Okavango Wildlife Preservation

The animals that we've known and loved since childhood are in danger. Many species of Africa's most famous wildlife are starting the make the endangered list, with only humans to blame. Can you imagine a world without stories of lions and elephants? These beautiful creatures are being hunted and systematically destroyed by poachers. These illegal hunters' methods have become so fierce and organized that reservations are having to protect themselves with near military-like forces.

Okavango sits on an open savanna in Botswana, Africa. It was opened back in the 80's as a wildlife reservation and sanctuary. Since then, their mission has stayed the same: protect South Africa's diverse fauna. They have run for many years off of government funds and donations, and now, they are opening their doors for a new program. Young zoologist majors from around the world are being invited to come for the summer and shadow experts and specialists of their field. The collage students are chosen by an essay and project contest. The top ten winners are flown to Okavango and put up for two whole months to study and experience the animals they have only seen at zoos and museums.

The intentions of this program is to teach the newer generations the importance of conservation. But while this sanctuary may seem like heaven, our young students may just be thrust into a warzone. Will they be able to fend off the money hungry poachers?

So the gist of this idea is Captain Planet meets vicious organized crime. There's big money in animal poaching, and the poachers are a borderline guerilla-esque crime syndicate with military weapons. The students are at the park to learn about different animals species and conservation tactics first hand, but they will also get up close and personal with some of the most vicious criminals in South Africa.

This RP will be player driven. It will be sandbox style for the most part, with events that will players can chose to take part in. Feel free to voice questions, comments, and concerns in this thread.

The rest of his shift crept by, and before long, Orren was clocking out. He hung up his apron and headed out the door, a cheerful chime announcing his departure. The young man headed up the block to the nearby grocery store. He needed to refill his meds, lest he wanted to repeat of the last time he let himself run out.

Funny enough, not many places seemed to carry this stuff. This pharmacy was the only one that kept it on hand. It would sure be unfortunate if something were to happen to it.

Orren headed over to the pharmacy counter and put in his refill request. While he waited, he walked around the store to pick up a few essentials: bread, eggs, canned beans. He checked out and went back to the pharmacy to get his pills.

"Mr. Orren Daily, 50mg Zeflexen. Is the information on the screen correct?"

Orren glanced over the info, his name, address, prescription, ect. "Uh, yes sir. Thanks." He took the little paper bag and swiped his debit card to make the copayment. Once it was all done and processed, he stuffed the baggie in with his groceries and went on his way.

Lucas

Name: Lucas (No known last name)
Age: Unknown
Gender: Male
Species: Not human, not angel, and not demon. The word for what Lucas is doesn't exist.

Occupation: Professional exorcist and cleanser

Personality: He's a bit of a strange little guy. Lucas is very peculiar about who he interacts with and how. He doesn't like crowds, being photographed, cameras, or being asked questions. Any of these things will have him become frustrated and he'll probably storm off in a huff. If irritated, he will quickly resort to lashing out physically to get his point across. Seeing as he can't yell, one might think that this is his alternative.

If one gets on his good side, he's typically a mild, friendly man. Once he decides he trusts someone, he doesn't seem as stand offish anymore. He will likely never overcome his social anxiety, however.

Appearance: Lucas can easily be described as a bean pole: tall and lanky. He's been told often that he's too thin and needs to gain weight. Lucas has a PEG tube that sticks out of his abdominal wall; it's basically a port straight to his stomach where liquid food and nutrition can be pumped. Due to the all liquid diet, he stays just above underweight.

He's pretty unassuming looking: hidden under oversized clothes with his face tucked into a scarf. He has a head of messy black hair, usually worn fairly short. He has a natural olive tone of his skin, his race unknown. His eyes tend to catch people's attention. Some say he has the eyes of a feral animal, dark and a bit wild. Others say they see the eyes of a sad hound dog. Either way, his eyes are dark brown, the color almost indistinguishable from his pupils.

Lucas's most predominant feature by far is his face. He sort of doesn't have one. While his forehead and eyes appear normal, Lucas's face below the bridge of his nose is malformed. His nose appears to be incomplete, like someone cut the fleshy end off of it. And he completely lacks a mouth. His chin is narrow and pointed, his features almost elfish in appearance. If not for the deformities of his face, Lucas might be considered handsome.

Powers:

Lucas has a very unique skill set. He has a 'gift'. Lucas can draw energy from surrounding sources, fire, sunlight, heat, electricity, and produce his own light. This light burns monsters that get too close to it, namely demons and most other foul creatures. Most non-humans are unable to touch his skin without being singed.

His gift of light is accompanied by an ability to defeat demons in a way that even the most experienced of priests have yet to figure out. When he comes into contact with the creatures, he seems to absorb them. If he is performing an exorcism, he draws the demon from the victim and into himself. This usually results in a short inner battle before the demon is either banished or completely eradicated. So far, Lucas himself has never been possessed. No one really knows what would happen if he was.

Weaknesses: Because of his deformity, Lucas is mute.

When tackling more powerful demons, there is a chance that they may escape, weakened, rather than be destroyed. After dealing with demons of high power, Lucas usually has to take time to recover.

Killing Lucas is an absolutely an option. It will set him back and be a considerable inconvenience, however, it won't be long before he comes back.

Biography:

Where Lucas came from isn't entirely clear. He showed up one day during a string of violent possessions at the hands of demons. He was the age he appears to be now, perhaps mid-twenties, and hasn't aged since.

It didn't take long for a local priest to befriend the man. He and an aquaintace of his, another trained exorcist, made a home for him. It was clear that Lucas was special from the get go, he had great powers in him. However, his fear of society and odd mannerisms made him stand out. He couldn't be left on his own.

Lucas has spent several years with his new caregiver, Mr. Isaac Partway. Partway has since left the church officially, making him and Lucas a couple of freehand excocists.

Supporting Characters:

Father Lars Petulengro : A catholic priest who works at Our Lady of Sorrows cathedral within the city. He is very young for a priest, only just 29. Father Petulengro remains secretive and mysterious to his fellow church goers. What exactly he does around the church is unknown. He doesn't give sermons, and he doesn't ever leave.

Isaac Partway: A former priest and a close friend to Lars. He was given the responsibility of keeping Lucas safe and out of trouble. This task isn't easy, seeing as their day to day job brings them to locking horns with demons on the regular.
