While the meat was cooking, and shutting off the other distractions, Aldous was dutifully working on crafting his blade. Lucky for him, in addition to the metals and paint we had received from Tao, Aldous also had a few scraps of peach wood left over. He whittled and sanded the wood down to thin pieces, comparing the hilt to his own hand for measuring. The wood, of course, was for comfort. The pleasant smell it gave off was a bonus. He feared splinters out of its next wielder, though had no lacquer on hand to properly finish it off. Aldous pouted at this, though finished off the sword.

The pommel was constructed entirely out of metal. It and the tang were threaded, using the tang first to create a mold. Aldous put on the cup-like, metal hand guard, the wooden handle, and finally screwed on the pommel. Standing away from the other three as well as the wolf, Aldous gave the sword a few swings to test that everything was put together well enough. Next, he tested the scabbard, making sure the blade fit in just right. He smiled, looking at his finished product, proud that he could do so much with so little time and resources.

"There" he sighed contently.

As he did, it seemed Tao had already begun setting the table. It was crude, though Aldous was in far too good a mood to complain. "Not exactly the friends I would have asked for, but I'm sure they will grow to be fine young men after their time here and with me." Aldous told himself. For the first time since he began the process, Aldous took off his thick, leather work gloves then wiped the sweat off his face. He was getting fairly hungry. The gloves were left to air out, as far from the wolf's reach as possible. A handkerchief wiped down Aldous's sweaty hands. Next, he reached for his wallet, taking out proper currency for Tao.

"I don't suppose you've a place for us to properly wash our hands, do you? And may I ask your selection of beverages first before asking for a cold glass of water?"

1. Finished the pommel
2. Tested the sword
It seemed that Aldous was so caught up forging his blade that he hadn't even noticed the new, portly stranger who had made his appearance into Tao's abode. "No doubt smelling the food..." Aldous mumbled, quirking his brow at this new person. Aldous was already surprised once that day by a person he thought little of and he seemed intent not to make it happen a second time, certainly not in a row. Judging by his appearance, Aldous believed he was not going to have a very difficult time with such a thing.

Not attempting to pay so much attention to the newcomer, Aldous began work on the sheathe for his blade, roughly measuring and cutting the pieces of peach wood. His ears paid attention, if reluctantly due to that they were all in the same area.

"I am unfamiliar with these Stormbearer Isles, or what have you, though if they are your people, I must say that they've been spoiling you..." Aldous scanned Nate as his voice dropped to a whisper... "and it doesn't appear that you've been traversing anything as of late at least." Aldous wiped the sweat off his face using his shoulder. Like the others, Aldous had gotten a smell of the cooked pork, though only then took the opportunity to take in the whole aroma. "Well Solomon, Nate, or whatever you wish to call yourself;" Aldous returned to a normal speaking voice; "I am Aldous van Rees. Call me van Rees, and this-" Before Aldous could speak another word, a wild animal skittered past. It was not an unusual sight- Aldous felt he had already become acquainted with two wild beasts.

Then, another, larger creature came running straight for Tao's foundry. Aldous immediately moved out of the way, more out of instinct than anything else. He nearly screamed, and his face was sure proof of it, before he heard the whimpering of the canine and the sizzling of its flesh followed by the smell of singed fur. Regaining his composure, or at least attempting to, Aldous curled his face into a look of disgust at the wolf, then up at the girl.

"Oh. Well look at me. Attracting all kinds of attention" he mumbled.

In a more audible tone, Aldous introduced himself. "I'm Aldous van Rees, these are my associates Tao and Solomon Nate Doveheart. It's a pleasure to meet you." he rushed, before turning his attention to the two pieces of wood he had measured to the length of the blade. Like Tao, he was working on a scabbard. Unlike Tao's approach, Aldous made it so that the wood fit together like a puzzle, connected also with bands and screws which he had fashioned out of the little remaining steel. Then, he scolded himself internally. Aldous had not picked up any decorative materials. It was not as if any person would simply carry jewels with them wherever they had gone, and thus Aldous could not show off one of his other many specialties in sword smithing.

Quickly, Aldous set aside little bits and pieces of steel and iron he had remaining and began measuring out the hilt, the guard, and the pommel as well as imagining their design, all with haste, keeping in mind he was timed.

1. Measured out and put together sheathe
2. Began design of handguard

Ah right, uhhhhh in terms of time I'd probably say fantasy industrial era Japan? I'm not too entirely sure because I didn't have a frame of reference in mind. In terms of magic, it's definitely high fantasy. If you want the grindwheel then I'll allow it.

And yeah, I did forget about using the tree, I was going to say you could because the God was moving soon anyway so it'd be fine.

But my dude, Japan didn't go through an industrial revolution the same time the rest of the world did due to how isolationist they were. Most things happened in like the two places where they were allowed to, which was like two port cities, the only one I can name being Nagasaki. Japan didn't really industrialize until the late 19th century when the United States sent over some ships and forced them to open up, after which the Japanese sent scholars to western nations to learn industry. By then, the first industrial revolution had already passed.

By then, we already had means of mass producing pig iron to build bridges and such.
Alrighty, I'll edit my post I guess tomorrow and hopefully sooner than later for Jerkchicken's sake.

Edit: Never mind, that was easier than expected.
1. Make the sword
2. Make the sheathe
The twisted bar was molded onto the iron bar and reintroduced to the furnace. He took it out, the combined metal glowing hot orange. It was clear that they were still two distinct pieces. Aldous knew simply the color that it was not hot enough to melt. Combining the pieces was Aldous's job. It was dull at first, Aldous pounding what would be the length of the blade into a thin piece with abstract whorl patterns and a bright luster in spite of the dark color of the steel itself. The tang, of course, had already been shaped, used to introduce the steel to more head as he pounded in the final details. Before he or Tao knew it, the blade looked close to a finished product.

The accents of the blade suggested it was to be a dual-edged blade with a broad body. The length of the tang suggested it was to accommodate a single person's hand, Aldous measuring it of course to his own. The core of the blade was pounded flat, where the pattern welding was most apparent. "Not as intricate as I'd have liked, but it will have to do considering the time. At Tao's monologue, Aldous paid little attention of course. He had more important things than to listen to a member of the common rabble bantering about this and that.

"Ah. Planning. That's an awful lot of hindsight for someone of your... stature." Tao remarked. He couldn't help but agree, however, to Tao's following words. Surprisingly soon for him, Aldous flashed a smile, trying to hold himself back, before finally laughing. "In spite of your crude language, your words hold truth. I like that. Finesse and making love. Yes." he laughed. "Could I ask you one more favor? I want you to help me create paint, just to give the sheathe a bit of color."

Aldous wanted to ask sooner rather than later, of course. with that, he picked up the larger pieces of peach wood and examined them. "I guess this will have to do," he examined the wood, "I've unfortunately got no magic to work with."

1. Banged the metal into a proper, if dull blade
2. Asked Tao for paint
It was surprising to the boy Aldous how intricate the personal area of this new person was. "Oh. So you want me to be your kitchen assistant." Aldous spat, not entirely agreeing to help, though doing so simply as a gesture of kindness and perhaps pity. Aldous never cooked before- he always had assistants to do such a thing for him. He was always busy doing other things which he had deemed more important. "Your language. It's incredibly crude." Aldous murmured a remark as he played with the fatty piece of pig in his hand. He nearly wanted to vomit. It was definitely differently from the steel he was used to working with.

His jacket was hung up by the entrance and his sleeves were rolled up. His tie was removed and placed in the pocket of his jacket.

Though normally he would have simply walked off, Tao had been cordial for the most part, even if his speech was a little low-brow. Aldous prepared the recipe, more or less simply listening to the other boy. Aldous did not want to admit, but he was much less experienced in such a field and did not want to appear so.

When he finished cooking the meal, Aldous leaned down, back against the foundry-grill to rest briefly before removing his refined ingots from it. As he did, Aldous took a peek toward Tao who seemed to breaking his own metal down. Aldous washed his hands and donned a pair of work gloves, which he carried in a satchel.

"Alchemy?" Aldous asked. He was melting down his own pieces, getting them hot enough to be worked. Of course, he did not want to over-produce his iron, otherwise he would introduce far too much carbon into the product through the process of heating, making it far more rigid than he would like. The soft metal was extruded like taffy between a hammer and anvil into a thin, lengthy bar. It was the core of Aldous's blade. "It's not a very common occurrence in my own kingdom and the smiths I've trained under had little experience with it. I'm fascinated that you of all people had the ability to use such a thing." he remarked, curious about the other boy's process.

The pieces of black steel were also processed. This time, Aldous had no problem working it, taking his time in the production in order to get the perfect final product. The steel was twisted and worked into a strange shape, though still more-or-less a bar. It was part of Aldous's signature technique- his pattern welding.
Aldous was just about to leave so that he could be the first at the forge- before anyone else had a chance to put their dirty, greasy fingers on anything. Then, before Aldous could get far, another boy stopped him. At the sheer sound of the boy's voice, Aldous rolled his eyes. For a moment, he wanted to simply ignore the boy; shrug him off as if he hadn't existed, playing it off as if he hadn't heard; though reluctantly, Aldous turned around to face him. A lanky blonde boy, not that Aldous could judge him very well on the former. Aldous examined the other boy contemptuously- he looked exactly as revolting as Aldous's mental picture.

"What do you want?" Aldous sighed, putting on minimal effort to hide his disgust. "Loser?" Aldous laid his ores on the ground where he could see them. "First off, you need to wash your hair properly, then I suggest getting it trimmed. It's dreadfully unkempt. Oh. And you want to invite me lunch as well? Splendid, allow me to bring my handkerchief. Perhaps I'll even offer to pay," Aldous replied in a patronizing tone, "and then maybe we'll just stop this entire process as the others finish their work before we do. No. I do not wish to take a break. I am not interested in your food. I am certainly- wait- come again?"

It seemed Aldous was offered an opportunity for some alone time, even if it meant he had to do a bit of extra cleaning before beginning his work. "Well, my... gre... friend... Tell me about this place. We've not been here very long. Have you already taken the time to install your own foundry? I should have my own servants do such a thing. I didn't even know it was allowed. I really should have better judgement, but for now I shall believe you. If you do not recognize me, I am Aldous von Rees the First. There is no the Second and I'm not degenerate enough that there will be one soon. Now, take me to this "place" of yours."
Team GRRR

Has a pretty nice ring.
Ain't it a bit jerkish to take more than you need on this kind of challenge?

That's kind of a non-issue here, as GM stated earlier.

You won't have to worry about resources too much, I've calculated it's roughly enough for about 12 swords so as long as everyone takes just the amount they need it'll work out, but if we actually run out I'll add some extra materials because that'd be my fault for not calculating it well enough ^^;
