KRAKEN
January 1st, 10:30 AM
Justice Station, Earth Orbit

Kraken clenched his fist tightly as he heard the message from his fellow League member Wonder Woman come through. This was a promising start to the New Year. He watched carefully as Grim led the other two back out of the airlock, finally resigning himself to trusting the armor-clad tech giant. If there had been a problem, Grim would have moved them inside, where Kraken could actually be useful. He couldn't do much in the vacuum of space, after all. Why had he even spent the holiday on the Station? Was his desire for isolation during this time of transition into a new year really that ingrained into him after the exile from his home? That he would drive himself away from even his own planet, his friends, his (dare he even think it?) family? Truth told, he was happy the call from Wonder Woman had come through, even though it promised nothing but danger. It would give him something to do, and get him back on the ground. Assuming Metropolis went well, he'd make his way up to Halifax afterwards, see about catching the last of the celebrations with Champion and his family.

But for now, business. Radioing back to his teammate, Kraken confirmed that he would be on his way, and headed back to his tank room in order to ensure he had all of his necessary gear.

OVERCHARGE
January 1st, 11:00 AM
Abandoned Building, Gotham City
Interactions: @Blazion

Overcharge paused as the slab flipped over, feeling the remains of the building rumble around him. What he had done was reckless, dangerous, and ill-advised. And, as he heard the sound of ragged breathing in the terrifying silence that followed, it was exactly the right thing to do. Leaping back into action, Overcharge began removing more manageable pieces of rubble from the newly excavated pit. The building was unstable, and becoming more so by the minute. Overcharge could feel the vibrations of the building picking up as he finally tossed aside a hunk of concrete and uncovered a panicked, grasping hand.

"I've got you!" He called out, unphased as a chunk of plaster hit the ground not five feet away. Taking a moment to clear the man out, Overcharge looked over the dazed construction worker. "Thank OSHA for hard hats." He muttered, examining the cracked dent in the mans bright yellow protective gear. "Right, looks like nothing major is busted, let's get you out of here!" The vigilante said, eyeing the crumbling structure around them. Limping the dazed construction worker out away from his crater, Overcharge got him to the exit just as another floor caved in, which would have certainly killed the man if he had still been in there. Passing him off to a waiting rescue team, Overcharge paused to wave and pose for the cameras from the gathered reporters and onlookers before sprinting in the opposite direction of some very dedicated Meta-chasing police goons.

Keying back on his direct line to Jasper's radio, Over charge sent his message as he began scaling a nearby fire escape, keeping an eye on Gotham's Tank. "Ms. Commissioner, your missing construction worker has been delivered safely. Probably has a massive concussion among other things, but I think he'll pull through. Which means no manslaughter charges for our new friend, I assume?" He asked, hopping the gap between several building until he was above where the Tank was parked. "I know you have a job to do. I'm not asking you just let her go. But Jai, don't let her become another casualty of this whole war on non-humans. You're in a position in this city where you can really do some good. More good than I can do, honestly. More than even Zoey can, with all her charities and humanitarian drives. You can really change things. And I know you want to. Give this one a chance."

SARAKA KUTE, BLUE LANTERN

Saraka was startled at the sudden appearance of the figures. They must have detected him, which was... All in all unsurprising, considering the Green Lantern was with him. Still, he felt his Ring react to his surprise, manifesting the emotion as a physical construct. That was a quirk of his, a strange interaction to his Ring. When feeling certain basic emotions, such as surprise or curiosity, the Ring would manifest these feeling as symbols, usually translated to the native language of his audience. In this case, Saraka watched in alarm as a bright blue exclamation point shimmered into being in front of him. Nodding slowly to the gathered audience, Saraka dismissed the construct and examined his hosts. One human, highly advanced armor. Very impressive, the suit would likely rival even some of the most technologically advanced races in the universe. The Lantern, a half-Human, half Vespasian hybrid. An interesting looking fellow to say the least, his assignment should be at least as interesting. And finally some kind of... Energy being? Encased in an obsidian black shell. Saraka's Ring warned of high potential levels of radiation. The creature didn't match any records of alien races known. Interesting...

The Lantern was speaking to him now, Saraka snapped back to attention. He spoke slowly, feeling more than hearing as the Ring translated his words almost before they could leave his toothy maw. It was always a strange experience. "Preston Westfield, it is an honor to meet you. I am General Saraka Kute, of Chtho'Am. My mission was a secret one, to seek you out and offer my aid and services. There is a great threat being leveled against the Green Lantern Corps, directed against its newest members. My superiors are offering aid to all of the new Green recruits, and I have been tasked with assisting you."

The Shark/Dog-like creature turned his attention back to the collar-like ring around his own neck, the soft blue glow growing brighter as images began to flash from it. Desolate fields growing full of crops, decimated forests sprouting trees, dried up riverbeds flowing with life-giving water once again. "I wield with me the Blue Lantern Ring. We are a secret Corps, even your Guardians only suspect our existence. We command the Blue Light of Hope. We serve as humanitarians for the universe, healing the sick and righting wrongs. Our rings are very much like your own, but powered by our Hope instead of Will. The two work in tandem however, and if we can find common ground, Green Lantern, Preston Westfield, the both of our Rings will unlock their true potential, and you will be able to defend against the mighty evil which seeks out you and your fellow rookies."

Kraken stared through the porthole of the airlock with concern, worrying about the position Grim was in. Though there was a Lantern in there, an Morgan's son if he was to be believed, the radiation coming from the strange obsidian man was at dangerous levels. Kraken wanted nothing more than to be present at this meeting taking place beyond the thick metal door, but common sense prevailed. Not only did Kraken not have much in the way of radiation protection, aside from some very basic protections provided by his armor, or possibly the slightly more robust protections of a space suit, but his particular skill set would not help much here in any way that Grim would appreciate. And if the disgraced Atlantean had learned anything from the decade of working with the armored genius, it was best to keep on his good side. For now, he kept his hand over the door controls, ready to intervene if things escalated, but not a moment before...

SARAKA KUTE
Outer Sol System, approaching planet designated Earth
January 1st, 10:30 am

Interactions: (Potentially) @Blazion, @pyroman

A blue streak of light crossed the barrier of cold space that made up this system's protective asteroid belt, breaking into the steadily warming light of its young sun. Up ahead was a small microplanet, locked in a stable orbit, the furthest of the celestial bodies in this star's stable zone. Slowing his approach, Blue Lantern Saraka Kute examined the sight before him. His ring enhanced the planets and moons, giving him an accurate map of the system. Third planet from the star. His soon-to-be partner. As the strange, shark/dog-like creature drifted closer to the planet, he decided quickly to use his remaining travel time to learn about the world he would be staying at for the forseeable future. Thankfully, the Blue Ring had access to many of the details stored by the Green Lanterns, and it looked like the previous Lantern for this sector had taken extensive notes about his home planet.

A quick scan of the basic information left the alien being curious to learn more. The Humans were an incredibly adaptable species, adjusting to life practically everywhere on their globe, in every climate. A small subset of them had even evolved to be amphibious, like his own species. Then there were the other Terrans, the ones only recently returned to the planet. Magic-sustained creatures, the basis of many myths and legends from Earth, if the notes were to be trusted. And now, a population of creatures called 'demons', hailing from some extraplanar realm. This planet would be fascinating. As his journey continued and he drifted past further planets, Saraka read about the different cultures of Earth, his head positively spinning with the new information, and completely unsure of what would be useful to him and what wouldn't. The history of this world was bloody and tragic, much like his own, and yet where his world had ended up with two major cultures fighting each other, this one had continued to splinter. There were easily hundreds of nations, cultures, customs, and millions of ways to offend the Terrans. What might be considered polite in one culture could be seen as a declaration of war in another. Saraka hoped that his partner would have more information about this than he currently had, or at least would be able to help figure it all out.

After hours of study, Saraka finally began approaching his destination. Slowing to a relative crawl, he took in the sight of the space station before him. Impressive, for the current level of technology and the upheavals the planet had had recently. His ring glowed brightly, suggesting that his charge was within. Masking the presence of his own ring, Saraka drifted closer to examine the metal behemoth. He didn't want to spook the occupants, but he was curious to see how he might contact them...

OVERCHARGE
Abandoned building, Gotham
Janurary 1st, 11:00 AM

Interactions: @Mr Nim, @Blazion

From atop the roof of a nearby building, Jason Graves watched the chaos below. He had been in the area when the building went down, but before he could get in the cops had shown up. So now it was up to plan B. Watch from a distance, gather intel, intervene if necessary. Radio chatter was scattered, was there had been talk of a Meta involved. One worker, unharmed. One other, possibly still in the rubble. Jay's heart felt like ice at that last one. He had no love for this particular company, any M-Word in the city had an inkling of where they stood on the whole Meta/Monster/Mage rights front. But he also knew from experience, many of the guys at the street level working for them were in tough spots themselves. Gotham was a hard city to survive in. If she didn't force you to compromise your morals, well... You probably didn't have many to start with.

The scanner built into Overcharge's helmet crackled to life, picking up a transmission from a familiar voice. Commissioner Jaina Jasper, one of the few exceptions to Gotham's morality-bending hellscape. The woman had been one of Jason's few friends growing up, and when he returned from the dead, she was the first person he revealed himself to. She'd helped him a lot since then, getting his life back on track. Also with some side projects, like the police scanner he was listening to her on now. Threat level Green, huh? So Jasper was skeptical of the workers story too. Squatters tended to just move on if they were found, not fight back. He hoped the Meta had made it out, and that crews could find the other worker...

A sudden commotion from below sent Overcharge looking over the edge of the building, down into the alley. He saw a young girl tossing something behind a dumpster, (Smart move) and then heading towards the cops, hands raised... Turning herself in. Interesting tactic. Her next, echoed words sent Overcharge into action however, as well as cementing his opinion of her. She wanted someone to save the worker. She was one of the good guys. Taking a few steps back and getting a running start, Overcharge propelled himself into the air, twisting his body as he fell a dozen stories towards the ground. Instead of landing with a SPLAT as most terrans would, or with a three-point landing like most Heroes, Overcharge landed on his feet between the young Meta girl and the cops, with the unsettling appearance of a cat, unphased by a fall which should have killed it. Holding his gloved hands in the air to show the police he was unarmed, Overcharge nodded his red-masked head towards the group. "Morning officers! Take it easy on the kid here, we all know what those folks idea of 'gentle persuasion' is. Meanwhile, I'm gonna go rescue a public servant!"

Nodding and waving towards the Meta girl, Overcharge sprinted towards the building, leaping over police cordons and keying on his comms unit. "Hey hey Jasper, tell your goon squad to move back if you can, I'm going in for our missing worker. Your suspect turned herself in to your left, she let slip where to look. Seems like a good kid, afraid for her life, you know how it is." Skipping over the dusty rubble, Overcharge pulled his collapsible staff out of his pocket and extended it, using the sturdy pole to vault and leap towards the southeast corner. With his ability to efficiently use all of his energy, Overcharge hadn't even broken a sweat by the time he arrived at the area he'd need to search. He'd have to move quickly before more first responders got here. He knew from experience they tended to not leave till the job was done, and Overcharge was going to make a pretty dangerous mess of things here before they got better. After spending a few moments clearing aside some smaller bits of rubble, Overcharge found his target. A huge slab of concrete, covering a large portion of this section. There was likely space underneath it, and hopefully the construction worker was in there. Trapped, if any gods were paying attention, and not crushed.

Jamming his staff into a crevice and wedging it under the slab, Overcharge channeled his powers and imbued the tool with all the kinetic energy he had absorbed from his fall. A human body could generate a surprising amount of force with an impact like that, and with any luck it would be enough to shift the slab. He paused for just a second before moving forward, considering the ramifications of what he was about to do. At worst, moving this slab would actually kill the worker trapped under the building. At best, he would be freed and unharmed. Either way, certain publications and journalists in the city were going to blast Overcharge for being a 'Reckless Vigilante, Obsessed with Fame Over Justice, Obstructing the Good Officers of Gotham City PD'. He could live with it. Slamming down on the staff, every bit of energy discharged at once, the slab flipping upwards and toppling over the other direction, towards the blocked-off street. There was still a lot of rubble to dig through, but if the worker was down there he now had a shot at surviving...
@Blazion Go ahead and post! Kraken is just watching what's going on, ready to grab a space suit.
Jessie/Lightning Bug
Wonderland Bar, Bywater

What time was it? The sun was no help, the blackout curtains were closed and nothing was peeking through. The room was dark, aside from the LED paneling on the wall she had left on. Stabby was (Check the corners, make sure he's not hiding)... Not in the room, so it was after 2ish then. Amy was in her charging dock, but with the indicator LEDs taped over because seriously that is an annoying shade of blue, she couldn't tell where in her charging cycle the drone was. Where was...? Oh. Leigh and the boys were gone, must be on a delivery. After sundown then, and if Amy was still charging, it must be... 7ish?

"I need to fix my sleep schedule." Jessie muttered to herself, with absolutely no plan to fix it anytime soon. Caffeine and spite would keep her going until it didn't, then she'd sleep for 16 hours and start the cycle again. That was the way of the mad genius. Though, she had only passed out ten hours ago, why was she awake now...?

The second fire truck blaring its siren as it passed answered her question. Cursing the cities efficient public response system, Jessie rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and sent a mental command to her Matrix (Her proud pet name for her custom computer, built from the ground up to be perfectly compatible with her brain in every way.) to wake up and check for client emails, drone updates, and breaking news. Only a moment went by as Jessie dug through her minifridge looking for leftover takeout before a story from the latter popped up on her homepage.

"A fire? I don't care about... Of course it's Variants. Damn Underground. Amy, remind me to blacklist the Underground after I finish their current orders!" Jessie snapped to the still sleeping pink drone. "But what do those jerks want out of this lab so badly they're willing to give us an even worse name to the media...?" She wondered out loud, sinking into her plush computer chair.

Lightning Bug didn't need to wonder about things like that for long. Within a few minutes, she had opened up the public Nexus page for the lab, scouring its information like a sponge. One would be shocked at how much information secretive organizations would just leave in the open this way. Looked like whoever was in charge of monitoring the Nexus page was smarter than that though. Only some vague references to genetic testing. Maybe they were one of the labs NOVA used to test for Variant genes? Why would the Underground hit them though? It's not like NOVA doesn't keep a record of all that stuff, and use multiple labs regardless. There was more hiding here.

Fingers flashing across they keyboard, her mind beginning to run more on instinct than logical thought, Jessie reached out into the deeper pathways of the site. Login portals, that would be her way in. Brute-forcing a username and password would be nearly impossible, even for her, but there were other ways. She could, for instance, tell the security server that she had already given her credentials, but the password was wrong and she needed it reset. Using her technopathic powers to intercept the security email, Jessie copied the credentials into the portal, and was in. A slow eyebrow raised as Jessie began to scroll through the new information, looking for anything that would interest the pseudo-terrorists.

M.A.D. Jessie's eyes widened As she suddenly realized that this wasn't even close to the last layer of security. This was like... The fake permissions they would give to interns for data entry. There was so much more here to find, so much more to uncover, but all of it was buried under layers of advanced governmental security, state of the art stuff. Not that Jessie wouldn't be able to get through it, but what the hell was this lab doing with this type of security. They had to be associated with M.A.D. They were doing something crazy in there. Something they didn't want anyone to know about.

"Miss Jessie!"

"Jesus!" Jessie cried, nearly jumping out of her chair. Turning to see who was talking to her, she noticed the now-empty docking station for Amy, her personal drone assistant. She must have come out of her charge cycle at some point and Jessie hadn't noticed. "Right, sorry Amy. What is it? I'm kind of in the middle of something."

"Miss Alice is knocking! She is asking if you know what is going on? I presume she is talking about the fire trucks that have been passing by."

Jessie rubbed her eyes and nodded, pushing back from her desk and standing up. "That sounds about right... Thanks Amy. Try and get in touch with Leigh, make sure they're on their way back. I'll talk to Alice." Stepping through her messy kitchen, Jessie approached and unbolted her door, keying in the code to turn off her security system before she opened it up to see Alice, looking concerned.

"Hey Alice. We're all fine here, everything's good. Looks like there's a lab some Variants set fire to in Mid, I'm looking into it now. Reports said a couple of them were headed in roughly this direction, so... Maybe not a bad idea to open later tonight?"

Nik/Overcharge
Partially-renovated cafe, Bywater

Whistling a few notes to herself, Monika Graves began packing up her tools for the night. The nice thing about being an independent contractor was that she could make her own hours, so long as the job came in under budget and on time. Both things that this job had going for them so far. A few peaceful nights had been all Nik had needed to get ahead of schedule, and it really helped being an electrician who couldn't physically get electrocuted. So, when the news had broken over her radio, interrupting the custom playlist of niche metal that she had been listening to, and informed her of Variant activity heading towards her in Bywater, Nik had decided to call it a night an dhead out to her 'other' job.

Kicking her toolbox and radio behind some loose paneling, Nik zipped up her hoodie and tied her signature bandanna around her face. A quick check of her pockets revealed her stock of rubber bands to be full, and she slipped out the front facade of the currently-gutted cafe, locking the door quickly behind her before dashing off into the darkness. Absorbing every bit of wasted energy as her feet hit the pavement, Overcharge sprinted down the streets, following parallel to he sounds of sirens and trying to figure out where the thief would be heading. Ducking through alleys and jumping fences, Overcharge felt that she was getting close. She could see the flashing lights in the distance and head the distorted voices of officers through their loudspeakers and radios nearby. She'd have to stay out of sight if she wanted any action, Overcharge was still a vigilante at large after all. Ducking down another alley, she froze solid as she saw in front of her a woman covered in green scales. Obviously a Variant, and obviously trying to lose the cops. This was her. Silently wishing she had stocked up on some energy before diving headfirst into this situation, Overcharge grasped the small cylinder of her collapsed cane and stepped forward.

"Tonight hasn't gone great for you, has it?" Overcharge asked sarcastically, keeping some distance between her and the reptilian girl. "Set fire to a lab, I assume you got separated from your partners, looks like you don't have anything to show for it, the cops are still on you, and now... You have to deal with me. Of course, it could be much more simple than that. You walk out there, hands up, and everyone walks away from tonight with their faces intact. Otherwise, we start dancing here and now." She said, a gleam in her eye. With a flick of her wrist, the cane unfolded, clicking into place as Overcharge prepared for a fight.

Height: 4'2" (On all fours)
Weight: 180
Age: 25
Birth Date: 1996
--------
Costumed Appearance: Mako appears to be some kind of mix between a shark and a large dog. He has sandpaper-like blue skin, rows of sharp teeth, a menacing dorsal fin, and a long, snapping tail. He also has white, furry legs, intelligent green eyes, and a panting tongue too big for his mouth. He wears a bright blue 'collar', the charm of which is his Blue Lantern ring.

Civilian Appearance: Same as his costumed appearance.

Icon:

Costumed Personality: Mako is bright and cheerful, he strives to see the best in everyone he encounters. This courtesy extends even to his foes, and he often tries to find peaceful solutions to conflicts. However, if he is convinced there is no recourse but violence, he is a fierce fighter, his main goal being to eliminate the threat while containing any other casualties.

Civilian Personality: Saraka is extremely empathic, always listening to the stories of others. He tries very hard to connect with other people, even when his own experiences differ so drastically from them that one would think there could be no common ground. Saraka is determined to find the spark of goodness in every living being, and does not believe that any creature is too far gone for redemption.

Super abilities:
-Skills:

--Saraka was originally trained as a solder, and eventually a general. He is skilled in several martial arts of his home planet, as well as having understanding of many different battle tactics.
--Saraka received training as a diplomat in addition to being a solder. He understands how to speak with people to set them at ease in most cases.

-Powers:

--Ring Enhancement: The primary function of any Blue Lantern Ring is the capacity to re-energize and supercharge the powers of a Green Lantern ring, for just as a green ring enables a blue ring to use its fullest functions a blue ring can augment the powers of a green one. Prolonged charging of which has the dangerous effect of overloading said ring however, causing it to implode taking off the lightwielder's hand in the process. A well kept secret among the Blue Lantern Corps is that the light of hope can empower the rings/energies of another emotional spectrum besides will, the wielder of a blue ring must willingly enable this capacity first.

--Blue Energy Conduit: The rings use Blue energy, supplied by a Power Battery, which in most cases takes the form of blue light. The Blue energy of hope is an infallible connection to the universe. Hope is the most powerful of lights, and thus the universe speaks through it. A Blue Power ring's possibly one of the most powerful weapons in the known universe: it has the ability to affect and use fundamental forces of the known universe, including electromagnetic energies such as gravity, radiation, heat, light, and powerful blasts of concussive force. The ring can also create fields of force formed from an unknown energy that was bound by the users' will. The limitations of such use are the skill, knowledge and imagination of the user.

--Blue Energy Blasts: The ring can be used to fire blasts of blue energy or create weapons such as projectiles of them. The ring can project beams of force powered by the will of the user. The weapons power is more an indication of the hope of the user.

--Force-Field Generation: The ring can create various force fields of various sizes and shapes to protect the wearer and others around the user. With the cosmic scope of a Blue Lantern's abilities, it is only natural that the power ring is designed for operation in space. The ring creates a force-field around the wearer, protecting the user from the hazards of the void including filtration of stellar radiation and microscopic particulate matter which would ordinarily be fatal should the space debris strike the ring wielder at high speeds. An atmosphere appropriate to the ring wielder's biology is created inside the force-field, body temperature is maintained and waste products are removed. Gravitational stresses which could cause injury are stabilized for the ring wielder. This is one of only two abilities a Blue Power Ring has access to when away from an active Green Lantern.

--Energy Constructs: The ring can form constructs of blue energy. Unlike a Green Lantern Power Ring, The primary function of the Blue Power Ring will manifest its constructs in response to the targets specific psychosis. In this way, the ring can remove the corruptive influence of the red flame of rage by infusing hope. Otherwise the ring is a weapon capable of transforming the wearer's thoughts into physical constructs through the wearer's mastery of hope. A Blue Lantern can create any particular items or construct that they can imagine as long as they have the mastery of hope necessary to conjure it into existence. The constructs are made out of blue energy, which is a tangible form of pure hope, and they exist only as long as a Blue Lantern is fueling it with their mastery of hope. Items created by the rings are not indestructible and are only as powerful as the inspired hope of the Blue Lantern creating them.

--Phasing: The Power Ring allows the wearer to pass through certain solid objects, such as walls. Which objects that are not penetrable are not known, but it may depend upon the strength of the wearer's hope and the density of the object's molecular structure. It has also been cited that the wielder could pass through the fourth dimensional gap or dissemble their own molecular structure.

--Environmental Playback: Upon request, the power ring can recreate a holographic environment based on data in its memory banks. The ring wielder can observe events in a ghostlike state, but the ring wielder cannot alter the outcome of the playback. All objects in the playback will appear in the full spectrum of colors, regardless of the wielder's level of expertise creating simulacrums. The power ring will automatically end the playback if outside interference warrants the ring wielder's undivided attention.

--Energy Twin: The power ring allows the wearer to create an "energy twin" of his/her/itself that can travel at far greater speeds than that of the ring wielder's physical form. While the energy twin is active the ring wielder remains motionless, his/her/its life force is needed to guide the energy twin. The energy twin can not alter its surroundings, and may only be perceived by the Guardians or another ring wielder as a blue, ghostlike image. Any knowledge gained by the energy twin is transferred back to the ring wielder's physical form upon recontact with the body. The Guardians frequently used energy twins as a means of contacting a Lantern. As a rule, a ring wielder can not create actual, independent duplicates of him/her/itself, as the power ring cannot create life.

--Energy Absorption: The ring can absorb and store most other energies. Doing so does NOT replenish the normal store of energy the ring has. A ring that needs recharging but contained a store of electricity could only discharge that electricity, for example.
Hope Empowerment: the Blue Lantern ring is unique in that its base of power, Hope, can be manipulated by the ring user. Being in direct range of the emotional aura of a blue lantern allows them to charge an outer power reserve, by the sheer hope of the lantern its power will remain constant. The empowerment extends to even the stellar reactions of stars, allowing one to reverse the age of a dying star to that of a relatively new born star. Solely empowered by the hope of the population that relied on it, in turn empowering the Blue Lantern who then collects and uses it for the purpose of transformation.

--Flight: By the manipulation of anti-gravitons and directed molecular movement, the ring allows the user to fly at incredible speeds. In atmosphere, a Blue Lantern has been known to fly as fast as Mach 10 in atmosphere by creating an aerodynamic envelope around his body. Towing others, usually within a bubble, his speed is limited to the twice the speed of sound or 1440 mph. In space, Blue Lantern's speed can be significantly greater and has been known to approach 80% of lightspeed in normal space. Flight is possible at velocities exceeding light speed. In atmospheres, air friction is not a hindrance, since heat is either absorbed or reflected by the ring's field. This is one of only two abilities a Blue Power Ring has access to when away from an active Green Lantern.

--Wormholes & Spacial Warps: The power ring grants its wearer access to wormholes in space, enabling the ring wielder to rapidly cut time and distance needed for transport. Black holes can be navigated by experienced ring wielders.

--Healing: The rings show a considerable ability to heal the injuries of others, more so than any other power-ring has demonstrated. Saint Walker was able to regenerate Ganthet's hand in its entirety. Also, in another instance, Saint Walker's ring healed Arkillo's entire tongue, long after it had been ripped out.

--Electromagnetic Scanning: The ring has a wide range of detection abilities based on the imagination of the user. If one can conceive of it, he can probably detect it. Magical effects like clairvoyance, seem to be beyond the scope of the ring. Most normal electromagnetic phenomena are within the range of the ring, including radio, television, infrared, ultraviolet, and high frequency band communications.
Search Probes: A user was capable of sending probes through their Power Ring that were tasked with locating specific targets or individuals.

--Galactic Encyclopedia: The earlier rings worn by the Corps functioned as references for their users. Having the vast knowledge of the to draw upon, each ring functioned as a ready reference on most peoples, stellar events and conditions that may have been seen by other rings or other Blue Lanterns. The rings also served as a repository of adventures had by the Blue Lantern and these mission reports were stored in the Prime Battery for review and training.

--Universal Translator: The power ring acts a universal translator.

--Material Alteration: The Blue Lantern's uniform is not made out of fabric. It is created by the Power Ring whenever the wearer wills to wear it. It automatically appears over the wearer's normal clothing, and vanishes when the wearer wills to return to their civilian attire. Most Blue Lantern wear similar uniforms that are programmed into the ring by default. However, each Blue Lantern is able to adjust their uniform to fit their own needs, personalities and whims.

--Ring Duplication: Most Power Rings are capable of automatically duplicating themselves. Each duplicate typically shares the qualities and capabilities of the original ring. Each duplicate still requires to be recharged by a personal power battery. Some "temporary" rings can also be made, as well as rings with severe limitations and pre-programmed commands. All power rings, as being based upon the blue ring templates created by the Guardians of the Universe, are all programmed to be able to duplicate themselves on a specialised command known apparently only by the Guardians.

--Emergency Beacon: A Blue Lantern in distress can use his/her/its power ring as an emergency beacon. The alert can be directed to a Blue Lantern's neighboring sector, or it can be a Corps-wide alert.

--Homing Beacon: A homing beacon in the power ring can lead one Blue Lantern to another. The power ring can be ordered to disguise itself to elude power ring wielding trackers. Most often ring wielders will allow the beacon to signal their location to others.

--Mind Alteration: Though the ethics of mind tampering may be debatable, sometimes it is necessary. As the power ring relies on thought and hope to operate, mind tampering is not impossible. The difficulty lies in properly applying the power. There lies a risk of catastrophic damage to the mind should mistakes be made. A ring wielder can use the power ring to erase portions of an individual's memories. Blue Lanterns have used mind techniques as part of training. New recruits may be subjected to mind scans by other Lanterns or the Guardians of the Universe. They are taught to build mental defenses to protect themselves from psionic attack. The power ring can also be used to beam information from the ring wielder to another being.

--Invisibility & Light Refraction: A ring wielder can render him/her/itself invisible by willing the ring to bend light waves around his/her/its form, as well as that of the power ring. Presumably, a similar action allows an experienced ring wielder to create objects of colors other than blue.

--Preset Conditions: Commands can be stored in the ring to be executed at a later date, even if the bearer is not wearing the ring.

--Thought Relay: Otherwise known as a telepathic link.

--Levitation

--Security Protocol: The rings can be programmed. They are coded to the wearer to make them unusable if stolen.

--Avarice Immunity: The blue power of Hope cannot be affected by greed, so Orange Light constructs can't absorb it. The ring itself would not allow itself to be claimed by Larfleeze, stating "True Hope is selfless."

--Rage Immunity: True Hope cannot be affected by rage, and so the Blue power of Hope can extinguish the red flame of Rage. In fact, it can save a Red Lantern from their ring without killing them, so long as the Red Lantern is wearing a different power ring. This is done by calming the Red Lantern with an image of Hope (in the case of John Stewart, an image of him reunited with his wife), the Blue energy then acts as an antivenom, flushing out the tainted red plasma. After this is done, the former Red Lantern's heart can beat normally and blood regeneration can start.

-Vulnerabilities:

--Emotional Requirement: Unlike the "neutral" Green Lantern Power Rings, a Blue Lantern Power Ring demands that the wielder keep hope alive in their heart constantly. Hal Jordan's ring left him when Jordan could not hope beyond a trivial desire, and Barry Allen noted to Saint Walker that his ring was "struggling" with him. Saint Walker replied saying it was Barry struggling by not giving in fully to the ring. When a new Member of the Blue Lantern Corps experienced hopelessness, his Blue Lantern Power Ring left him and returned to the Blue Lantern Central Power Battery.

--Interference: as the continuing power of the rings connection of "universal hope", it has a tendency to cause a form of interference to Green Lantern Power Rings' long-range communication.

--Willpower Dependence: the Blue Lantern Power Rings can only function at their full potential in the presence of an active Green Lantern Power Ring. If another Green Lantern Power Ring is not in close proximity to the Blue Lantern, he or she is limited to only flight, a protective aura, and minimal strength enhancement. The Blue Lantern can still effect another with hope, but at greatly reduced energy.

--Recharge Protocol: Formerly, the rings needed to be charged after a period of 24 hours, regardless of how often it was used.

Biography---------

Character History/Origin: Saraka Kute was born into a warrior-caste on his home planet. Constantly embroiled in war, the amphibious solder was raised to know nothing but hatred for the enemy. Duiring his formative years he was fed propaganda and brainwashing messages to instill mistrust and a desire for vengeance against them. As soon as he was strong enough to wield weapons, he was sent to the front lines, his superiors impressed by the devotion and ferociousness they saw in him. However, even the best propaganda can only prepare a young solder for so much.

During his time on the front lines, Saraka witnessed atrocities. Not just from the side of the enemy, but from his own people as well. He was present for several historic truces, and was even responsible for initiating one himself. They never lasted long, and one side would inevitably annihilate the other, but it began to give Saraka an idea that the people he was fighting were not monsters. They were just on the other side of an imagined line.

Eventually, having proved his worth in the field, Saraka was given a position as a general, commanding forces and meeting with important people in his government to discuss war efforts. By this time, he had developed a new appreciation for the solders, generals, civilians, and government on the other side of the line, and began to use his power and position to push for talks to be opened. It was slow going, controversial, and nearly ending with him being court-martialed several times, but Saraka would not give up. Eventually he hatched a plan. A small task force, led by himself, infiltrating enemy lines with no permission from his own government. They would parlay with the enemy line commander, and find out exactly what it would take to end this war. This breach of military hierarchy and breakdown in communication ended up being the push both sides needed to sit down and talk for the first time in over half a century. Saraka Kute was hailed as a hero.

In the aftermath of the new peace talks, Saraka was visited by an alien figure, dressed all in blue. The strange, gaunt being introduced itself as Saint Walker, and said that because of the great Hope shown to end senseless bloodshed, Sarak was being chosen as the next Blue Lantern recruit. Whisked away to a strange new world, Saraka was inundated with a series of tests and question for three days. At the end of it, he was presented with a custom Blue Lantern Ring. His new job was to patrol the galaxy, looking for those in pain and need, and kindle hope within them. Now, as his first real mission, he is being sent to Earth, to defend a newly minted Green Lantern from a strange, unknown threat...

[N.O.V.A. Profile]

Name |Jessica Beadle
Alias | Lightning Bug
Age |22
Gender |Female
Appearance |Jessica Beadle appears to be a nondescript, brown haired young woman at first glance. Sh has a round face with some freckles, brown eyes, and a wide smile. Standing at 5'6", she has an athletic build and is most often seen wearing graphic tee-shirts and brown cargo pants.

In her Lightning Bug persona, she has put together a coherent costume, which many vigilantes have been unable to do. She wears an orange hood with a vertical black stripe down the center, a long brown coat, a black shirt, and neon green cargo pants. She is commonly seen wearing a set of homemade goggles, as well as heavy combat boots.

Notoriety |Wanted.

Variant Type/Danger Level | Jessica Beadle is a difficult Variant to classify, as her abilities have manifested in several different ways. She crosses lines between Volatile/Mentalist/Agile, as well as fitting into Classes 1/3/4. For this reason, and her highly unpredictable nature, Jessica Beadle has been classified as a Red level threat.

Abilities |

--Electrokinesis: Lightning Bug's body constantly creates a high-powered static field. She is able to manipulate this power to manifest purple bolts of electrical energy from her hands, firing them at a range of about 15 feet or using them up close and personal. She is able to control the level of shock, from as small enough to simply charge a device such as an iPod up to being able to short out someone's heart. She is also able to manipulate electricity in the environment around her, though to a lesser degree of control.

--Short Range Teleportation: Lightning Bug has manifested an ability to instantly transport herself and any inanimate object she can hold to any spot within her line of sight. She disappears in a bright spark of purple energy and reappears in a similar manner at her chosen destination. Currently she is able to teleport about a dozen times before needing to pause and rest for a few hours.

--Technopathy: Lightning Bug is able to project her will onto computer systems and technology, making it simple for her to access things she shouldn't or bypass security systems.

Attire |

--Telescopic Goggles: The green goggles Lightning Bug wears have a built in telescoping system, allowing for her to more clearly see distant points she might be able to teleport to. These further jumps wear her out more quickly, but have provided a way out of a few tight situations. These goggles also have built in night vision and infrared sights, as well as the ability to tag and track targets.

--Hoverboard: Utilizing proprietary technology, Jessie has built a working hoverboard that allows her to fly. It can carry her at upwards of 100 mph on the ground, with the upper limits of free-air flight as yet untested. The hoverboard contains a series of electromagnets that are tied to her boots, allowing for her to lock herself into place, as well as an emergency freefall failsafe, allowing the board to carry her safely to the ground in vase of dire emergencies.

Armament/Equipment |

--Drones: Jessie has created a small army of drones and robots, each programmed with a rudimentary AI and its own personality. They are detailed below.

-Leigh: A medium-sized purple drone with a single large eye-like sensor. She heads the delivery system for Jessie, and is responsible for mapping and leading the heavy labor drones. She is very businesslike and often has to reign in Phil and Rodriguez.
-Phil: A large red and orange drone with various grabbing attachments. Phil is responsible for the heavy lifting of delivery along with Rodriguez, and the two are often found bickering. Phil is certainly the 'dumbest' of the AIs, being the first programmed and put to use.
-Rodriguez: A large silver drone with various grabbing attachments. Rodriguez is responsible for the heavy lifting of delivery along with Phil, and the two are often found bickering. Rodriguez seems to have inherited Jessie's "I'm the most important" attitude, and believes himself to be her greatest invention.
-Farnsworth: A custom-built robot with thick telescopic lenses, Farnsworth is Jessie's mechanic, taking care of general maintenance and lab work. Farnsworth is often exasperated with the antics of the delivery team, but has an unbridled optimism which he exuberantly displays at any given chance.
-Hermes: Hermes is only tangentially related to the rest of the AIs, lacking a physical body himself. He runs the 'accouonting' side of Jessie's various businesses, cooking her books and coordinating money laundering and other schemes. Hermes is a no-nonsense type, a bureaucrat through and through.
-John: A multi-armed medical drone, John is responsible for all medical care and treatment in Jessie's line of work. He had very little in the way of bedside manner, and is often quite awkward.
-Amy: A modular drone with a flexible AI, Amy is responsible for any overflow work from any other drones. She is excitable and exuberant, especially when she is given a new task to perform.
-Stabby: An old Roomba with a simple AI, Stabby is the janitor. He deals with the plumbing and heating units mainly, and Jessie has taped a butterknife to him.

[Temperament & Lifestyle]
Affiliation | Wonderland Bar
Alignment |Narcissist
Personality/Habits |Lightning Bug delights in causing chaos. While she rarely wants to see any of her potential victims get hurt, she finds that causing panic and confusion is a fantastic tool to help her reach her goals. Lightning Bug is quick and efficient in her schemes, and attempts to plan ahead, often laying the groundwork for a job weeks in advance. In the moment however, she allows herself to cut loose, improving speeches, one-liners, displays of power, and the like; so long as it doesn't interfere with her plans as a whole. She has been called deranged due to the fact that she wears a big smirk during all of her jobs, but truth be told it's simply because that is when she feels in her element, and most like herself.

As Jessica Beadle, she is comfortable with her place in the world. She often spends every free moment in her workshop or computer lab, building and designing new technology. Whenever she unveils something new, or makes a big breakthough is when she is at her happiest.

Jessie also spends a lot of time and money on the Variant rights causes, campaigning to block registration acts and providing aid to needy Variants. Though this appears altruistic on the surface, the truth is that Jessie is simply trying to create a world in which she will not be persecuted, and this seems to be the easiest way.

Occupation/Trade |Black Market tech dealer, thief.
Skills/Talents |

--Jessie is a master at computer technology, both hardware and software.

--Jessie is a master inventor, able to create nearly anything technological given enough time and resources.

--Jessie has built failsafes and blind spots into every piece of commissioned technology she has created, a series of countermeasure and failsafes designed to protect her in case those pieces were ever turned against them

Family |Girard Beadle (Alive), Lilly Beadle (Alive).
Background |Jessica Beadle was born to a family of old money living in the Vines. Her father had inherited his wealth from the family, and was determined to make even more money off of it. However, one bad investment after another sent the family into a spiral of throwing good money after bad, and by the time Jessie was 12 years old, the family was forced to sell their large house and many of their family heirlooms and move into a small neighborhood in Brigitte. Jessie never forgot living in the mansion she grew up in, the lavish parties her parents would throw, and the expensive lifestyle they once lived. Though even after the move she had a much better life than many other New Haven residents, Jessie quickly developed an attitude towards her parents and her new neighbors, believing all of this new life to be beneath her, and thinking that she deserved better.

Her chance came soon after her 13th birthday. After a traumatic event involving a home invasion, Jessie began to manifest Variant abilities. As her abilities grew, her parents became concerned at the wide variety of powers she showed, and took her to get registered. It was here that the sheltered rich girl first became aware of the idea of Variants operating outside the law. Immediately she knew what her path in life was. Vigilantism held no charm for her, she was interested only in helping herself. Being a supervillian, on the other hand...

Over the next several years, Jessie used her natural intelligence and her enhanced technological abilities to create a network of underground contacts. She began building her drones and technology in secret, always convincing her parents that it was 'school projects'. Finally, shortly before she turned 18, she found her chance. A N.O.V.A agent looking to get out, she needed a team to help her. Jessie volunteered, coordinating the technical side of things and shutting down security for the escape. While other members of the team did their part, Jessie ingrained herself with the refugee, Alice. Convincing the Variant operative that she needed to escape too, Jessie found herself whisked away from her parents home, now finding refuge in an apartment above the Wonderland Bar. She has retrofitted the apartment to include her workshop and computer lab, and now spends much of her day selling technology on the black market, or stealing from ATMs and planning bank heists.

Justice Station, Earth Orbit

Custos floated slowly in his aquatic chamber aboard the Justice Station. It had taken a lot of convincing to get Grim to add the large, water-filled chamber to the station, but after the Atlantean Revolt, the former spy was happy to have somewhere to go. He could have found a place on the surface. Gotham, New York, Halifax. Even outside the shattered North America. There were countless coastal cities that could have used his help, and even scattered colonies of displaced Atlanteans who were still loyal to the missing king. But many of those places had heroes of their own, and none of them needed the skills of a displaced spy. He was lost, floating along in this strange new world like he was floating in the chamber which cradled him now.

A sudden, shrieking alarm sounded, bringing Custos back to the present and pulling him out of his melancholy. Rocketing towards the surface, he called the currents of the tank to bring him his mask, grateful that he was already in his suit. Fitting the tentacled mask to his face and breaking the surface of the tank, Kraken examined a nearby monitor. Nuclear threat, coming up through the atmosphere of the earth. Heading straight for the station. Unknown origin, the tracking systems of the Station were having trouble pinning it to any known launch site. It was coming in impossibly fast, Kraken braced himself for an impact...

Nothing. No explosion, no impact, no breach. Wasting no time, Kraken took off down a hallway, looking for a viewport to try and see the direction the threat had come from. Did it miss? Did the warhead fail? Or... Kraken came to a halt outside one of the interior airlocks, glimpsing a view of the outside. There was a man out there. Knocking on the airlock. Another alarm sounded, different this time. Proximity alert. Something else was coming in. A familiar flash of Emerald light, bringing a disbelieving laugh to Kraken's lips and a swell of joy to his heart. There was a Lantern out there! Quickly, Kraken keyed on his communicator, sending out a broadband message to all the League members.

"This is Kraken, calling in League support to the Station. We have a potential situation, some kind of Nuclear Man literally knocking at our door. And we have some other company as well. Green Lantern inbound, hopefully with some good news for us. Anyone who can get here, I recommend doing so."
