The fifth ninja war

Satoi glanced at his surroundings. Small, quiet, and out of the way. Which was ideal, considering what he'd just done. Satoi shrugged and began looking towards the road. He was supposed to meet up with an ally around here somewhere. A drop of water fell from the sky and landed onto Satoi's nose, bringing with it the fresh smell of rain. Satoi looked up and watched as the sky get grayer and raindrops began dripping from the clouds. He frowned at the rain; he'd have to find some shelter before it started coming down for real. But where was his ally?

As he lowered his eyes from the stormy sky, he spotted a familiar black shape in the air. He squinted into the distance and could just make out the dim shining of metal claws. The signal, and as luck would have it, his quarry was walking right towards him. Satoi could just alert her to his presence, but it was probably better to be safe. Satoi looked at the area Izumi was walking towards. She was getting close to a forest that sat next to the dirt road. Satoi shrugged and ran forward, disappearing into the brush.

There were 2 reasons for his sudden detour. The first was expedience; going in a straight line was faster than going around. The second was to find possible sources of shelter. The rain was only getting heavier and they had things to talk about. He found such a place, a small alcove made by a mess of trees and bushes which kept out the water adequately enough. He spread his camoflage blanket on the top for added waterproofing. He wanted to gather some dry sticks but he could do that later.

With a temporary spot established, Satoi whistled a complex series of bird sounds. A simple code, a signal that would alert Izumi to Satoi's presence. With that done, Satoi patiently sat down in the nest.

Derrick

Name: Derrick Greenguard
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Personality: The best statement to describe Derrick would probably be "lacking in direction". Derrick tends to be rather quiet and likes to think for himself rather than talk to others, although he's not exactly antisocial. He's more of a follower than a leader and is decisively indecisive when not with others. He likes to be left alone more often than not, although he wouldn't deny companionship.
Appearance: Short brown hair, dull brown eyes and square features.

Favoured weapon: Spears/polearms
Notable skills: Moderately skilled with spears and pole weapons. Good strength and stamina. Bad at panicking and is fairly observant. Good at defending. Does his job till it's finished.
Notable weaknesses: A bit too careful sometimes, doesn't often take initiative. Not good attacking targets outside his range. Fairly inexperienced.
Background: Derrick comes from a rural background of hard farming and was a rather unimaginative child, dreaming of a peaceful adulthood of having a farm of his own and providing for his family. But of course, to own property, you needed money. Derrick and a few of his friends hit upon the idea of taking down local pests together before handing them in for bounties. Derrick was pretty sure that a more stable job would've been a better foundation for a long future but he went with it because monsters would also damage his farming dreams in the long run. They formed a freelance party naught but slightly more than sensibly proportioned dreams. Fast track a few months and the party goes the way of a group of naive teenage rock band aspirees, they split up to try and find success in their own ways. Left with nothing much to do, Derrick gives monster hunting one last shot and accepts a bounty for a mysterious winged wolf, little knowing that it may turn out to be the worst decision of his life... Or the best one he's ever made. Who knows? Depends on how it goes, I suppose.
