TURN BACK

"Dammit!" Turn Back growled as Reaper poofed inside. "Idiot, don't do that without back!" He muttered, more to himself than anyone else. He began stalking towards the house before stopping and looking at Tank. "Hey Tank... Before I head in there, I need to ask you a favor. Punch me in the face."

"... Did I hear you right? You want me to punch your face?" The goliath asked, confusion evident on his face. And a fair question it was, considering the man could probably crush the heads of lesser men with nary a thought.

"Yes. I'm going in after that idiot, and I'm going to need some extra power in case everything goes to shit. I'll be fine, I can take hits."

"And odd request... But fine, if you insist." Tank said, rubbing his hands together.

"As hard as you can please."

The sound that followed, by all rights, should have been a terrible cracking noise. It was instead a dull thud as a flash of purple energy enveloped Tank's fist as soon as it connected with Turn Back's face, the energy diffusing into the smaller man's skin, his veins glowing with the energy. Turn Back shuddered as his body stored the energy, that was a big blow. He nodded his thanks to the behemoth of a man and stepped inside the dark house. He heard footsteps coming from upstairs and crept that way, picking the steps that seemed the sturdiest. He unfolded his staff and held it to the side as he arrived to the top, watching as Scarlet Shifter appeared and confronted Reaper. Something about her was familiar...

Turn Back cleared his throat, announcing his presence as he stepped up, holding his hands out to the sides. "We don't want to fight, Miss Shifter." He said, keeping his voice low and calm. "We believe you're in danger, that Umbra or his minions are following you. We've been sent by Ditch to help, to bring you somewhere safe where you can recover... And maybe help us fight him. Also I swear I've seen you before."
TURN BACK

Jason Graves sat at his desk at work, stealing glances at an unfinished email in between taking phone calls. The extra money Ditch had given him last night suddenly made it possible to get something done that he'd been meaning to do for a long time. Jason finished the email and sat back, staring at the unsent document. Was this what he wanted to do? He could save that money, wait for a rainy day... He thought back to the other vigilantes, and how their 'team' looked more like a ragtag group of thugs, apart from one or two people in actual costumes.

Jason's thought process was interrupted by his personal phone buzzing, he pulled it out of his pocket and saw a text from Ditch. Time to move. He stopped by his boss's office and let him know he was heading out a little early before rushing out of the building, grabbing his backpack. He cursed to himself as he realized he hadn't changed before he left, and had to duck into a nearby McDonalds to get out of his monkey suit. He walked out of the bathroom a few moments later in his street clothes, bandanna tucked safely into his back pocket.

One Short Bus Ride Later

Turn Back stepped off the bus, not for the first time cursing his inability to get to various areas of the city in a more dignified way. He looked up at the mid-afternoon sun, squinting as he ducked into the shadows. He'd never been out this early before, but with something this big some things had to change. He wrapped his bandanna over his mouth and nose and began sprinting towards the given address, reabsorbing the expended power of each step to fuel himself. He approached the hideout of Scarlet Shifter, surprised to find it practically in ruins. Had Tank gone in already?

He caught sight of a group of three nearby, judging from the outfits they were his teammates. He skidded to a stop near them, approaching rather more quietly. "Looks like I'm the late one this time. Sorry about that, everyone. So what's the plan? How are we getting Tank in?"

TURN BACK

Turn back left the building, heading out into the streets to think. He spent some time scaring some junkies and looked for something to do. After walking the city for a couple more hours, Turn Back found himself again outside the abandoned building where, if all went well, this new 'team' would be able to do some good. He felt a heavy weight in his pocket from the money Ditch had slipped him, and a strange conflicted feeling. He'd heard of money burning a hole in your pocket of course, but this was ridiculous. He pushed open the door to the building, snorting in amusement as he saw the hole in the wall and stage where Tank had blown through, and scanned the rest of the room. There was Ditch, sitting on the stage with her laptop. Turn Back sighed and walked towards her, sitting on the edge of the stage near her and clearing his throat.

Ditch didn't even look up at him when he cleared his throat. She simply kept on typing, her eyes glued to the screen. "Good morning," She said cheerfully, still not looking up. "Mn.. probably isn't morning. Or is it? Eh. I don't care. Whatcha need?" Ditch was wearing glasses now, which she adjusted like a proper nerd as she typed a couple more things before finally resting her gaze on the vigilante. Then, she yawned.

"Morning, technically. Early, early morning." Turn back leaned forward a bit and lowered his voice. "About the, uh... that money. I don't want to sound ungrateful, because that's actually... A huge help. But I feel like I need to ask; is it stolen? If you don't want to give specifics I get that, but I kind of need to hear it..."

A small smile rose on Ditch's face. "No, it's not stolen. It was given to me by the Shrine family." Turn Back, as well as many others, would probably know the Shrine family as one of the richest in Millennium, though one of the only wealthy families that weren't corrupt. "They wouldn't let me decline.. it was too much. So I use it when necessary. Bought off a few junkies around the area, they won't be coming back. If you need any more, please. I've got quite enough."

Turn Back's eyes widened at the mention of the Shrine's, they had practically built the city and by all accounts had stayed pretty clean over the years. He nodded slowly and gave Ditch a small smile. "Well... Thank you then. It really does help. A lot." He got up to go, resolving never to ask Ditch for money. It was one thing to accept a gift, and another entirely to expect one. A stray though gave him pause before leaving though, and he turned around. "Ditch, why me? Why did you bring me into this? I'm not that special, my power's not that impressive, I bring massive debt to the table and practically nothing else. Why bother?"

Ditch nodded. "I'm glad." As he moved to walk away, she turned back to her computer screen, but looked back up once he spoke again. "First off, your power is valuable. It will grow, and you will be much stronger then you already are. You are special. By being who you are, you're already really fucking special." She said, taking the laptop and moving it off her lap. "And come on. We've all got shit we carry. Massive debt isn't the least of our problems.. and if you let me help you, that wouldn't be a problem at all." She stood up, crossing her arms. "You're a good guy, Jason. A really damn good guy. One who, right now, could have one-way-ticket out of all his problems. And I know you won't take it." She shook her head. "People like you.. they're rare in this city. They really are. Don't underestimate yourself."

Turn Back paused, blinking slowly. This was new territory for him, someone who seemed to believe in him and what he could do. Nobody had ever shown him this before. Well, except for Emma, but sisters don't count. He nodded to Ditch, swallowing a lump in his throat and smiled a bit. "Thank you. That, um... I don't think even you know how much I needed something like that. Anything you need Ditch, anything I can do for you; you have my number." With that, Turn Back turned towards the door and headed back for the streets, standing a little bit taller...
Approved! Move it on over to your character tab when you're ready!
Turn Back

Turn Back smiled wanly at Black Rose, patting her shoulder and nodding. He wasn't very good at this comforting thing, but he tried his best. If they were going to be working together, it would be best to-- Is that money?! Turn Back's attention shifted away from everything to the bills settling on the ground. For some reason it seemed Dicth was carrying a backpack full of hundred dollar bills, and the breath caught in his throat. That much money would... No, stop that. Not going to steal from teammates. Bad. Bad Jason. He cleared his throat and tried desperately to pay attention, perking up when he realized they were getting down to business, to defeat the baddies. He recognized the names used, but didn't know of them very well. However, judging from the murmuring, he guessed that Shifter would be the heavy hitter of the two...

"I'll take the polymorph witch." He said, grabbing his folded staff and extending it to full length, leaning on it for support. "If she's as tough as you all say she is, we'll need a way to stop her, and I can help with that. Do we have any leads?"

Discworld

The Secret King

They say the world is flat. They say that if you sail too far off into the sea, barring running smack into another continent, you'll fall right off the edge. They say you can only trust your eyes, and your eyes say that the world looks flat, and so must be.

They are correct.

The world is mostly flat, except for some valleys and mountains. It is circular, like a giant disc. This Disc is supported on the backs of four massive elephants. These beasts in turn stand on the shell of a gargantuan turtle, the great A'Tuin. But what does the turtle stand on?

Nothing. If you knew anything about turtles, you'd know they don't stand as a tortoise does. It swims. And this great turtle does swim, through the vastness of space. To where, and for what purpose, nobody on the Disc knows. But A'Tuin keeps us safe and provides us with adventure as we follow her to what may very well be the end of the universe.

On the disc, there are several continents and many city-states. The largest and stinkiest of these is Ankh-Morpork, a cesspool of technology and advancement.

For the past several hundred years, Ankh-Morpork has been ruled by a Patrician, an elected-for-life official who runs the city. The kingship of the city was cut to an abrupt end by Old Stonefaced Vimes of the City Watch, and since then the city has been in the iron grip of the dictators who do more for the populace than the monarchy ever did.

The current Patrician of the city is Havelock Vetinari, a tyrant who rules the city in his iron fist. A strong believer in 'one man, one vote', he also believes himself to be that one man with the vote. Under his rule, the city has seen a drop in (unlicensed) crime, the resurgence of the once-defunct City Watch, a revival of the postal system, bank and mint, fast communication between cities, and most recently a working rail system. He also has overseen the growth of minority acceptance in the city, starting with Dwarves and Trolls and moving on into Golems and most recently Goblins, long regarded as bogeymen from children's stories.

However, there have been rumors in the city. Rumors of a valid heir to the ancient throne. One who loves the people and will make the city a happy place to live for them instead of just a functional one. Recently a group of brave adventurers returned from a secret mission with the missing piece to the puzzle: The lost crown of the line of kings. With that, words has begun to spread, of rebellion and change. If the king is found, and can be convinced to take the throne, the city could flourish and thrive.

On the other hand, if everything is left as it is, the city has a major advancement over other city-states. A well regulated army, sated populace, control over the rails, and a thriving economy.

The city is calling for people to rise up. The question is... For what side?

Alright folks, let's jump in! For those of you who don't know, Discworld is a fantasy-satire series, designed to bring light to dumb tropes or parody real life issues. However, that isn't quite the point of this RP, this is to explore the world that has been set in front of us. In this case, that is the city of Ankh-Morpork. The city is racing towards a schism, and you'll have to decide what side you end up on, and who to support.
