I guess my comfort zone is "eccentric side character."

Alfie had not been at breakfast.

In fact, after being threatened by some doof in shining armor and seeing how strange Hunter had acted Alfie had decided to make herself scarce in the wake of all the new arrivals. It wasn't that she was unsociable. Mr. Grey from the old orphanage had done his best to make her comfortable there, talk to people, make friends. Orphans usually had problems, some would see a hand reaching out to them and their first instinct would be to slap it away or bite it off. She'd had those problems herself.

The problem was that biting or slapping was the worst a regular orphan could do.

Here they could set you on fire.

And the worst of that sort of thing was always when they first arrived. Normally she'd just avoid a single person while they got settled in, watched them to make sure that they weren't any danger. But there were so many now. That wasn't going to work this time, and it wasn't like she could keep hiding in her room. She'd have to watch them and decide who was safe to be around all as a group.

As she walked carefully down the hall toward the gym, hearing the tale-tell signs of drama and conflict she was so eager to avoid, she froze. There was someone she actually knew peeking inside. Kyo, the boy she didn't like because he did weird dream stuff. She gotten caught up in the weird dream stuff stuff once by accident and had avoided him like the plague from that moment on. She didn't know what he was looking at, but he obviouly didn't see the ice that was crawling up his legs.

There was a moments hesitation before she remembered what the cold could do to a person, then she started running. She leaped over the ice that was now creeping down the hall, praying that so long as she didn't touch the edge her legs would begin to freeze. Landing a skid she fell forward and reached out to grab his arm, arresting her fall just enough to get her feet unsteady back under her.

Well, that was one way to get someone attention.

"Hey. Hey!" She said urgently. "Your legs are icing up. You have to move! Look down!"
Sorry, I'm so sorry. The power company was working on the lines a few days ago and ever since power came back on my modem has been in its death throes. I ordered a new one and should be able to post regularly again in at least three days.
Izayoi Grand Hospital - James Maury

James tipped his hat off his head and swished it through the air in a sweeping bow before speaking. "My names is James Maury." He said, straitening back up. "I'm a children entertainer of some renown, thought looking around I doubt any of you are in the correct age bracket for Mr. Maury's Worldwide Roundabout. I travel the world bringing different lives and experiences to the attention of developing minds. I consider myself a citizen of the world, and dabble in this and that when I'm not working. Lately I've taken a large interest in puppetry, and I would be honored to share my contact information." With that he whipped out his own cell phone and took down any that was shared while giving his own.

"And with that all buttoned up, I believe Mr. Ves Hawkins has had an excellent idea. Fresh air has never done anyone any harm. Perhaps take some time to slow down and really consider things." The man looked around the room the same way someone looks at a lake before diving it, trying to figure out whether it was going to be too cold. Then he seemly came to a resolution, and voiced his idea. "Such as whether or not there is a 'perpetrator' to exact justice on. Yes, Mr. Xandor said he saw 'someone' at the tower. A man. But is that so unusual for a building of such significance? A local oddity of its magnitude must surly see many visitors each day."

He pauses, fiddling with the brim of his hat while trying to think of how to continue. "What I mean to say is that we do not have a full understanding of the situation. We've seen nothing to indicate that what occurred wasn't just some strange 'phenomenon' and it's dangerous to draw the conclusion that there must be a responsible party in the wake of a great tragedy, while feeling are running hot."
Has there been any indication, to characters other than Xander, that what happened might have begun at the tower?
Izayoi Grand Hospital - James Maury

The news stunned James, who brought his hand up to his face and lightly clasped it over his eyes. "Poor girl," he said. A life brimming with potential cut short randomly and violently. Who was she? What sort of woman would she have become? Why had she died when the rest of them had not? For a man who sought meaning in everything it was an agony far worse than what burned in his nerves right now. It cut him to his core.

Wait, what had Mr. Xander just said? He was headed to the tower when he was injured? That was a fair distance from where they'd been struck by an...he hadn't actually gotten a good look at it. A flying 「Thing」, yes, that was a good description of it. Had what had occurred occurred everywhere? His thoughts went to his crew. They'd split up to scout locations for the show. Surely a few of them had gone to the tower, it was the greatest landmark in town. He's specifically said they should go out and discover local flavor. Depending on far reaching the event was even those not at the tower would be in danger.

This was no time to dally about in bed. He pushed himself up onto his feet. "Mr. Xander, a moment please. My name is Jame Maury, some of my people may have been at the tower. Please, could you describe exactly what you saw there?"

But yeah, I can see where you're coming from, having some more posts before it was revealed Yukari died. It just makes sense that YoYo would jump at the chance to check on his friends, and I had assumed the nurse was a free for all NPC.

I was thinking more that this could be something like Burning Down the House and not have an actual nurse.

But, ordinary hospital. Got it. Everything in working order.
Super big post. There was a lot for me to respond to, and I wanted to get this "Yukari" business out of the way.

I'd have held off on that for a bit personally. We don't actually know if this is a regular hospital or some sort of bizarre situation. Pressing the call button was partially to figure that out.
Izayoi Grand Hospital - James Maury

Breath deeply. In and out, in and out. No matter what, keep breathing. In and out, in and out. No matter the pain, keep breathing. In and out, in and out. Relax your body, and with every breath form a buffer between you and the pain.

There were certain Holy Men in the world that were able to walk on hot coals, pound spikes through their bodies, and even immolate themselves without letting out even one whimper of pain. They took that pain a boxed it away, separating it from themselves, putting it elsewhere. James had once contacted one such man, a monk from one of the highest temples in Tibet, and through almost a years correspondence convinced him to come on the show and share his wisdom and perspective. A technique for dulling pain wasn't featured in that episode (there was no telling what children would do while trying to replicate it) but James had housed the man personally during his stay and they'd talked long into the night about Tibet, a monks life, and the finer points of meditation.

Besides listening to his fellows converse James had spent the past few minutes, eyes clenched shut and sweating bullets from the agony, attempting to put what he'd learned to practical use. He was not, however, a Holy Man and this pain was like a ocean. He doubted even a master could put it all away and he was a rank amateur. But then someone bumped his bed and he diced that he simply must start to move. In all of his life he had never been the last one to wake up and greet the sun and he certainly wasn't going to let a lifelong streak be broken here.

Slowly sitting up into a seated position he looked around the room and nodded at each of them. "Fine, young lady. Everyone." He said shakily, before sliding his legs out of bed and letting them rest on the floor. "I'm afraid I remember only as much as Mr. Ves Hawkins. One, two, three, Uggghhher." He groaned, pushing himself out of bed and standing up. Looking around, he reached over and found his hat from the nightstand. It felt like lead, but he laboriously lifted it up and placed it back on his head. The added weight seemed to be enough to collapse his back to sitting, but at least he'd made progress.

Then he looked down to the side of the hospital bed and smiled weakly. "This will help explain things." He said, reaching down and pressing the Nurse call button on the beds remote control. "If nothing else a staff member will help us find the other young lady." He said, then looked over at the new face in the room. "I'm sorry." He said to Xander. "We were all within sight of one another during the event. There was someone else, a young lady as described by Mr. Yoyo. I'm afraid you're the odd man out, Mr...?"
Disappointing, but understandable. "C'est la vie." He said, tipping his hat to the young man and his friends retreating backs. "I wish you a lovely afternoon, then." He called, before his attention was pulled away toward a new face on the street. A man in black with a friendly disposition. He smiled back at the newcomer.

"Good day to you, master Ves Hawkin. James Maury, at your service. One injury, I'm sad to say." He said, reaching into the inside pocket of his garish coat and whipping out a band-aide. He held the band-aid aloft in his hand, sticking straight up to the sky. "If you have something cold could I at all bother you to lend it to me for a moment? Incidentally, would you be at all interested in learning how to set a broken nose?"
There's always the possibility that the one clinic was the extent of it.
