Yea. Never play cards with Mat. Unless you plan to kill him if you lose, in which case it'd be luckier for him to lose than win.

Oh? Is that how they used their semblence? Then you don't have to worry about that about Valin, his semblance is like a much toned down version. The luck only works on him, not any outside forces. So, a stray bird won't randomly come out of nowhere and attack his opponent. So, basically, only his reloading patterns and shots are really affected. Plus, it takes alot of concentration to even pull it off with the added ability that it drains alot of energy right out of him. So, he needs to be the one controlling the fight rather than his opponent.
Matrim was from Wheel of Time. Not RWBY. And his luck didn't make random birds attack either. It just, affected the world around him in ways that where very lucky, for him.
