@Skallagrim Good luck my man, hope only the smoothest of sailing!

It can be a cut or using gathered energy in a sword to cause the magic effect to collapse in on itself. Should look at the entire ability.
Khan you know you ran right into his Earth Circle right? I go to all that trouble of trying to throw you into it and you just run right into it for me.

Metz' reaction sums it up.

Of course he can see magic circles after all. Why did you think he dropped his sword in the first place? Well, one of the many reasons.

And just so you know, it absorbed the mana before it became stone. Thus leaving no mana in the circle to activate it.

Without mana, we are nothing.

Tablurath watched as his opponent turned his head back in alarm at his sudden movement. Then the mage reacted the only means he could. Activating the circle of magic at Tablurath’s feet off to his left side. Just as planned. However, the mage had overlooked one crucial detail.

Serenity.

The magic pulsed as it entered the circle, but its course was suddenly drawn into the Starlhrim blade as the energy inevitably flowed through the circle. Serenity reacted to the mana as Starlhrim often did to any magic it touched in its raw state, by storing the bolts of energy from the circle into itself thus stealing the mana needed to create the pillar of stone and dissipating it as a result. In short cancelling the effect before it even started. It was a turn of event his opponent would have no way of foreseeing, though perhaps suspected from his earlier lightning spell.

The earlier sword throw had in actuality been aimed for the magic circle from the start, injuring the mage had been an added bonus. Serenity had simply taken that swords place as sentinel given its position in the ground set it right on the circles broader. The result would mean a delay before the effect began, as the mage would need to send even more mana to overwhelm the swords capacity assuming he understood in time what was happening to the mana’s flow, however, no such time remained before Tablurath’s sword bit into the man’s back. Should the sword fail, the sudden upheaval of stone could see Tablurath thrown off his feet, his position being just at the border of the magic circles effect.

The path of the sword cutting through the left side of his spinal column, before shredding through his liver, left kidney, and finally the large and small intestines. Effectively cutting the lower left of his torso open. The arch of the swing ended to Tablurath’s left, as he pushed off his left leg and struck the center of the mage’s back with an open palm strike with his free right hand, the momentum behind it equal to a speeding semi-truck focused in one area. Enough to snap his spine in half and launch the mage forward. Given the man’s focus was on his now defunct sabotaged magic circle. He’d have no means of defending himself in time or avoiding Tablurath’s assault.

"Checkmate." The Cardinal breathed as his palm made contact. The force of it creating a circular wave that kicked up sand around them.
The mage’s arm flexed upward to grab Tablurath’s wrist moments after the explosion of his sword. The twist of the man’s own wrist a clear tell for the perceptive fighter. The sudden wrist grab attempt interrupting Tablurath before he launched himself forward given the window of opportunity to exploit his opponent clearly did not exist.

Practiced in close quarters combat Tablurath’s merely twisted his fist down before the mage could get a proper hold against the thumb of his opponent's left arm, using the greater mass to roll around in a circle going up and then push down suddenly forcing the mage’s wrist into an uncomfortable twist. His opponent was strong sure, but that did not mean much when proper leverage was applied in the right area. The sudden burst of speed as he enacted flash point on a small scale which allowed him to completely break free of the hold attempt as he finished the twist with a sudden downward push further aided by gravity.

This alongside the movement of his opponents quick thrust upward. Tablurath’s right hand clenched into a fist as he struck the mage’s wrist at the end of the clockwise spin just as it reach as high as his chest. Applying force and pressure to knock the mage’s arm sharply to the man’s right, possibly knocking the knife free in the process. He pushed off his left leg pivoting sharply to his right and his opponents left.

In the peripheral of his vision he could see Serenity, blade down, partly buried in the sand off to his opponents 8 O’clock. The Mage suddenly froze in place as Tablurath pushed his body into a short range flash-point, rushing past him in a blur. Stopping with a sharp turn to his left with Serenity at his feet and his opponent now at his right side just a little over five feet away, the extra momentum shed into Mercy allowing him to decelerate instantly. The Cardinal leading with his left foot, his right leg slightly behind.

Ideally he would have simply cut him during the pass, but the world blazed by too quickly even for his ocular skills. Before His opponent might recover from the initial shock of losing track of his opponent. Tablurath drew Mercy in one smooth motion, as he slid his left leg forward, aligning the draw into a single cut aimed for the back lower left side of his opponent.

It's off to his left and above him (because he expected Khazna to drive the sword downwards into his back like he was holding a giant knife.) until he twists it round to initiate the grapple then it blocks the sword. I had to make a rough estimation because a lot of things in this confrontation are pretty much up in the air. Your character's powers aren't the easiest to imagine in this sort of close encounter.

Also, isn't your character technically indestructible? If he can create these clone swords at the speed of light and then explode them instantaneously I'm not entirely sure how anyone is supposed to actually hurt him considering the only avenue for attack seems to be at melee range. Save for carrying a machine gun into battle, a machine gun would be nice right now. Though Skallagrim nerfed guns in that fashion, so really your character has no particular weakness in this tournament.

The swords need one post before they form. If Ralis had engaged in melee from the start he'd have killed Tab almost off the bat, why he never did boggles my mind considering his defaces are faster then him but, oh well. I was one turn from losing as it was but don;t let him know that. XD

Giving Tab time to plan is the worse thing ever.

Also if you want an idea of how CQC with Tab would look like two words. Albert Wesker.

I still don't understand the arm blocking the sword bit though, If his arm is in front of him he'd be blocking his own line of sight. Unless he's staring at the ground head forward.

Edit: Oh well I'm posting. I do need to start training for close quarters combat.

If Tab is standing roughly facing Metz (as Metz is charging his open body) then backwards would be to his right, though it's not really important as the current situation has both fighters wrestling for control, its essentially just a grapple. It wouldn't be that hard to transition from a fore-arm block to a wrist grapple after they made contact, as far as I know it's pretty standard practice for disarming.

Metz isn't really using his arm to block the blade burst, his arm just gets in the way as he's grappling because the arm is between the blade and Metz face. You have to imagine Metz still being somewhat lower than he should be because he's essentially keeping fairly low to strike low at the body, or at least was until the most recent post.

The whole movement is one action, it makes more sense if you imagine him ramming the blade upwards with his right hand while his left twists, faces Tab's and then yanks down while bending. Not that Metz really has the strength to outright overpower Tab, though he is slightly stronger I think.

I'm not sure how your character's right arm would be in the way unless we're imagining the scene differently somehow. Metz is driving his blade up immediately after his jab, which took place simultaneously to the blade exploding. (which in turn required Tab's own arm to be up away from his body)

The only way Tab's arm would be in the way would be if he completely overcame Metz strength and managed to yank his arm back like he intended in the time it took his knife to richochet and shoot upwards, which seems unlikely as Metz is the stronger.

Alright, the position of his head would have been nice to know earlier. I was just wondering how he transitioned to a wrist grab since I imagined the back of his forearm against the inside of my characters forearm. (Thus both palms facing the same direction, only Tab's hand is facing Metz's since he was trying to avoid Tab using the sword.)

In my mind I have Tab standing with the right side of his body facing Metz's, basically he'd have his right leg between metz's legs. I just imagined him pushing upward right after his jab. Which left the blade slightly behind tab and under his right arm.

Where did you have Metz in relation to Tab assuming the latter was in the center of a clock?

Also I added Metz's strength score earlier and based on multiplying his base score by 3 (assuming his mana boost is neutral until it ends). Which left them more or less equal in strength. I originally thought it would be more.

So for this wrist grab, he's trying to twist backwards? But in what direction? Your backwards my backwards? Seems a tad vague.(and it seems to me he changed what he did from a simple block with an arm into an actuarial wrist grab again even though he abandoned that very act.) And he's using his arm to block the blade burst? I'll also add that must be the most uncomfortable wrist grab for him seeing as Taby's position means Metz's arm is inside his guard. Unless that's not a thing anymore for some reason.

Also wouldn't the path of his dagger have Tablurath's right arm still in the way? Unless he pulled his arm back before he closed the distance.
