Here's the locations of the Goblins (it's in pink) the Dwarves previously drove out. I plan to have an Arc involving Goblins soon. Eric and I have been discussing ways we could incorporate them into the role-play. I already have a few ideas already.

Other than that, here's a brief description in the form of a dialogue from a dwarf

Name of nation: The Dwarven Kingdom of Dunfender

Characters

Name of leader: Rorik “Ironfoot” Jorikson

Brief introduction to leader: Rorik “Ironfoot” Jorikson is a hardy, stubborn, loud-mouthed, dwarf; he, like the kings before him, earned the right to be lead his people through his actions for the kingdom and his actions in battle. He is named Ironfoot because his foot is made of forged steel; he lost his leg during the final battle with the Goblin king at the siege of Fhorn’s keep 150 years ago after beheading the goblin king.

Name of other character: Dale “Hammerhand” Thrailson

Brief introduction to other character: Dale is a shrewd dwarf who’s currently in charge of the forge works, siege works, and engineer shop. He checks the quality of the designs and tests their durability and range of use. He was the son of Thrail, the previous forge master, who passed on his knowledge and entrusted Dale with his unfinished designs.

Name of other character: Bromik “Firebeard” Grumikson

Brief introduction to other character: Bromik is just as thick headed and stubborn as the king himself, he is the commander of every dwarven division within Dunfender. He is nicknamed Firebeard, because of the goblin magic that lit his beard on fire during the fight at Fhorn’s keep. His intimidating appearance during that time was seared into the mind of every dwarf that lived through that era of conflict.

Name of other character: Fenrir “Silvertongue” Halmdirson

Brief introduction to other character: Fenrir earned his nickname through his mastery of speech, he is currently the most successful merchant master in Dunfender and is also currently employed as the emissary to the king. His shrewd use of words and his ability to read a person and use different negotiation tactics has earned him that right. He isn’t always successful, there are just some people out there that are just as stubborn if not more stubborn than he – a dwarf.

Culture

Dwarven culture revolves around their craftsmanship so much so that they would make sure that their work would endure the test of time. They have festivals celebrating creation by carving ornate statues in honor of the Craftsman god.

Their society determines where a certain individual is on the social ladder by their skill in trade, craft, and strength that is either proven through how much they earn or how they do in combat.

The highest ranked dwarves in the social ladder get nicknames such as the king, Rorik “Ironfoot” Jorikson. Dwarves that have nicknames are important, legendary figures. They lead in certain categories of strength, craft, and skill.

In regards to female dwarves, they do, in fact, exist. They are very similar to the men of their race in both height and build, the only thing that sets them apart is the diminished beard (or lack there of) and their higher pitched voice.

Religion

They believe that they were born out of stone; they believe that one god designed their world to be like this and they know him to be a master craftsman. This god is named Fhorn.

They believe that Fhorn forged the world with earth, clay, metal, water, and stone and shaped it together using a mighty hammer known as Golgir and the Anvil known as Khuzdir and to bring this world to life he put his creation through the world flame known as Vyr. This creation would come to be known as Wyrden to the dwarves.

Attitude towards magic

They see it as another tool, they use it to complete certain crafts by enchanting different items with runes. It is a difficult process therefore only the masters of their craft may have these expensive items.

They do in fact dable in the arcane arts of magic, however this is very difficult due to the low affinity towards magic among Dwarves. They have thus resorted to using enchantments to bridge the gap between them and the rest of the world, although this may not be enough.

Dunfender is a region of forests, plains, and mountains. Dwarves found this location and fought for control of its rich resources against local goblins that made their homes in their mountain caves. It was only later discovered that these goblins weren’t acting as small individual tribes but a massive kingdom by their own right.

The throngs of goblins were pushed back by the Dwarves time and time again, but their numbers were endless, their realm impenetrable, and their king untouchable, it was impossible to dig out the goblins that have made their home on the mountain range known as “the Dragon’s Spine”. Then one King within their already entrenched kingdom changed how they fought, they dug into their tunnels and fought them from both outside and within; now the goblins fought a war on two fronts and it went on for three hundred years.

These three hundred years of war came to be known as the war of tunnels. It came to an end when Rorik son of Jorik killed the goblin king in the siege of Fhorn’s keep. The goblins were outmatched, out witted, and out maneuvered, the battle had lost them their king they were forced to retreat. The following days after the victory at Fhorn’s keep saw the clearing of all goblin camps and tunnels effectively pushing the goblins out of the dragon’s spine. The dwarves after this victory have prospered on and around the area of Dunfender.

Military

The Dwarven military heavily focuses on heavy infantry, mobile siege equipment, chariots, crossbowmen, axe throwers, chariots and goat/ram/boar riders. Elite dwarven units are called brassbeards due to the brass ranks they receive on their armor; they are drafted from the best of the best dwarven units and are tasked with protecting the king.

The dwarven armory is usually supplied with long pikes, poleaxes, polearms, war hammers, swords, axes, knives, daggers, shields of differing shapes and sizes, crossbows, bolts, throwing axes, plate armor, chainmail, gambisens, sabatons, boots, and winter clothes.

Their rations consist of dried or salted meats and fish, a canteen of water, bread, a wedge of cheese, and some vegetables.

Government

The dwarves of dunfender are reliant on a monarchial system.

Their monarch is selected by the council elders selected by the previous king or queen, the elders in turn choose the heir if there is no apparent successor or if the apparent successor is too young to rule. They choose among the swaths of dwarves and select only the dwarves of royal decent and/or have done more heroic deeds in the name of the realm itself. Dwarves of high standing are usually considered among their kin are usually considered as well.

Main sources of income: Mining, Trade, and Manafacturing

Current goal: Establish trade dominance and economic stability.

@Liotrent seeing as how Azurei is not typical of most fantasy elves, I see no reason to be overly stereotypical. I mean, someone’s Gotta buy their silver.

I like the idea of a sort of tense relationship though, like everything is good.....for now. Depending on how they treat each other, that might change. Kaija is a fickle beast. Heheh.

@Liotrent Then you'll get to know Ridahne very well then. I'm thinking people across the mountains contact her (or someone who then passes it on to her, whichever) via message hawk/pidgeon/raven? That way she knows when to go out there and how to prepare. As long as Dunfender is not strongly allied with Fellmore, perhaps they and Azurei could have a sort of working relationship. Either as actual allies or as neutral but mutually beneficial entities.

Actually, considering dwarves are typically the crafty type (I assume yours are, yes?) They might have a decent relationship considering Azurei is known for its silver, and maybe some semi-precious stone like carnelian, or coastal finds like abalone or mother of pearl.

If that's the case I have a feeling we'll get along nicely! The Dwarves are willing to craft and build anything of your liking as long as they are compensated well! Food supplies or other precious materials are all good points of trade.

In terms of our country's actual relationship, it depends on how you treat and interact with the merchants and how they broadcast their culture. My dwarves are obsessed with crafting, so much so that some of the things they make are so well decorated that you could swear it was catching light; it's also why their buildings last much longer because they are so well engineered.

In terms of Fantasy it's a stereotype that dwarves and elves don't get along, but again, different fantasy setting (Also the reason why I don't have dragon slayers - because they haven't actually encountered dragons yet).

Also like, Azurei needs some allies (or enemies bwahahaha.) anyone wanna collaborate?

Also geographically:

Azurei is a desert land, bordered by the sea on one side and mountains to the other. There is a wide pass where the mountains sort of “end”. It is rarely, if ever, guarded because it feeds right into the heart of the Dust Sea and unless you’re prepared and know what you’re doing, just waltzing in there is a bad idea. But if anyone wants to come visit, Ridahne is up for hire haha.

@Liotrent I was thinking something similar, that perhaps all dwarves were nomadic at some point in history and that these two tribes of dwarves split long ago for some reason. The Karaki dwarves used to be polytheistic. Maybe the Dunfender dwarves were always monotheistic, and that's what drove them apart all those long years ago?

The prophet Mhaza might have been influenced by the Dunfenders, copying but "refining" their faith.

If that's the case, do they share the same sort of saying "a dwarf is a dwarf" stance on things? Like do we hate each other or are we indifferent or are we somewhat on friendly terms? I'm asking cause for my dwarves they'd help a fellow dwarf no matter their decent.

@golem Would you like to do a sort of shared history thing where since we're both dwarves? It's kind of weird to say we just suddenly appeared on the scene.

The idea that I have in mind is that we were once one culture, because I can see at least in terms of religion that we are quite similar, perhaps we diverged and changed over thousands of years to become the dwarves we are now keeping some things the same but somewhat slightly different. If you want to go with that idea, I would like to discuss how it happened in more detail.

(I keep saying dwarves because I've read tolkiens work... Is it really pronounced dwarf?)
