Asuka Koizumi

As she slowly approached the two, Asuka continued to inhale and exhale, still trying to cool her head after the recent ordeal. She took her place next to the boy who's name she didn't know, her line of sight shifting towards him. Asuka lowered her stance by a few millimeters, still focused on the straw haired boy.

"Hey, my name is Taibushi by the way. I figured that may become pertinent information at some point," Taibushi muttered, his gaze now shifting towards her. Well, at least she had a name now. No need to have to go through the awkward process of using the words 'him' or 'the boy who's name she didn't know' anymore, and that raised her spirits a little.

"And I'll probably be needing yours as well."

The black-haired kunoichi nodded, smiling gently. Her eyes were now focused on her sensei, shining with some sort excitement in them. "Yes, of course. Please forgive me for not mentioning my name earlier. My name's Asuka Koizumi, Taibushi-san. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Returning his gaze to Mao, Taibushi leant in a bit closer, whispering his ideas to Asuka as quietly as he could. She decided to stoop down a little, bending her left knee slightly so she could hear the boy's tactics. Although she wasn't too conscious about her dastardly tall stature for the average fifteen-year-old girl, Asuka still felt a bit embarrassed by this notable characteristic. The height difference between Taibushi and herself wasn't too great, but it still made her feel a bit uncomfortable nevertheless.

Asuka listened carefully to Taibushi's plan, trying to memorise every single detail so she wouldn't miss anything important. After all, this boy seemed to be a bit more tactical and strategic than her, so it was best that she listened in on the his thoughts. Taking the fight into the forest seemed like a wise idea, even if Asuka had set off some of the traps in the wide clearing. It was obvious that the boy didn't want to risk anything out in the here, instead deciding to perform his own little tricks inside the thick barrier of trees.

"In the mean time however, we need to keep him busy here," Taibushi finished, his eyes flickering from Asuka to Mao continuously. The young Koizumi nodded, patting her mahogony sword sheath.

"Don't worry, Taibushi-san. Get to the forest as fast as you can and do what you need to do. I'll keep Mao-sensei at bay. As soon as you are ready, just-"

Asuka didn't even have any time to finish her sentence. Performing a series of swift hand movements, a large stream of water escaped Taibushi's mouth, splashing the dry earth and forming another short statured Taibushi. But, this wasn't any ordinary clone Asuka had come across before..

A water clone technique? I'm sure that's C-rank jutsu… Still, C-rank techniques do take some practise. Taibushi-san must have gone through quite a lot to have mastered a technique like that.

In the blink of an eye, the clone had already sprinted off into the forest, becoming a small dark spec as soon as it entered through the gate of thick trees. So Taibushi sent a clone into the forest to do the handiwork whilst he stayed and fought with Asuka. A clever strategy indeed.

In her head, the girl thought things were moving a bit too quickly. What was she supposed to do now? Slash at her teacher until the clone's task was completed? Or let the real Taibushi go first on the offensive? To be honest, the boy didn't seem as physically trained up in comparison to Asuka, so maybe letting him take the first strike wouldn't be too wise. Asuka took using one of her techniques into consideration, but with still a large amount of traps and bombs planted all over the place, the idea was immediately dropped. There was another technique she could use against Mao, but performing that jutsu would be pretty inconvenient. Her clan's fighting style was more centered towards weakening their opponent and pulling out the big guns once they were caught of guard. In the current state Mao was in, performing Crimson Spring Breeze wouldn't be all that useful. With his reflexes, she was sure he would be able to evade it some way or another. Letting go of her katana's hilt, Asuka relaxed her arms, leaving her injured arm dangling by her side.

It seems that the injury is worse than I had predicted… I can't fight with my sword in my current state. Before the pain subsides, it will just be my head and my legs doing the work for the time being. That clone needs as much time as it can to do whatever it needs to do. In the mean time, Taibushi and I are just going to have to keep Mao-sensei occupied.

"Taibushi-san," Asuka whispered, lowering herself down to his level. "If you can fling a few shurkien at Mao-sensei, then I might just be able to catch him off guard. In the state I'm in right now, I won't be able to do much with my sword, but I can fight with my chakra alone just as well. I probably won't be able to land a hit, but if he does happen to try and block my attack, see if you can swoop in behind him."

Staring back at Mao, Asuka focused some chakra into her feet, prepared to at least do some damage. Once Mao was weakened and his strength was watered down a little, Asuka and Taibushi could hopefully think of something to retrieve that single bell.

If what Mao-sensei wants is his pupils coming at him with an intent to kill, then that's exactly what we're going to give him!

Asuka Koizumi

Once her eyes came into focus, Asuka looked over at the scene in shock. She had been too immersed in her own problems to see what had happened after she had thrown all those shurkien, but now that she was properly observing the two, she noticed that the boy who's name she didn't know was totally fine, not a single scratch visible on his extremely pale skin. How did he do it? The shurkien and kunai were headed straight towards him during that moment, so how could've he reacted in such a short period of time?

I have no idea how that boy managed to deflect my omnidirectional attack, but at least he was able to. If a genjutsu was in fact casted upon him, then to believe he was able to dispel it and counter against my shuriken shower in such a short amount of time… Just how good is this boy's reflexes?

"Mao-Sensei, if you EVER do that to me again, regardless of now serious you are about us having the intent to kill you, I swear to you I will!"

Asuka watched in astonishment. Whatever type of illusion that boy who's name she didn't know saw, it was most likely a very bad one.

"EVEN IF I HAVE TO TEAR YOUR FUCKING THOAT OUT WITH MY GODDAMNED TEETH!!!!!!!!!" the boy roared in rage, tossing a small scroll up into the air. As soon as the fuma and normal shurkiens were produced, the boy who's name she didn't know threw them at Mao, his icy blue eyes darkening into a murky blue colour. Even from this far away, Asuka could sense the boy's lust for her sensei's blood. The boy released his shuriken at his opponent, flinging them at Mao with great force.

Extremely skillful… A talented bukijutsu user indeed.

Five seconds was all it took for Mao to deflect the blond boy's attacks. With one swift move, the taller man unravelled a scroll that held many weapons inside, hidden behind intricately drawn seals. Realising one of them in a puff of smoke, her teacher's fingers were covered in sharp metal claws, reminding Asuka of the razor talons of an eagle. Although she was quite far away, the sight of those sharp pieces of metal intimidated her a little. This man definitely not to be trifled with in the slightest. Biting her lip, her eyes widened at her teacher's incredibly swift movements.

Oh no… Just what does Mao-sensei plan on doing to… him?

"Mao-sensei lecture number two and shinobi rule twenty five: a shinobi must never show their tears."

Placing his hand on the pain stricken boy's head, Mao ruffled his student's light blonde hair as if they were the feathers of a pale coloured bird. Although Mao seemed to be showing some slight fatherly attributes towards the boy who's name she didn't know, Asuka could see and sense the intensity in the man's piercing gold eyes.

"All ninja experience pain in their life and the enemy will use that against you. You must never show your tears because you must never allow the enemy to see your weakness. You have to let your pain go and focus."

Asuka took a few steps forward, her right arm dangling at her side. The man was right. The pain of loneliness… Although it wasn't as extreme as what some other people might have felt in the past, Asuka had definitely felt it before. Even to this day, she missed her mother and father greatly, and just thinking about them in a situation like this saddened her greatly. No, she as going off track again. She had to focus. She had to be ready to fight. She had to be ready to face the trials of becoming a fully fledged shinobi. When everything was over, she could relax.

But not now. Defeating her opponent was the goal here.

Mao pulled himself away from the boy, letting the shuriken wounded around his fingers drop to the ground. He extended the distance between himself and the boy who's name she didn't know, changing his line of sight from the blond to Asuka herself.

"Now. I know both of you are tired, upset, and perhaps hurting just a little bit. That's alright, that's the way this is intended to go. We get hurt here, get angry here, cry our tears dry here because this is training. When the training's over, when the tears stop, when the pain subsides. . . that's when you'll be ready for a real mission."

Asuka stood still. Mao's little speech replayed over and over again in her head, his words sticking to her brain like glue. If there was one thing she was going to remember for the rest of her life, it would be this man's words.

"Again, but this time come as a team."

'Come as team'. How could she have missed that? To believe something so simple yet so important slipped her mind during times of need. Teamwork.

Asuka couldn't help but smile. Yes, she had made many mistakes in the past, but from those mistakes, she would learn valuable things from them. As for the mistakes and trials to come as a ninja… Well, Asuka was just going to have to wait and see. She muttered a few words under her breath to quiet for the men to hear, looking directly towards the boy who's name she didn't know.

"It's funny how the smallest and simplest of things can mean so much… With that in mind, there's no way I can fail here. No… There's no way we can fail here. It'll be over eventually, though. There's no time for tears on the battlefield."

Standing tall and proud, Asuka's face expression became solid and serious, clutching the hilt of her sword despite the pain surging through her arm.

After all…

I can always cry later.
