@Skinner35 okay, how about a compromise, he has to use SPECIFICALLY his own power to incapacitate someone, then he takes their soul, and they basically get left in a comatose state instead of dying, and in the event the this guy gets pummeled, all the comatose people wake up

@Skinner35 just hear me out, his the downside is that each soul (including his own) is like one unit of power, he can only use each unit once per day, or else he'll severely injure himself, so it's each soul adds to his capacity, but he has a limit as to how often he can use it; also, newly acquired souls are useless for the first 72 hours after he absorbed it

@Skinner35 I just had an idea! Would a guy who gets more powerful by collecting the souls of people he kills be ok? It's suuuuuuper evil, but I'm hoping you don't think it's too OP
