What techniques do you use to open these "pickle jars"? Or is it just raw pickle jar opening strength? (not to be confused with regular strength)

I feel honored to be Miss Capn's Valentine! (/ε\*)
Hey y'all, sorry for disappearing for like, three hundred years. Just got out of the hospital yesterday, and I'm still feeling pretty shitty right now tbh. But hopefully I'll start feeling better soon so I can finally post. v.v
*SCREAMS* AAAAAAAAAAAA. R U OK? WOULD YOU LIKE AN INTERNET HUG?! I THOUGHT YOU DIEEEEEEEDDDDDD. WHO WOULD HAVE SPAGHETTI WITH ME THEN?!
On a serious note, thatS AWFUL MURDOC I... Oh uh. That's awful murdoc, I hope it was nothing super super serious. ;( Feel better or Ima punch you in the funny bone.
@Brithwyr Multiple characters right off the bat is a-okay. Either that or you can introduce them later on. That's up to you, but, yeah multiple at the beginning is fine.
(Noted! I shall have a list up later today of the reserved characters.)
@Subject Zero It's not a bar and grill, but yeah they serve food. Probably wings, fries, lotsa finger food. I might add in an old fashioned diner, actually, if you want to put Aladdin there?
Okay, wow, that's actually a lot of people. *sweats*
AnywAYS, the OOC is done and finished. You have until yesterday to get your CSes up. DUN DUN DUN. Jk, there's no deadline. Take your time if you're still interested. ;D
Essentially, these guys come from various legends, fables, fairy tales, and stories, and in another, separate universe/realm they lived their own lives. Average villains and heroes and inbetween lived among each other, whether in strife, in turmoil, or in harmony among various kingdoms that dotted Mystvale Valley. The large inlet of land was once surrounded by a ring of mountains with passages out to grasslands and finally a coast. Though the layout of the realm isn’t much use anymore, it’s still a good reminder of what once was. And a nice idea of how large and how many of these individuals lived there.
Within Mystvale, Vales took on various sizes and shapes; things that could hardly pass for a human (e.g. the little pigs were essentially actually pigs) though remaining simple enough to understand. The Passage radiated such powerful magic, however, that upon passing through to the human world, these beings changed with their environment. Most can feasibly pass for a human without any modification from magical sources. No one knows exactly why or how, though not many people like to question it.
Magic essence is considered a drug (street name Essix), something often dealt with rather secret circles and produced in a manner considered highly dangerous. Thus it has nasty side effects for one-time use to continuous use and is highly addictive. Side effects for one-time use: jittery, paranoia, sense enhancement, minor telekinetic field, change in diet, moody. Side effects for continuous use: change in personality, stoic and withdrawn, intense paranoia, further sense enhancement, heavier telelkinetic field, combustible field of magic, light, constant fever, dehydration. Side effects for overdose: extreme fever, dehydration, sense overload and potential loss of any or all, if not expelled can cause death via liquification. Withdrawal side effects: malnutrition, dangerously low body temperature, fatigue, potentially organ failure, potential acceleration of senescence, and possibly death if not treated.
As has been noticed, Vales come in various shapes and sizes, though in the human world they retain a vaguely similar shape. The main trait of most Vales are their adaptability and hardiness. It's very, very, very difficult to kill a Vale by regular, human means, though these human means (guns, knives, any kind of weapon) still hurt incredibly and they're a great way to incapacitate 'em. If anyone has ever learned anything, it's that a Vale will likely get back up, serious injury or not. However, many of these beings are rather susceptible to magic and many have their own specific weaknesses that can kill or even cripple them. As well, Vales have an extremely longer lifespan than regular humans and, as such, they have various countermeasures in place to keep themselves in hiding, hopefully indefinitely.
Now in New England, many Vales live within the confines of Cedar Grove, Connecticut, about twenty miles from New York, New York, just on the coast of the Atlantic. The town itself is rather small, consisting of about 2,000 people in total. Many Vales congregate among small communities, intermingling with humans to further blend in; in essence, most Vale's find themselves a part of Cedar's middle class and in small homes in nicer neighborhoods or apartments. Cedar Grove mostly thrives on locally owned businesses, as well as the higher class citizens in their small, restricted neighbor consisting of the more coastal area of town, making up large homes on the hillsides. Not far from this area are where the local businesses are stationed, making up a strip near the docks of Cedar Grove. It's a very suburbanized area with a few hotspots where drugs and crime have occasionally peaked. Overall, it maintains a relative peace, despite the fact that many of its denizens have polarizing and opposing views on politics, local and otherwise.
This area serves as both a regular courtyard plus town hall, as well as the main seat of 'government' for Vales themselves. Sitting along the street just behind the strip, it places itself right on the western end. Adjacent and attached is also the city's police station with a small jail cell right under. Anything from town meetings to PTA meetings are held within these halls. (Why not the school? Well, apparently any time they try to set a PTA meeting in the high school assembly hall, something awful always tends to happen) Beneath Grimbly's Hall is where Vale meetings usually take place, in a secret and well renovated basement. This is also where Vales Head Magician and his witch/wizard advisors take shop.
Just as the name implies, it's simply a strip of road called Ishmael Drive. Many local businesses owned by a mix of Vales and humans dot this strip. Notable businesses include Lemont's Cafe, Merry Men's Bar and Grill actually on the dock itself, near the end of the strip. It's often the busiest part of town and full to the brim with beach goers, old folk, and families, as well as scene kids brooding in alleyways and hipster teens wearing scarves in the middle of summer.
The strictly pub kinda bar at the tail end of the Strip owned by an older human named Jameson Moriarty with his two young daughters Claire and Louise. He's the only human in Cedar Grove who has any idea or recollection of Vales and considers his pub a safe haven for their kind. Many humans still frequent it, but once last call for drinks is called and the last human is ushered out, he leaves it open for Vale employees to tend and look over for the rest of the night before opening it once more the next day. He's a friendly, gruff kinda guy with a large lumberjack beard and kinda fluffy around the center. He'll banter and talk with anyone, just don't mention his wife if you don't either wanna get a earful of complaints or a mouthful of fist.
Set up in the middle of town, this lovely, little, family clinic is run by a Vale doctor and specializes in treating a Vale patients specifically. It's a very hard to miss building with it's tall, glass wall lobby and the fact that it's the only clinic that can also do emergency vet checks without scheduling an appointment. It's well staffed with two physicians (one vale, the owner, and a human) and a total of 4 nurses. It has one ambulance which is used to take serious injuries that require surgery to the nearest hospital.
"my soul comes from better worlds and i have an incurable homesickness of the stars"
Thirty years have passed. Thirty long, arduous, and trying years have passed since the Passage, a large exodus of storybound individuals called Vales from one realm to the next, where they landed themselves in a world where their lives have been forever imbued in legends, stories, and tales. An escape from the all consuming rage that took their people by the throat and squeezed until death befell their realm, Mystvale Valley, by the droves. Thousands lying dead to unknown, malicious entities looking for none other than their absolute destruction.
Their once prosperous realm went dark the moment the tear in the realms closed, severing the connection between Mystvale and its denizens. They suffered silence and loss of direction in this new world, unknown to what monstrosity sat between them and what used to be their home. It felt like an interlude, the quiet break before things turned downhill. They didn’t realize the stage had been readily set for the second act and that their lives would only worsen in the coming years.
Now, these beings settle in a small town off the coast of New England, having adjusted to their surroundings. Some have lost hope entirely, digging their roots into jobs and businesses and blending in naturally to their human counterparts. Others still wait, whether in squalor or opulence, for a sign that their home awaits reclamation, whether by some odd luck or by force. However, they remain close knit, choosing those fit to govern their actions and relying on trusted individuals to make sure their identities remain hidden to mortal eyes. Though, few denizens elude this mockery of a government in favor of following their own set of rules and standards. Lines drawn and further evidence of dissent eclipses a growing problem rising in the background.
Things fall apart when a single tear is reopened. Nightmares mingle in the background before digging their claws into something greater than the home of fairy tale creatures: Earth.
This RP kind of verges the line of modern fantasy slice-of-life style of storytelling and grimdark fairy tale mingling in the background. I don't intend to make this super edgy and noir, but it has some of that feel to it—I think I like the idea of semi-noir, detective-ish, but certainly not as the basis. If I were to mash it up, I'd say Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a True Detective feel to it. Less campy, but not as extremely serious. I guess that's why I put both Once Upon a Time and Fables up there, because it hits that middle ground nicely.
Like I said in the interest check, the RP is going to be both plot intensive and character driven. Everyone's going to have an important role in driving the plot, as well as hopefully coming up with some plot ideas themselves. It's not a sandbox, but I'm more than willing to give people free reign on ideas whether as a whole or for their characters. I'll be a guiding hand, definitely, but I want to give people enough creative freedom to make this story their own.
As for the plot itself, that's why I gave that weird comparison in the first paragraph. On the surface, it seems less serious with the magic and the local politics, but I intend for things to get rather out of hand and a little darker as the RP starts to pick up its feet and gain some traction. That's where our antagonist(s) come in, firstly playing in the background, and then coming to the forefront of the RP. I suppose that's for you guys to solve, though. I don't intend to make things easy.
That being said, I don't think character death is going to play much of a role unless people leave/disappear entirely, or things escalate enough that someone volunteers, someone asks permission, or comes forth with an idea. I don't intend to smite down anyone's character, since this isn't a combat oriented roleplay. The setting will stay the same. I don't plan on having our characters do that back and forth bit OUAT tends to do.
As for writing, it's casual level, so I don't expect people to be mind blowingly amazing, but I do expect people to have a grasp of the English language. I don't like it when GMs say: I'm not a grammar nazi, but if there's consistent errors... etc. etc. That makes me doubt myself because I tend to make weird typos when writing and they make me feel dumb quite often. So, when I mean consistent errors, I mean illegible and illiterate to the point where I could read text speak better than that post. Anyway, just make sure to proof read, but I'm not gonna hound you about it; improve at your own pace and when you want advice and help, ask for it. Posting speed is maybe gonna be a bit slow, it honestly depends on the group we have, but I expect at least one post a week. Tell me when you can't and all that jazz.
Make sure to stay within the bounds of the character's story. I'm looking for adaptations that you make your own and not entirely new characters with "Big Bad Wolf" smacked on as a label. That being said, it's all up to your interpretation, just make sure that the fairy tale character you're using and their story is a solid foundation of inspiration. And definitely no carbon copies of existing characters in various other media. That means no Bigbys, no Reginas, and no Shreks (?????).
The character can be a villain, a hero, or anything in between in a fairy tale, story, fable, etc. I'm not allowing mythologies unless you can give me a twist on it and make it compelling. But, absolutely no deities or omniscient beings. The usual no mary/gary stus and no OP characters. This isn't combat oriented, so don't make a character that's sole purpose is to be a bad ass.
You can have up to 4. I'll make a list of taken character ideas. As it stands, currently taken ones are: Red Riding Hood or Goldilocks, King Midas, Pied Piper, Musician Town of Bremen, Aladdin, Merlin, Arthur, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan. I'll make an actual, comprehensive list soon with bullet points. Make it official and super cool to look at. Yeah! ;D

Alright, the CS is done, so all I have left it do is churn out the smaller details: locations, how certain things work, etc. Which means I should have it done tonight/this morning if I start working on it once I head home.
I'll tag you all once I get it posted!
If you guys have any concepts you'd like to talk to me about, ideas you might want me to look over, concerns, questions, throw me a PM and I'll be happy to discuss whatever is needed with you!
