A quick introduction of myself and a few associates of mine

For real though, I'm a Brit who dabbles in most genres of roleplay, but tends to go for fantasy and sci-fi in particular. I prefer high casual, but will use a more or less advanced writing style if I like the concept.

Details and Background Information

Aelith - Psychological Description

Aelith is ruthless, ambitious and has no empathy whatsoever. However, she is also a Dark One meaning firstly that this is hardly a surprise and secondly that this is an understatement. One thing which is surprising, though probably still an understatement, is that she treats the witches she leads as something between sisters and daughters. She cares for them thoroughly, and the only reason Mephistopheles lets her is because he knows what Aelith will do if harm comes to any of them. If Mephistopheles is allowing something to happen, that on its own is a reason it shouldn't.
Living potentially forever takes its toll on most people - if someone else had lived as long as Aelith, they probably wouldn't plan to live much longer. Aelith, however, has such huge desires that it will take centuries longer to complete them, at least. Being a Dark One helps, too - the combination of the added ambition and a direct link to Mephistopheles' desires makes it difficult to give up.
Aelith - Brief History

Aelith was one of the original twelve conjurers who survived the summoning of Mephistopheles 644 years ago. She can't remember anything about her life before that point, but everything since with impressive clarity. The Ellorien Empire was around then, and still around now - Aelith hates it, for being one of the few things in her way that can stay in her way safely. She spent most of her life moving from town to town, practicing magic and kiling people. She quickly found her calling as a witch - The Red and Black Books came naturally to her, thanks to her Dark One blood. She spent a long time doing this, before realising she wanted to make a difference. Her various acts of cruelty were minor, one-time things. She wanted to change the world. She was going to bring down the Ellorien Empire.
Aelith spent centuries working on her project. She had time, and she had a goal. That was all she needed. First, she worked towards reuniting the original Dark Ones. It was difficult, and ended up being a waste of time - they were mostly dead, with the rest missing without a trace. She built Castle T'Kalen in the marshes on the northeastern borders of the Ellorien. Most people assumed it was haunted anyway. She recruited a number of witches, who would soon be made into Dark Ones, to join her. She taught them centuries' worth of knowledge, and made several guerilla attacks at various locations in the Ellorien. Now, her insurgence is ready to hit at full force.

Arena Information

Weapons and Gear

  • Parrying Blades - Aelith has a thin sheet of metal sewn into each of the forearms of her clothing. These are used to parry melee weapon attacks.
  • Lifehunter Amulet - Aelith wears a cruel amulet around her neck. Its enchantments come from The Black Book - its wearer can see any dead or close to death regardless of darkness or obstacles. Its wearer also becomes stronger and faster in the presence of the dead, the more corpses, the more powerful the effect. These effects stop functioning when worn by someone who has never killed, or who has only killed the wicked.
  • Concealed Dagger - Aelith keeps a dagger hidden up her sleeve, as a last resort. There is nothing special about the dagger, it has no unique abilities or magical effects. The blade is approximately eight inches long.

Skills and Special Abilities

  • Dark One Resiliency - Being a Dark One, Aelith is extremely resistant to most forms of attack. Severing her head, or destroying her brain or heart will kill her. Fire is also effective. Aelith doesn't heal the attacks, she simply isn't killed by them, so removing both arms would be little different from killing her, as would anything else which would destroy portions of her body, rendering her unable to attack.
  • Dark One Burning - Direct (skin to skin) contact with a Dark One is extrmely dangerous. Inherently evil creatures, such as demons or undead, will be unnafected, but most creatures will be burned at the touch. This process causes little damage, but is very painful and inflicts permenent scarring. Aelith can turn off this ability by concentrating.
  • Red Book Magic (Fire and Lava) - Aelith's primary form of attack involves the creation and throwing of fire and lava. Aelith can use this at long range to create a typical, non-explosive, "fireball" effect. At shorter ranges, she can summon a thin stream of lava. This is her most damaging ability, but the high density of lava limits it almost to melee range.
  • Red Book Magic (Induced Rage) - A spell Aelith created herself, this involves an actual, spoken taunt, as well as a subtle magic enhancement, designed to bring the target into a reckless fury. This is particularly effective against targets that rely on stealth or precision as they will often abandon these tactics in order to strike at Aelith as hard and as often as they can, relying on brute strength (which they may not have a lot of). However, targets of exceptional willpower may be able to resist this spell, and it may actually make certain fighters more dangerous.
  • Black Book Magic (Open Wounds) - Aelith's favourite, though possibly not the most useful practically, rips open any wounds the target is already suffering. These can be wounds inflicted in the same battle, or those that have not healed since a previous one. This only functions on wounds that bleed - not burns, bruises, etc. It is often debilitatingly painful and will cause at least as much damage as the original wound. While very powerful, this spell is limited in its reliance on a wound being present in the first place.
  • Black Book Magic (Doom Aura) - This is a permenent magical effect. Aelith coundn't turn it off if she wanted to. In a small radius around her (about 10 feet), colours become less vibrant, and small, non-sentient plants die. Living creatures feel a sense of dread, and find it more difficult to move quickly. However, evil creatures are not affected by this, and inherently evil creatures actually gain the opposite: they feel empowered and move faster.

@Nafear
I'm interested, though this would be my first time doing an arena rp. I'll be working on my character, hopefully it will be up soon.

Also, you said mental attacks would be banned. Would something like that be okay if direct physical contact was required (I was thinking something like a melee attack, but actual effects would be a mental rather than physical injury)?
"Oh, er, no problem." This has to stop. Moryama's mess at the front door had only been rescued by the infamy of the job she's about to hire Boom for. The same thing is not going to happen here, so she needs to step up her game. She swallows. "Let's get down to business, we both have more important things to do than to sit around chatting." That wasn't too bad, she thinks. Maybe a little cliché, but it had authority in its tone. "I doubt you'll find this particularly surprising, but I represent one megacorporation, and we want you to strike at another. I'm Shiawase and they're Renraku, if you're at all interested. I suppose now you're wondering what makes this mis- run" Moryama corrects herself. "any different from any other run of this kind, primarily why so much is being payed for it. In short, you want to know what the catch is. The catch is that it's meant to go wrong. A seperate heist team is going after the real target, we want you to break in and cause as much damage as possible to Renraku's databanks as possible. The databanks are Renraku's most important asset; the only reason it's not dead already is because everyone's scared there'll be something incriminating or otherwise dangerous stored there. This means that they'll do anything they can to protect them, and as a side effect it will diminish Renraku's reputation severely. This could make Renraku's defence seem a bluff, potentially encouraging other megacorporations to deliver the coup de grace on one of their weaker rivals. Regardless, the primary objective is to cause as big a distraction as possible, so the heist team can perform their run with less resistance. You will be provided with a communications device to linked to them in order to effectively coordinate your movements. So, any questions?"
The bouncer replies to Boom's question, and slips in a piece of advice: "Your girl's arrived. Table 14, door in the left corner, by the bar. Soundproofed. Oh, and make sure to talk to Sazama once your business is concluded. He's the bartender, just ask for Soveriegn. They'll know what you mean". Before he addresses the next guest, the troll sees something, narrows his eyes. He pulls something resembling a walkie-talkie and begins to speak. "It's Shishido. Get someone to check out the abandoned building across the street. Thought I saw something, fourth floor in the window closest to the front of Mercury".

Inside, Mercury is impressive. Taking up three levels, with no less than two dozen soundproofed rooms for conducting busniness in. Some of these rooms also include higher-level security, such as white noise generators, for those who pay for it, but these have not been implemented in every room in order to maintain busniness from the less fortunate of Mercury's customers. The bar is stocked with every spirit people drink and a few they don't. There is a "Chalkboard", which is actually a huge vidscreen on the back wall that lists anything a shadowrunner or a Johnson might be interested in, updated whenever one of Mercury's guys finds something. If you need a job, a runner, a new gun or a place to hide anything new and worth having will be listed there. The bartenders are excellent at their jobs, and probably the second place you'd go if you needed something that a runner would need (the Chalkboard being the first). They know the streets well, but none more so than Sazama Toshiyuki, an ex-runner called Sovereign. Rumour has it (correctly, for once) that he's the owner of Mercury, but no one really knows. Regardless, if he isn't, they don't stand a chance of knowing who it really is. Mercury even has it's own equivalent of a hit squad - half a dozen of the sixth world's best, with military grade gear, training, and experience that only running can get you. They say it's for protection from a police raid. While it's true that they would come in handy in such a situation, having dozens of people with guns in one building tends to mean you're not scared of that sort of thing. The real reason Mercury has them is because these are very dangerous people. There are no bar fights in Mercury, because no one wants Mercury's team to get involved. Things need to be that way if you're gonna allow guns and alcohol in the same place.
Nicholas Chen

Location: Chen Residence, Homeroom
Interacting with: The class

"Just because morning is mathematically probable doesn't mean it can can come when I didn't invite it."
Nicholas was mumbling as he got out of bed. He found a white shirt and dark trousers and put them on without much thought. He had more important things to worry about, and he didn't normally put tonnes of thought towards style anyway. Even so, he was aware that with a some good acting he could look like he was going to a funeral.

People who didn't know the Chen family assumed they lived "traditional" lives according to their race, although few actually had any idea what that meant. People who did thought they lived very untraditional lives. Neither was actually true - they had their own traditions, just not the ones that stereotypes had given them. After being a part of America for so long, and being aware of it, the American way more closely resembled the Chen way than any other stereotypes anyone could give them. Nicholas ate fried eggs and bacon for breakfast and made sure to skim-read world news on his computer before he left. He also, of course, made sure to grab the assignment that was due today. He would have willingly punched a brick wall if he had gone through the effort of doing a good job of it but have wasted that effort by leaving it behind. He wasn't a nerd, but he cared about success. He picked up a black trench coat (because look at the evidence - if you're badass, you're probably wearing a trench coat and if you're not you should be) and walked out the door.

Nicholas had never been close with his sister, Alicia, so she made a point of leaving about ten minutes earlier so she had time to walk - she didn't own a car. Nicholas didn't have a problem with this behaviour - she was saving him fuel. Regardless, he drove himself to school, listening to some jazz.

Nicholas got in the homeroom a little later than he'd usually prefer. After a few minutes, he figured out what was being discussed (though it seemed too formal a word), and made his own contribution.
"It seems like about 95% per cent of the people in this room would be pleased with something involving either a beach or a mountain. My suggestion? We go to Italy. Hit the Apennines for however long. Then we drive to the coast and spend the other half there. Mountains, beaches, and Rome is close to both the coast and the Apennines, so we could spend a couple of days there on the way through as well. If you guys don't wanna go with that, my vote goes to the Alps. As for cash, pretty much any skill has people willing to pay for someone to teach them or do it for them - all we need is the internet."
Today irl is Nicholas' IC 17th birthday.
