Once more, Yukimura was back to slicing down monsters like nobody's business. He struck down a single creature with a <<Sharp Nail>> and then countered the attack of another at his side with a <<Horizontal>>. That left four enemies to deal with. The swordsman grinned, but it was less a grin of pleasure and one more akin to a shark, eager to end a life. He wasn't left unscathed by the fight, that was for sure. There wasn't much room for finesse when you were busy trying to kill as many as possible in the shortest amount of time to protect somebody. As such, he was skimping on his defense - parrying, partially dodging, or just tanking all the hits thrown at him. It wasn't very good for his HP bar, to say the least. He wasn't dead yet, however. He still had 32%, give or take. Plenty of HP to left to take down the mobs, and then some.

Yukimura charged into one, burying his blade in its chest and turning around. He grabbed the blade in reverse grip and pulled it from the sparkling shards that used to be his enemy, activating a <<Rage Spike>> to end its life. He then transitioned into a <<Diagonal>> to kill the third coming for his flank. That left one more, didn't it?

The white swordsman glanced around. "Where...?" he muttered, blade at the ready. He scanned the area a few more times before glancing back at his partner. "Look out!" he called, activating <<Sprint>> to intercept his partner, grabbing her and activating the first <<Sword Skill>> to come to mind, <<Uppercut>>, and ending the enemy mid leap.

Slower paced Shonen adventure?

If you want to truly epitomize the shounen genre, the main character needs to have spiky hair. The more absurd, the better.

ALL RIGHT. So writing a long, dialogue-driven blurb AND characterizing the narrator is a lot harder than I thought. Plus, I had Ren's sheet laying around so I said "fuck it I'll write it later" and put together the following changelog for y'all:

'AIM/An Involuntary Movement' has been omitted, and combined with 'Personal Reality', because AIM is only relevant when it's very much voluntary and nobody seems to care about the passive effects of AIM anyway. The term 'IRD/Independent Reality Diffusion' was chosen to replace Personal Reality because IRD makes a better acronym than PR or PRD.

AIM/IRD is no longer exclusive to ESPers. IRD is produced in low levels by every race as a product of sentient thought, but only ESPers can actually use it to summon fireballs and whatnot. This low-level IRD production MAY be responsible for why magic works (because if ESP abilities work by individual belief and Magic works by large-scale belief...) assuming we're still using Idol Theory.

Power Curriculum Program is now IRD Development Process because PCP has nothing to do with class, and the class in which ESPer abilities/IRD properties are taught is now called 'IRD Dynamics'

Basically, the IRD Dev Process causes your brain to produce more connections between the chunks of your brain that produce the most IRD and the parts that handle muscle control, which let's the user produce as much IRD as they can at their level. This, in turn, turns the ESPer into a low-scale, extremely specialized reality warper.

To justify why teens get superpowers, the IRD Dev Process works best before the onset of puberty because it gets less likely to get useful results (an ability that can break Delta... or even an ability at all) as brain development slows, dropping to truly abysmal levels after puberty.

Then there's other junk that's not too necessary, but that covers most of the important points. I think. I probably missed something.

Ren is a skinny teenager who stands at the height of 173cm (5'9") and weighs 55kg (122lbs). He has a messy mop of shoulder-length dark-auburn hair, and red eyes. His skin is very much on the paler side of the spectrum, and when combined with his thin stature, dark hair, and red eyes create an appearance not unlike that of a certain female-dominated Lyranian clan. The mildly androgynous facial features don't help his case either.

Personality:
Ren is a rather stoic young man. He doesn't really talk all that much unless he really has something to say and isn't not all that expressive either, speaking primarily with a monotone voice and a distinct lack of expression on his face as he does so. However, his body language is usually the best way to figure out how he's feeling. As, while he doesn't particularly voice his emotions or show them when he's talking, he often makes faces and moves his body about when he's not obligated to speak. Though his reticence doesn't make him vehemently antisocial by any means. He just doesn't really go out of his way to make new friends or anything.

When Ren does speak, he's not too polite. Sure, he'll exchange pleasantries and won't go out of his way to piss people off, but he's incredibly blunt, almost clinical even, and speaks rather snarkily for a voice as monotone as his, with hints of self-deprecation hidden in his dialogue. He doesn't like lying and rarely, if ever, does so himself, practically to the point of brutal honesty. However, he's completely willing to omit facts and tells half-truths. He rarely does any external complaining, and keeps most of his complaints securely within the confines of his mind and narration. He's actually quite proficient at pretending to listen intently while mentally berating the person, and then dispensing suitable advice in his usual sarcastically deadpan manner. In that sense, he could be called a patient person. Sort of. However, he finds it very hard to truly let bygones be bygones, and while he can play nice enough, he never really forgets.

Ren doesn't hold conventional morality in high regard, and thus follows a rather selective or myopic morality. He's the type to mind his own business unless something is particularly offensive to his sensibilities, in which case he'll definitely do something about it. It's just that that 'something' might be planting a bullet in the offender's cranium. He's pragmatic, not necessarily nice. He considers himself to be an efficient person and doesn't waste time when push comes to shove. Nor does he put much stock into protecting people with words and talking things out with the enemy. He's bad with words, but much better at clinically figuring out a course of action.

Ren uses his rather abrasive and off-putting personality to cover for his 'childish' worldview, inability to ignore his emotions, or be socially competent. He'll often retreat into himself, stumble over words, and (perhaps) become red-faced should these points be targeted. So yeah, he's a bit of a 'tsundere'. Fancy that.

Ren is hardly an unintelligent person. He's received a very good education, even by Academy City standards, and takes extra classes after school. Furthermore, he's a naturally perceptive individual with a good memory.
: : Analysis: Ren is very good at taking in information, picking it apart to get more information, and then using it for varying effects.
: : Encyclopedic Knowledge: Over the years Ren has learned quite a bit of information, both out of necessity and out of interest. However, it's mostly out of necessity due to the fact that his ability covers an almost limitless number of scientific and mathematical subjects. Ren's focused more on mathematics and the branches of science that regard common abilities. He holds an interest in programming.
Military Training
Ren received training from a program that wasn't necessarily the conscription required of teens within certain Caeliferian islands or Terrenian tribes, but something enough like it. Rather than being trained to participate in convention operations per conscription, Ren was trained for special operations work and thus has learned skills to help facilitate this.
: : Close Quarters Combat: All things considered, Ren is hardly a physically imposing fellow. If he were learning a martial art, it's doubtful he'd get very high in rank. However, he was taught to focus not on fighting mano-e-mano, but by exploiting every resource at his disposal to strike at weak points. As such, he was instructed in varying illegal martial arts techniques, and those that can quickly disable enemies or make enough space to fire off a few shots. However, in a fair fight his probability of victory lowers substantially.
: : Marksmanship: Ren is very skilled with the use of the standard small arms array (pistols, submachine guns, scoped and unscoped rifles, and mounted and unmounted light machine guns), excepting the unmounted light machine guns, and with special focus on scoped rifles and pistols. This skill makes up for his weakness with not consistently being able to procure abilities for use or fight hand to hand.
: : Stealth: Ren has learned how to shadow targets, shake off pursuers, and stay undetected with a startling amount of skill.

Primarily, the subject's own IRD Field is manipulated in order to temporarily replicate the effects of compatible IRD Fields within range. As no other instances of this ability have been located in any ESPer records dating back to 2050s, it is hypothesized to be the only instance of this ability.

Tracking ability is of limited use due to being well-within the limits of human eyesight.
: : Gamma-level: Subject can maintain a single ability active, and five on standby. Improvements from Delta-level are minimal at best, with roughly the same disadvantages. As with many of the aforementioned functions, the amplification capability is not well-suited for combat situations.
: : Beta-level: Subject can maintain two abilities, and eight on standby. IRD Fields recorded still have an initial output of Delta-level, and must be raised to Gamma-level for permanent recording. Replicating IRD Fields from the environment, while being slightly less restricted, requires a rather close proximity to the origin. Furthermore, the aforementioned function is especially vulnerable against IRD output that affects the environment without requiring input from the ESPer, such as thermokinetics.

On the other side of the party, the white-haired <<Beta Tester>> was striking down creatures with sufficient application of superior stats and <<Sword Skills>>, almost as if he had done so a million times before. Which wasn't all that false, all things considered. Compared to Yukimura and his buffed SPD and DEX stats, the mobs he was facing off against were practically freakin' turtles. Yeah, it looked like he was in a jam, what with being practically surrounded, but he'd intentionally aggro'd most of the creatures in the vicinity to himself in order to cut them down with extreme prejudice, and collect the EXP for him and his partner. Plus, combined with Lily's level grinding, allowed for even more EXP to go around. As long as he didn't get distracted, he'd be fine.

The young man registered his comrade in arms approaching, back towards him. Evidently she hadn't see "No, wait! I can deal with this!" he called out, cutting down a leaping monster with a <<Vertical>> before transitioning to a <<Slant>> to cut down its ally and clear a path for Lily, because it was evident she wasn't going to stop any time soon.

'Damn,' Yukimura thought, putting an arm in front of Lily protectively, 'Ten to deal with, basically completely surrounded, and carrying a <<Newbie>>' He looked down to Lily's HP bar. Fortunately they hadn't broken 50% of hers... yet. Enough of even 1 damage attacks could kill a player, and these guys definitely did more than 1. Either way, there was no way he'd let anybody die on his watch, not least someone in his party. "...Alright," Yukimura began, sizing up the enemies, "you take the three on your end. I have a higher level and more HP, so I'll take down the rest." He glanced back to the pink-haired girl, "You've got enough HP for that, right? We'll strike on my count."

"Right," Yukimura nodded in affirmative, side of his lips perking up just a tiny bit, "best be getting to the level grinding and all." The white-haired young man drew his sword. It wasn't anything flashy really, just beginner equipment. However he knew enough Sword Skills to make it work for him. At least until he'd get better equips on higher floors. On the other hand, armor could wait. He put all his points into the 'not getting hit' and the 'killing before you're killed' stats, so new armor was the lowest on his priority list. Besides, his penchant for light armor meant that the armor he got wouldn't protect him all that well anyway. Speaking of armor, the hood on his basic gear did a pretty great job at concealing a good amount of his appearance. At least it didn't look like he was a husk, but he wouldn't be getting any modelling gigs any time soon. He'd also have to acquire another hooded equip, now that he thought about it.

Spotting a few enemies in the distance, Yukimura nodded towards them before saying to Lily, "This spot's good. We'll farm mobs until.... Whenever. A couple level ups, maybe. Then we could head into the town proper for a bit of R & R. Maybe then you could go message your pals back at the Town of Beginnings, tell 'em you aren't dead 'n' all. I'm sure they'd love to hear that." That said, he activated his <<Sprint>> skill and got to work.

Question: How long ago did the SAO canon take place in the RP? And are our characters aware that this has all happened before?
