In this case it's a question of whether or not the government will allow the private company (TransCanada) to build. The local governments (primarily Nebraska) have already approved, and all required diligence has been done. It's really just the feds standing in the way.

News to me. I mean I've seen people bash on California and the South and such, but not really NY before. *shrugs*

I grew up in upstate New York, then joined the military and moved all over (but mostly in what we'd call the southwest, a little bit of midwest). 'Yankees' are a national whipping-boy, and most of it is deserved ('LOL Y U WARE COWBOI HAT? LOLNOOB' 'Well.... I'm a cattle rancher..........' 'UR STUPID!').

Lots of east-coast people in general, but especially northeast, have a certain opinion of farm folk. We don't keep it a secret, and they know what we think about them, and they rightly resent it.

Just for the record, all the law did was allow *others* to choose whether or not they wanted to discriminate based on religion. It wasn't actually a discriminatory bill. You can find the bill's exact text...... somewhere, I don't know, I don't have my link anymore. It was absolutely a 'religious freedom' bill, just one that would inevitably lead to discriminatory confrontations. Which I think of as good, because it encourages the assholes to kill off their own business by revealing how stupid they are.

If you throw some measure of 'duration of empire' into the mix I'd be surprised of Rome doesn't win. I know what you're thinking, 'China's pretty big dawg, and pretty old,' but their dynasties weren't remarkably long, and they typically didn't have need of conquest, as most people just paid them some tribute and that was it.

California is more free than New York, because California still geographically contains rednecks. You can't get a sunburn in the state of New York, thus, no rednecks, thus, the left gets to say and do pretty much whatever they want.
