Desktop profile login won't work. Coincidence that Windows 7 is no longer supported on same day? Consider me doubtful.

I'm having way too much fun with my Legend of Zelda Encylopedia. This is the game that got me into roleplaying so have a lot invested in it's lore and stories. Too bad can't have all the games too.

Making demons actually in the blades just makes it a bit too complicated, especially if other people controlled them so that's a no go. As for the origin of the blades, the most likely scenario is that they were forged from rather powerful demons. Because the blades are essentially formed out of the bodies of these beasts their essence is then trapped inside the blade, which is perpetually pumping out something like miasma which corrupts the users bodies. While sealed in their scabbards the blades are relatively harmless, only minorly corrupting the individual over long periods of time; however, as a blade is in use the demonic essence easily flows into and through the person using, causing corruption at an accelerated rate. Because of this mechanic, probably each user should have a regular weapon they use so as not to increase the cancerous demonic power for trivial matters.

So as for how the corruption works, perhaps something like this. When a Demon Blade wielder gets their blade the curse starts right away, by means of corruption but the effects are miniscule at best. The more a Demon Blade is used, the faster the corruption spreads. The corruption could at first seem beneficial, perhaps giving enhanced strength and senses, but soon a wielder's mind becomes unstable and they start to change. Depending on the level of corruption it might at first just be minor personality changes, becoming more reckless and ruthless for instance, but later the darkness starts to take its toll on the psyche, creating paranoia and hallucinations among other more extreme things. If the corruption gets too out of control the wielder could essentially lose their sense of self and become merely a whirlwind of destruction and base emotions.

Now as the corruption grows there should be a way to combat it, otherwise it would only be a short matter of time before frequent users would fall prey to their darker, base desires and become demons themselves. Not entirely certain how this mechanic should work but a few things that could help might be meditation, certain medicines, and perhaps acupuncture to help unblock clogged 'flow' paths to allow the corruption to leave the body easier. I was actually thinking of making a character whose job is too look after the Demon Blade wielders to keep them from falling pray to their own swords.
Yes help would actually be appreciated now as for what I have at the moment.

For the Demon Blades here are a few things to narrow it down some.

1. As I mentioned a somewhat fantasy style, historical Japanese setting with all the trappings. Perhaps demon blade wielders could be hired by the local Shogun for various enterprises. Or could just get caught up in the flow of events happening around us, but I think being connected to the Shogun would make it easier to give the group drive and purpose.

2. Demon Blades I think should only give 1 to 2 abilities max. These abilities can either be some kind of enhancement like super strength or a usable technique of some kind.

3. Probably human only player characters, that way any special abilities come only from the demon blades.

Now for the Escaped Experiments Roleplay.

1. The experiments can be pretty eccentric and unique, with various abilities at their use.

2. The agents and creatures sent after the experiments will be constantly changing tactics and forms so you'll have to adapt to each threat or be captured.

3. The mad scientist will not be a slouch in combat but like a good many villains likes to use other means to accomplish their goals. Besides they will get some good data as they send different creatures after the experiments.
Alright looks like there is enough interest...for both of them. Guys sure know how to make things complicated. I'll try to develop both of the ideas a little more and then decide from there.
Alright so I have two different ideas for what could make interesting role plays at the moment.

1. The Demon Blades,

Idea for this one is a a somewhat historical Japanese setting but with yokai, demons, warlords, and the like. The players get their hands on some mythical demon blades that give immense power but curse the users in the process. The player characters find themselves getting involved in conspiracies and war and need to use their power to survive and defeat their enemies.

2. Escaped Experiments

This idea is that several experiments have escaped from a mad scientist's lair who will stop at nothing to get them back. The players would be either escaped experiments or maybe just people who get involved as the mad scientist sends various creations to track down and retrieve the experiments. Will probably have at least a semi-horror theme and modern based.

For either role play I think 4 players max should work since I've learned more than that is unwieldy. Thoughts and interest appreciated.

Tales of the Demon Blades

Story

In a land much like feudal Japan the Shogun, Oboro Tatsuhiki was able to unite his kingdom into a grand empire despite the many threats laid against him and the land. Clans were at war, and Youkai terrorized the commoners but then the young Shogun commissioned the creation of the Demon Blades. These weapons were fashioned from the corpses of insidious and powerful Youkai and beasts but it was not just their flesh that was incorporated into the weapons, but their essence. Using essence, these weapons were capable of fantastical feats but they came at a high cost, the sanity of those who wield them.

Despite their drawbacks, the weapon’s power quickly turned the tide of war on all fronts into the Shogun’s favor. Rebellion was crushed, Youkai were stamped out, and relative peace was brought to the land. The Shogun, realizing the vast amount of power at his disposal, decided to distribute the weapons to the most faithful of his clans. Those clans which were given the weapons quickly rose up in rank and power and some feared war but the Shogun had foreseen such an occurrence and made sure to keep the balance of power in check so no one clan could dominate the other. Also, knowing the power at their disposal the clans were weary at ever trying to start an actual war, since the devastation could easily destroy them if they were not careful. So the clans barter and bicker, trying to one up the other through back routes and see if they can acquire, or possibly make, more demon blades to gain an advantage.

It has been decades since the Era of the Demon Blades began, the weapons have passed through many hands and ways of blocking the corruption has made it possible for one to wield a demon blade for years at a time, as long as they are careful. The Demon Blade Institute was created, under direct supervision of the Shogun, which keeps the Blades in check and sends special operatives to keep track of those who use such weapons. It is also through this institution that certain missions for Demon Blade users are handed out when their services are required. Every user is thoroughly documented in the institutions archives and routinely examined to see how much longer they can use the weapons.

Rules

  • No Godmodding for obvious reasons. There may be times when you are at odds with another character and you fight so try to make the fight enjoyable for all parties involved.
  • You cannot go all crazy and expect to get out of a fight unscathed. Corruption mechanics are in effect so if you use your demon weapon too much, you just might be useless until you can get some serious help.
  • Romance can happen, but of course lets make sure no kiddies accidentally stumble in on something that should not be there. If you really feel you need to do that kind of stuff, there is the marvelous little invention of the PM.
  • The Shogun/moderator, yours truly, has final say in the matter. When I am not around I hope to find a co-gm that can take care of business.
  • Go out there and make a awesome story! We want action, adventure, intrigue, suspense, romance, surprises, and so on. Shape the world a little bit yourself will ya and don't leave it all to me.

Escaped Experiments (Title pending)

Diary Entry 4256: My newest batch of test subjects have proven to be quite enjoyable. It is quite rare that I get such wonderful specimens that so readily proves to me my work has merit. They all express quite a variety of quirks, some more impressive than others, but the largest feat is that these particular experiments have managed to retain their intelligence. Imagine the possibilities! Biological weapons with personalities of their own, capable of intelligent thought and strategy, they would prove the perfect addition to my plans once I find a way to break them.

Diary Entry 4268: I have perhaps made them too good, normal methods of control have proved ineffective, it is as if I have been cursed with unruly children which is something I am quite familiar with but unlike my family, they feel no great love for me. I did not want to use traditional mind control as it would stunt their imagination but I figured I had no choice; however, that also proved ineffective, I will need stronger measures if I am to bend them to my will.

I will need to transport them to one of my more advanced laboratories to finish the job. The possibilities I see are endless! Soon the world will be forced to recognize my talents and cater to my whims! No one will have the power to stand against my machinations!

Diary Entry 4270: An absolute disaster! The heavily armored transportation vehicle that was taking the specimens to one of my best labs met with an unforeseen accident. Some drunkard had a heart attack while driving a semi which overturned the vehicle and damaged the locks. By the time my operatives had arrived the experiments had already fled the vehicle and are now loose in Edge City! I will not be denied this breakthrough! I will hunt them down by any means necessary and bend them to my will on my pride as the doctor of this century!

*Bump*
The tournament will start and you can just post a round or two, getting to show off a little or whatever. These fighters will not be controlled by me as they are not villains to vanquish. You can either barrel through or actually have an interesting fight. Later I'll randomly pair characters up to duke it out and you'll need to decide before hand who is going to win so we don't spend too long on the tournament. Once that is over the mission commences and we head for space.
@Hebigami ShihoKind of interested in a Marine Role. Thinking Doctor would be good. Here is mostly completed character sheet.

"Those wishing to join the tournament please proceed directly to the stadium grounds. Upon entering you will automatically be entered into the tournament. For those who have never registered for the Proving Grounds before, an official will show up and register you. Anyone not joining" The voice said over the speakers said, explaining what the participants should do. The Proving Grounds operated on a very advanced system for who used the facilities. No one was allowed to join in the fights until they were registered in the system which used a neat ki tag system. Like a fingerprint, ki signatures are all unique and this system worked on that principle to track who entered tournaments and used the facilities in the proving grounds.

"Keh, well ain't that convenient. Rufus chuckled as he made his way to the location all the fighters were now congregating. "If I'm lucky maybe I'll be matched up with some of those annoying punks and I can teach them who the real fighter is." As Rufus was getting riled up and ready to rumble, Jeene was having quite the opposite reaction.

Jeene by this point had already registered, having never been to the Proving Grounds as a contestant before. It had been a very quick and painless process, all that was needed was a small sample of her Ki and the rest was paperwork. Of course, now that she was all registered she really had no choice but to enter. "Man, I really don't feel like doing this. I'd much rather be tinkering away making things. Well I need to make the most of it."

Just send it over.
We can certainly make it active.
