I don't understand why there are even ship wars on FT considering Mashima himself has actually confirmed the true pairings. And even if he didn't, the manga and anime both go to lengths to ensure the viewers know exactly who to ship. Which is not-so-coincidentally Mashima's confirmed pairings. :/
Though ship wars are fun with shows/literature that the creator didn't go ahead and say who will be with who.

Maybe there might be a flashback or something, it would be interesting to see her strength. And even funny if she ran into Gildarts when he was young and knew multiple women lol.That was close to what actually happened. A younger Gildarts ran into Ul in the far north when he was hunting a super dangerous monster. It attacked them and Ul dispatched it herself with ease, leaving quite the impression on Gildarts. This wasn't from the original manga but it is still canon as Mashima had the idea, just someone else drew the manga.
One of the things I had been hoping for in the canon was to see Ul (Gray and Lyon's mentor) actually fight someone. At this point I don't think I'll ever see something like that, but it has been mentioned several times that she was incredibly strong. It's always been vague but a recent showing of her capability implied she was approximately equal with Gildarts.
Gray and Lyon both use Ice Make magic of the Molding Magic subsection but their magic isn't quite the same. Gray creates inanimate objects and Lyon creates animals. Two different styles of the same base magic.
The nesting is real right now.

Mayt just got punched in the gut and mildly electrecuted. Besides the occasional minor muscle spasm and stomach pang, he can fight just fine.I don't think muscle spasms are very helpful in a fight. x3
