With her combat experience Dede has been given ample opportunity to hone her energy deflecting skills, even without the use of her lightsaber. However, while she's able to easily protect herself and those close-by with her abilities, deflecting attacks away, she lacks the level of control required to direct the path of the deflected energy and on at least one occasion has caused an injury to a colleague due to a misfortunate ricochet.

Battle Meditation

Battle Meditation: As part of her ongoing combat experience Dede has learnt how to calm her mind and ease the morale of the troops under her command before battle. While not the full extent of her power, Dede has not spent as much time developing her potential in this area as she could've, as she much prefers to lead from the front rather than hanging back and allowing her colleagues to risk their lives protecting her.

Biography:

With her Force powers detected rather late Dede spent most of her early life living with her family on Glee Anselm before finally being identified as a Jedi candidate and being escorted to Coruscant for inquisition by the Masters to determine whether she would be suitable for training. With an inquisitive and playful nature the young Nautolan impressed the Jedi Council with her desire to succeed, and although one Master expressed some concern over accepting such an old child into their ranks her arguments were overruled.

Showing an aptitude for the more physical nature of the Force, Dede was selected as a Guardian trainee and spent most of her days learning the finer points of lightsaber combat and telekinetic control. While she also showed some talent at the more spiritual side of the Force the young Nautolan found such matters dull and dry, instead revelling in her newfound ability to practically fly through combat exercises using her enhanced acrobatics and telekinesis to move almost as easily as she used to swim through the sea.

When called to war Dede showed determination and courage in the face of the enemy on numerous occasions, and it was soon decided that she was ready to face the Trials. All seemed to be going well until she faced the final test and was forced to face the spectres of her abandoned family, her mother, brother and sisters. Unable to cope with the strain of her emotional connection with them Dede failed the Trial and was sent for further instruction on how to control her emotional tendencies. After many months she as finally able to retake the Trial, and managed to pass without concern.

Sent to the frontline Dede. served the Republic with skill and competency, specialising in missions where close-combat efficiency and ferocity were an asset. Having been involved with several successful campaigns, as well as a few crushing defeats, Dede has learnt to value life and gauge just when and where that value should be spent for the greatest good.

Her latest engagement ended badly when Dede took a blaster bolt in her back during a battle. As she lay in the mud, bleeding out, she was forced to watch as her squad were overrun by the enemy. Able to drop herself into a hibernation trance Dede was left for dead in the wake of the battle, only awaking once she had been transported back to the Jedi Temple for treatment.

Personality and/or Motivation:

While Dede tends to be very goal orientate in her life, working towards specific objectives and aims, she has little in the way of long-term plans. She knows that one day the war will end and that there will no longer be battles to fight, and when that time comes she will happily lay down her 'saber to take up a quieter life once more. Her dream is to become one of the Masters at a Jedi Praxeum, helping to mold future Padawan on their own path to Knighthood.

Player’s long term goals:

During her latest battle, before being captured, Dede witnessed several of her close friends shot down around her. She's haunted by the memory of these comrades and would like to try and learn whether any of them survived the combat, and where they are now.

Path of the Jedi

Dede is a bold and charismatic leader who cares deeply for those around her and with the right team behind her can achieve almost only goal. Her concern for the moral implications of her actions shows that she is mindful of the dangers she faces, even if she has yet to overcome them all.

Path of the Sith

As Master Yoda's warnings of emotional commitment have proven with Anakin Skywalker, family can be the burden which lays a Jedi low. Dede's history of forming deep bonds with individuals could end up being her downfall.

Relations:

Dede has been trained with a very military mindset, treating her immediate comrades as family while trying to keep emotionally distant from those under her command, preparing herself for the day she may have to order them to their deaths.

When she joined the Jedi Order Dede left behind three siblings on Glee Anslem, a brother and two sisters, and while she knows her family relocated to Mon Calamari several years ago she has had no direct contact with them recently.

Homosexual, Dede has had three major romances in her life, and while one was killed fighting the Sith the other two she chose to leave behind to fulfill her duty to the Jedi Order and the Republic.

From, what I know of the Nautolan their olfactory and pheromone-detecting senses are only exceptionally acute while they're underwater, since that's their home environment. In gaseous environments Nautolan suffer from poor eyesight, but make up for it with their sense of smell instead.

While this gives them a slight edge in certain situations, such as being able to smell someone from around a corner before anyone would be able to see them, at longer ranges where eyesight would easily pick out a target they tend to find themselves unable to smell out their opponents, and when wearing an environment suit of any kind their sense of smell is worthless as an aid. Things like wind speed and direction would also affect their olfactory senses, since scents may be carried away with the air flow, or be brought closer in favourable conditions.

Since they have difficulty seeing the faces of other races Nautolan tend to rely on pheromones when gauging emotional states in others. Due to their dependance on their olfactory senses Nautolans often forego the use of breathing apparatus whenever they can, keeping their faces, and noses, clear. They also have an innate mistrust of long-range communications, preferring face-to-face meetings with others when dealing with them.

With multiple hearts inside their bodies Nautolans are more difficult to kill with critical shots, although their heads and brains are still as much a weak point as with almost every other race.
