A lone sniper on Mars has acquired a spacesuit and plasma rifle, and has been using the two to rob Martian cargo shipments on the planet's otherwise inhospitable surface. Because the badlands of Mars lack an atmosphere, the plasma bolts fired by the sniper are seemingly too fast and too damaging to track their whereabouts. Xaara, Jeremiah, and Eiko head to Mars catch him, by setting a trap with themselves as bait.

Poole, Gray, and Yeva head to Venus to buy some ginseng, and end up arriving at an annual rave held on the planet by a notorious drug manufacturer known as "Mister Beeftips". Seeking to cash in Beeftips' three million yen bounty, the trio disguise themselves to sneak in and crash the party.

Following the capture of a red felon that ended in a disastrous space battle, the Absolute Magnitude is being repaired at some Martian Mechanic. The crew splits up the money, with each person earning about ten grand. To reward themselves for the difficult apprehension, they decide to spend it all that day their different ways.

Hanging above the Absolute Magnitude's dinner table and gathering area, there is a primitive corkboard holding photographs of the crew. Each has survived the multiple fires, plasma blasts, and other attacks the ship has been through. It is a tradition no one knows who started, but nonetheless, the corkboard has always been as much a part of the ship as the rivets holding it together. By the sheer fact that their picture has not been thrown out, the crewmembers know they are alive, that they have a family, and that they have not been forgotten.

WIP. I still have to define the tech of the world and finish the character sheet and themes, but the final draft is done so start making some CS's for me to judge. This post will be a link to a discord in the future.

𝐀𝐁𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐓𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄

It is the year 2450. Following the melting of the polar ice caps in the late 21st century, humans turned to outer space travel, terraforming the other planets of the Solar System. In time, they developed thriving civilizations on these planets; first on Mars, then on Earth's moon, then on Venus. Politics, society, and economics changed with the times -- New generations grew up with no memories of the Earth, and religious, ethnic, and national groups gave way to planetary allegiances. As these new communities flourished, the economy boomed (similar to the economic productivity nations encountered after World War II). However, this also widened the disparity between the rich and poor, and interplanetary crime syndicates began to exert influence over the private citizens, planetary governments, and the Inter-Solar System Police (ISSP). In order to control the criminal activity, a "bounty-reward scheme" was introduced.

Our story follows the crew of the spaceship Absolute Magnitude. It is a partnership of bounty hunters who travel the Solar System trying to apprehend various criminals and lawbreakers, while earning cash through the occasional odd job and scattered petty crime. More specifically, our story is about the characters, their personal growth, and the history that is pieced together over time. Some "episodes" may be less heavy on this and feature spaceship chases, intense violence, and convoluted gun battles, while others will be snippets of flashbacks interspersed with the crew eating cheap sandwiches at a diner or other mundane, ordinary activities. This world is fairly similar to the real world, and will ostensibly aim to be just as balanced in its dark and light-hearted situations. Just with more jetpacks.

I'm not good at first sentences, but if you've come this far you're either interested in the tags or my sweet title font, which is something I guess I can work with. Anyway, this is the interest check for 𝐀𝐁𝐒𝐎𝐋𝐔𝐓𝐄 𝐌𝐀𝐆𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐄, an RP so great, the title can't be read on mobile. Primarily inspired by Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, and Ghost in the Shell, the basic headline for the plan is "Four Assholes in Spaceship Perform Criminal Odd Jobs, sometimes Contemplating Own Existence".

This is still a WIP and I have more important things to do than add more fluff to the Interest Check, though these bullet points should do an alright job explaining things. If you're interested or have any questions, let me know!

It is the year 2525. Following the melting of the polar ice caps in the late 21st century, humanity has inhabited four of the solar system's eight planets, with several generations already having lived and died away from Earth. There is no overarching form of government except for the ISR (Interplanetary Security & Regulations), who now act as a sort of politically neutral highway patrol for space travel. At their inception, they were an extension of the Japanese government's space program and exclusively transported native Japanese immigrants to the neighboring alien colonies, which is how Japan and its culture have become relatively dominant in the stars.

The story will center around 3-4 characters who are all various kinds of outlaws, wildly different from one another while also sharing some heavy themes; Attachments to the past, Metaphysical purposelessness, and Contemporary loneliness. It sounds far more confusing than it is because this is just the Interest Check, though I assure you that some explanation will be given in the OOC for these themes. I'd like to include them primarily to enrich the story, and also to scare away the folk who stopped reading after "Metaphysical".

As mentioned, I'm planning for this story to use an episodic nature, probably by using titled hiders to divide different narratives. The reason for this is that I believe boredom/writer's block, shitty forced plot-progression posts, and player dropout, will be less of an issue if we regularly jump from writing one "episode" to another with no need for a clear timeline if the characters always end up approximately how they started. Though I understand this constraint keeps us from building a long narrative, I think that the "point" of having a lot of mini-stories is to flesh out characters moreso than a linear story.
Right on! Potentially halfway already.
