Standing at 6'2" and weighing 190 lbs. Ren is just slightly on the lankier side of things -enough to be noticed with some... intimate contact, but easy enough to gloss over from a distance and with enough clothing on. Aside from his most remarkable feature, Ren is otherwise incredibly average -the type of person it's more than easy enough to gloss over because there's not much to grab the attention. 
His most striking feature is subtle enough to not even be noticed without close scrutiny: his eyes have a habit of making people very uncomfortable because of something that people often can't figure out until it's pointed out to them. The irises are such a dark color that they are almost impossible to tell apart from the pupil, leaving an uncomfortably large dark void in the center of his eyes. The fact that he doesn't blink terribly often and has no problem maintaining eye contact only further emphasizes it. 

Ren is the kind of person that people would have trouble describing as unattractive. His features are sharp, his skin is smooth and clear, and he holds himself confidently. However, more often than not he has dark circles under his eyes from a lack of sleep, his hair ends up in a disheveled mess, and he allows his facial hair to grow out to that uncomfortable length where it can't exactly be called stubble, but isn't quite yet a real beard and mustache yet.
While attractive and uncomfortable are both fitting words to describe Ren based on his appearance, when considering his attitude and mannerisms, most will settle on 'intimidating' if asked to describe him in a word. He holds himself tall, and has a habit of keeping totally still unless actively doing something. He will stare without apology if he finds something interesting, and moves with refined purpose in everything. His mannerisms are that of stereotypical royalty than washed up ex-cop. When he speaks, it is always in a hushed, broken tone, as if he'd just returned from four hours of screaming at the sky, despite the fact that he's never seen raising his voice above his almost rhythmic whispers.

𝔅ackground

Ren's life was aggressively average growing up. A white, middle class family in Long Beach raised him as Reginald, simply because they liked the name. He took very little from his family life but a rosy outlook on the world, a curious nature, and a strong belief that there's no such thing as knowledge that's inaccessible. Very much into 'experimentation' in high school resulted in a few close brushes with some less-than legal areas of the internet, but always more of a flirting relationship that never got him into trouble. Then, it was time for Ren to get a university education. When he was a child and asked what he wanted to be when he grew up, he answered 'a powice officew'. So, he attended California State to study Criminal Justice, paying his way with scholarships and a loan from his parents.

The trend of an aggressively uninteresting life continued. He dated in college, messed around with drugs, and got a degree with average grades. Never anything that would make him stand out in a crowd of his peers. A year out of college hopping in between minimum wage jobs and rooming with a similarly uninteresting person, he finally got his 'dream opportunity' to join the LAPD. Five years of work with the police department saw him rising the ranks to become one of LA's most average and forgettable detectives. Ren was content to be in his mediocre position. He made enough money to get by, everyone would make small talk with him, and he didn't have to put in terribly much effort. There was no risk, and very little reward.

This all changed when Ren was partnered with one of his more ambitious fellow detectives on a case. The case looked like your average rape-and-murder that they'd dealt with a thousand times before. As they followed the trail of clues, thanks to some expert sleuthing from Ren's partner, they were lead to a very unusual suspect. Neither detective wanted to even entertain the idea that their own police commissioner was the culprit, but the evidence pointed to him, and him alone. At first Ren insisted that, for the sake of their careers, they drop the matter and call the case closed. His partner insisted they expose the 'ring of corruption' as he so liked to dramatize it, and eventually Ren caved. They took the evidence to higher ups to have the commissioner thrown behind bars. Both were promptly fired and put under heavy threat to never speak of the matter again. 

With the sudden upheaval of his financial security, Ren scrambled to find work so he could keep the lights on. Thanks to his very specific focus in school, he had very few options above minimum wage. He turned to private investigative work, but was simply unable to find the clientele needed to pay the bills. Until one day, at the end of his rope, a client came with a very odd request. The client did her best to remain anonymous (not the easiest thing to do when hiring a P.I.), but had plenty of money and was more than happy to pay up front for surveillance work on her ex-husband. The job was all very normal at first, documenting his movement, finding the people he was meeting with. Then Ren was asked by the client to kill the man. Obviously he protested at first, for the simple fact that murder was illegal. The tune of $35,000 solved that issue very quickly. 

Ren thought he'd never forget the feeling of killing a man, but he was desperate and needed the money. Once the deed was done and the body was in the harbor, Ren found himself not nearly as shaken up as he should've been. A week of tailing the guy had proven that he was a scummy person. The kind of person that the law should've caught, but never did because he threw enough money the right way. It's amazing what murder will do to the human mind -for Ren, it brought sudden clarity. Money really was all that anyone in the world cared about -he himself proved it by killing a man. Rather than stick to the rules that he used to enforce with the LAPD, Ren decided to embrace just how meaningless they all were.

$35,000 to move from Long Beach to LA, buy a new office and put his name out there as a P.I. That brought in business. Enough business so that people didn't question exactly how Ren was financing his endeavors and expensive taste. And true, much of the money came from his day job as a P.I., just not nearly as much money as his night job brought him. With the proper connections, and looking in the right places on the internet, Ren quickly found that there was no shortage of people in the world who wanted someone dead, and had the money to back it up. Almost two contracts a month for four years racked up quite a body-count, and racked up even more of a bank account. 

The bodies piled up and blurred together for Ren. He was by no means a sociopath, he felt and cared as much as anyone else might. He just didn't care about the lives of these John and Jane Does nearly as much as he cared about his own money and notoriety. He could recall vague details from most of his kills, but overall never found any interesting enough to recall in detail -any, save for one. It started as every contract did. A few messages exchanged across the internet, a negotiation of price, all the relevant information. In the dead of night, he made his way into his victims house, and made himself comfortable out of sight. When the man was assured to be asleep, a strip of oral film dosed with a generous application of abrin was inserted into his mouth. Ren then made a cup of coffee, and watched the poison take effect. That was when things took a turn for the...weird.
As the routine always went, the victim spent a good few minutes vomiting up blood, and generally struggling against the restraints he put them in for safety. When the man finally choked to death on his own blood, Ren went to start cleaning up, but was interrupted when a very thick cloud of smoke erupted from the dead man's chest. Where the man was once lying limp in a pool of crimson, he now stood totally pristine, and very angry looking. Ren found himself, in that moment, very glad for the Beretta 92 he had taken to carrying around with him. A few very sloppy silenced shots put his target down again, hopefully for good this time. Allowing his curiosity to get the best of him, he searched the corpse to see if there was any clue as to what the hell happened. Nothing unusual, save for a necklace of hemp cord around the man's neck. Attached to the cord by some very rusty iron fixings was what appeared to be a very rough bone carving, with a symbol that Ren didn't recognize. On a whim, he took the charm and kept it for himself, replacing it with the calling card he left on all of his kills. 

Three years into his career as a Private Eye, Ren was contacted again by the LAPD who had fired him so long ago. The police commissioner had been found dead balls deep among a pile of tirty money, heroin, and whores. Evidence all around vindicated both Ren and his ex-partner. He was invited back to help work on a case that was baffling the department -the newspapers dubbed him "𝔗𝔥𝔢 ℭ𝔯𝔬𝔴𝔫 𝔎𝔦𝔩𝔩𝔢𝔯", a serial killer who's body count was in the dozens. Nothing linked the victims save for their dying by Abrin poisoning, and a calling card left behind featuring nothing but a golden crown and a dollar amount, anywhere from 30 to 100 thousand dollars. While Ren refused to officially rejoin the police force, he agreed to help along their investigation as a freelancer. Ren delighted in pursuing himself and leading the police on false leads for no more than a week before he was approached by Steve Foster's team.

𝔓ersonality

One of the most defining points of Ren's personality is that he is a pathological liar. Whether or not it came from the lies required to keep his cover as a hit man, or something else, lying comes second nature to him, sometimes without him even noticing until he says it. Admittedly he isn't the most convincing liar, he can still be very believable if he finds the proper motivation to really spin a tale. 

Ren never did bother with therapists and psychiatrists -a waste of good time and money, in his opinion. Some might call his constant mood swings an indicator that he should refer to a professional, but he insists that that's stupid. Generally Ren will waver between calm, low-profile and extremely nihilistic in attitude, and a second, more showy and dramatic attitude, far more positive and encouraging. 

While nihilism is an important facet of his personality, he is still driven by his morals as much as he is driven by a disregard for the rules of the world. Ren was always very discerning in his clientele -he refused to take a contract without first assuring himself that the victim was dirty in one way or another. Innocents were never to be harmed, and he kept his kills as humane as possible. Very little mess for loved ones to clean up, minimal pain on death, and respects paid to next of kin via a stack of bills from the contract money. There are some things that repulse him to even consider doing -while he understands that rules really are meaningless so long as you can avoid or deal with the consequences, he has too much respect for his fellow man to do anything truly horrible.

Insatiable curiosity is another important part of what makes Ren who he is. It comes with both his day and night jobs to snoop, and he carries that forward in his life. He enjoys to constantly be learning, and will often stop what he's doing to look something up on the internet if he finds it suitably interesting.

Along with lying and learning, Ren also makes a very frequent habit of flattery. It's very difficult to be in the same room as Ren without feeling your ego inflate. He's not much for tearing people down, and is very forward with pointing out things he likes. While he certainly uses this to his advantage at points, he hates the term 'manipulative', and really just does it because he enjoys it. If that helps him get what he wants along the way, who's complaining?

Ren fears many things. Ren is afraid of being caught by law enforcement and left to rot in a cell. Ren is afraid of being killed or tortured. Ren is afraid of Hell. In spite of these, and many other things, Ren still has put himself on a life path that is extremely likely to lead to all of these things. This is because of his true fear, the driving force in his life that scares him more than anything else. Ren is afraid he will be forgotten, and will do everything in his power to prevent that from happening.

𝔚eaknesses

While Ren is physically fit overall, and not weak by any stretch of the imagination, he has about as much stamina as a stick of gum. Sprinting short distances, moving objects, scaling walls all prove no problem for Ren, but are nigh-impossible as soon as the task is extended with no period for rest. 

Ren is also very much a slave to impulse. He is capable of planning, and adequately prepares for consequences should the situation be properly dire, but should he miscalculate risk or simply not see the big-picture possibilities, he has a habit of getting in over his head in a hell of a mess because he hasn't put in enough thought.

Ren's usual wardrobe consists of silky button-up shirts in dark reds, with almost identical black slacks and pinstripe black vest, with varying hues of stripes. Ren is almost never seen without a very well worn pair of work boots that might've once been black, but are caked and stained with so much mud and dirt now that it's difficult to tell. A simple black watch adorns his wrist, and around his neck a thin hemp cord can often be seen poking out from his collar. When working a day job, he will carry a small backpack with him, and wear a simple gray windbreaker.

As much as I like this character, there is one issue. The brush with the paranormal has to have been put on record, which is how Steve Foster gets to the people he recruits- the case/mission report gets filed, anomalous things are in record, gets flagged by DG. If no one knows that he is the Crown Killer and his brush with the paranormal happened while he was carrying out his actions under his other persona, then how does Steve Foster know that Reginald is a good candidate for recruitment? As far as anyone knows, even Steve Foster, Reginald is just another detective-turned-PI as he is now and hired guns are a dime a dozen in Steve Foster's world.

An idea would be to have the Commissioner's scandalous dealings be with a cult or connected to one. Once Reginald and his partner gets too close to the conspiracy and has enough evidence, he is blackmailed and thrown out of the PD. Fast-forward to his PI days and a man named Steve Foster is the only one who knows the truth and believes Reginald.

Just throwing that out there, but you can tailor it however you want.
