Maybe a useful inclusion would be to construct a simple tier system then have a thread where people could request classification of said character?
Yo skalla, nice to see you again.

I agree with you pretty much all the way, I think the tier system is an easier format for those who want to have more 'themed' battles

for example a swordsman fighting a swordsman, or some sort of warlock fighting a phantom with similar ability levels, and it also pushes some players to not just create demon vampire overlords who can summon meteors and do somersaults.

But its more of a optional guide than a rule, its there for people who need it.

I think the tier system does the exact opposite. Not only does it make it combat seem even more excessively complicated for newcomers, it often ends up separating characters that are likely similar in power scope but due to technicalities in different tiers. I've seen that one happen quite often in tier lists (not necessarily specifically the main one RPG used).

My system was more focused on separating the types of powers by the mechanics of them. Essentially was a three tiered system with a 'bridge' between them. T1 obviously was no powers. T2 was basic magical mechanics such as low scope fire blasts/elemental manipulation, summoning, etc. T3 was manipulation of reality/high level creation magic. Obviously this is an shortened version, but provides the concept. If you wanted mainly fist combat with mild powers you'd basically use a T1.5. Higher scope magic would fall under T2.5, but doesn't extend into the construction/deconstruction of reality/the universe.
I agree heavily though with Skall about the tier system. I feel like when they try to get constructed they end up getting too specific for certain instances while not providing the actual break in power they were designed to. I am used to a more simple system like Skall is (maybe a bit more specific), but there were effectively only a few levels of play and you could construct rules for the fight within those if needed for more specificity.

I used to have a character that used standard playing cards/illusion magic. It's a fun concept to play with. ^.^
I think Guild would best by coming up with its own tier system or at least expounding upon the one we have to make it better.

I'm actually working on making a new character that I tried before. He uses themed decks for combat with influences from Malazan. just have to figure outhow to properly work it.

I'd have to have a refresher in the old system that was utilized. It may be best to start from scratch though, to be honest.
I've stayed away from Arena stuff for awhile due to largely disagreeing with a large number of the delineations between tiers on a number of threads that are sponsored. The system a large majority of RPG uses is far different than what I learned. I think that can make it hard especially for people that have done combat in the past to transition to combat on here. Obviously you can't have any systems that cater to everyone, but it is something to take note of.
It does suck when this happens, but there isn't much that can be done.

The longest I've had something run was about 5-6 months. After that I lost the people that had said they were going to assist me in managing the thread, which made it impossible for me to go on.

Sometimes though I've noticed that people sometimes just don't sync up stylistically which causes people to leave - as in the others they are writing with don't inspire them and posting becomes a chore. Just some thoughts.
Interesting that I become active on the runescape roleplaying boards again, and then I find that Innue has responded to a thread of mine...

Regardless, If I used an image and got a message/post asking that the image I used to be removed, I would comply politely and not post it again. It is within their right to do so.

I'm glad I could make your day more interesting.
Interesting topic.

I've always felt that art is meant to be shared, properly credited, but shared. If someone's work sync's up with another's imagination, or better, inspire a character outright, I think using an image is entirely appropriate. Practically speaking though, with work's produced for and posted on the Internet to receive feedback/be displayed, it is difficult to enforce permission mostly because you can't be certain the person posting is actually the one who created the work anyway.

I do hope if an artist would ask for the work to be removed that it would be respected and removed.

Wow, you guys have really streamlined the weekly rolls. Nicely done. Brings a tear of organizational joy to my eyes.Good luck, Merry Christmas!

I should get my rolls done. I'm officially back. :D

Glad you are back!
I am going to start the event on like the 28th or 29th. I know this is awhile, but with the holidays and my travel it will be hard for me to reliably post.

Since everyone is busy with the holidays, if you haven't post about rolls, we will allow backlogging for these few weeks (but only because of the holidays - so no backlog habits please.)
